This beach has it all. Dark sand and cliffs, ripply waves and large algae. Rain, sunshine and wind. A small island in front of it (not visible in the picture) and even a little cave (center of image). It is located in southern Chile.

So this is my undeniably adorable cousin Charlie, taken this summer (literally only the third day I had my camera) and not discovered until now. It's not perfect focus, but I love the uneven framing and the light and the look of pure delight on his face. Sometimes it's Charlie who reminds me that everything not only will be alright, but is alright. He's one of those kids who is so happy and excited about life, that you can't help but feel the same way when he's around.
No editing, this picture didn't need fooling around with.
Cadets from the University of Colorado–Colorado Springs (UCCS) compete in the water obstacle event during the 5th Brigade Army ROTC Ranger Challenge, Camp Gruber, Okla., Nov. 7, 2021. Teams were tasked with deploying a Zodiac boat, navigating their watercraft across a small lake with all of their gear, and successfully carrying everything back to the starting point after landing on the east shore. I took this one during a little trekking excursion in Bardonecchia (distant few hours from Turin). We were just walking on our path when that big mountain appeared from behind the clouds. We stopped. We took a photo.
After the story behind the shot, some technicals detail for who cares about that :

Modified with Aperture 3 on Mac: a little bit of Contrast added, saturation and vignetting added.

11. From the darkness, springs light. Above the Palace Theater in Gary Indiana are several floors of what were once apartment buildings and small businesses. Today, like much of Gary, they’re abandoned, forgotten and discarded. Walking aimlessly through walls of former apartments with only a flashlight I spotted an area with the oddity of natural light. When I came upon this incredible hallway, I was filled with a sensation of relief. Rooms with their doors removed stream in natural light in an otherwise terrifying dark space. Returning to natural light after nearly an hour in cold, wet and desolate darkness was mentally refreshing that it literally moved me. While it was a fun place to shoot, it was a tough shoot and one that wasn't without its own challenges and fears. Gary is a fun place to go with a group but it’s a dark, dangerous and ominous place to be when alone.
