The Festival d'Avignon was founded by Jean Vilar in 1947.

Jean Vilar was invited to present his first great successful play - Murder in the Cathedral by T.S. Eliot in the Popes Palace. At the same moment and at the same place, an exhibition of contemporary paintings and sculptures was organised by Christian Zervos, an art critic and collector, and by René Char, the poet.

Vilar initially refused the invitation as for him the Cour d'Honneur of the Popes Palace was too vast and "shapeless" and he also lost the performance rights of the play.

However, he proposed three creations : Shakespeare's Richard II, one of the Bard's plays that was little known at the time in France; Paul Claudel's Tobie et Sara (Tobie and Sara), and Maurice Clavel's second play, La Terrasse de Midi (The Midday Terrace). The very first Festival d'Avignon in September 1947 set the scene as a showcase for unknown work and modern scripts.

There are four distinct stages in the evolution of the Festival d'Avignon.

No photoshop, or any computer tools were used to edit this image. Purely light and exposure techniques. This is a Royal Typewriter exposed over a modern MacBook Air.

It needs the two ends weaving in and blocking but my leaf evolution shawl is off the needles! This is the first shawl I've knitted, the first time I've knitted with such fine yarn and the second time I've followed a chart (I'm not really a knitter!) and I've learnt so much! I picked up my first stitches, did my first provisional cast on, it's the first time I've done anything other than a traditional 'K1, pass previous stitch over' cast off, the first time I've knitted into the front and back of a stitch, the first time I've done a 9 from 3 stitch and I've loved (almost) every minute! This may be my first shawl but it won't be my last!

It's on my FAL Q2 list but I'm not calling it a finish until it's blocked.

This is how this shot should have been processed in the first place. I'm not even sure how I got the craptastic product that I procured first of this image, but this is a preferred version. **Original Edit in Comments*

Re-visited on a day home from work (half day, I'm going into work in another hour, sinus' couldn't handle the dust for a full day though).

Interestingly, at some point, Heineken changed from being a lager to a Pilsener...

Another sample spread.

If you happen to read the body copy, it's all a bunch of BS.

Not really designing, yet... just throwing stuff in.

PS, same deal with the different shades of blue, NO IDEA WHY.

Lancer Evolution X will feature a newly designed 4B11T 2.0L turbocharged, all-aluminum Straight-4 engine. Power and torque depend on the market (U.S.A. version: 295 hp and 300 lb-ft, Japanese version: 280 hp and 310 lb-ft, UK version: 276bhp at 6500rpm, 311lb ft at 3500rpm [11]).

The car has also a new full-time four-wheel drive system named S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control), an advanced version of Mitsubishi's AWC system used in previous generations.[12]. The S-AWC uses torque vectoring technology to send different amount of torque to any wheel at any given time.

It also features Mitsubishi's new sequential semi-automatic six speed Twin Clutch SST twin-clutch transmission with steering-mounted magnesium alloy shift paddles. A 5-speed manual gearbox will also be available. Mitsubishi claims that the 5 speed manual transmission has always been preferred in rallying and should be very refined, resulting in a more satisfying drive.[13] New Lancer Evolution will incorporate Mitsubishi's next generation RISE safety body.

I've always wondered about those charts of 'the eveloution of mankind' whether the guy in front was just being stalked by a bunch of hairy weirdos.
