« This is love, she thought, isn’t it? When you notice someone’s absence and hate that absence more than anything? More, even, than you love his presence? Each knew of how she had waited for the Kolker by the window every day, how she became acquainted with its surface, learned where it had melted slightly, where it was slightly discolored, where it was opaque. She felt its tiny wrinkles and bubbles. Like a blind woman learning language, she moved her fingers over the window, and like a blind woman learning language, she felt liberated. The frame of the window was the walls of the prison that set her free. She loved what it felt like to wait for the Kolker, to be entirely dependent on him for her happiness, to be, as ridiculous as she had always thought it sounded, someone’s wife. She loved her new vocabulary of simply loving something more than she loved her love for that thing, and the vulnerability that went along with living in the primary world » Jonathan Safran Foer / Everything is illuminated
Well i loved my aunt - but she died
and my uncle lou - then he died
I'm searching for something which can't be found - but i'm hoping
i still dream of dad - though he died

“What is life if not the shadow of a fleeting dream?”
― Umberto Eco, Baudolino
We had a Spring snowfall this morning and I didn't want to miss capturing these beautiful full blossoms covered with snow on my neighbor's tree. This is not my usual style, it is much softer and more pastel than I typically go but I thought the scene lent itself to this look. I can appreciate the beauty of the snow today for I know it will soon be gone.
Have a fantastic Friday!
I assume this Monarch Butterfly was taking a drink from the dew on this yellow rose. A misty morning in the Rose Garden at the Huntington Library had gven way to sunshine !!

~NEW~ Bento head - Daniel
You're a falling star, you're the get away car.
You're the line in the sand when I go too far.
You're the swimming pool, on an August day.
And you're the perfect thing to say.
And you play it coy but it's kinda cute.
Ah, when you smile at me you know exactly what you do.
Baby don't pretend that you don't know it's true.
'cause you can see it when I look at you.
And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, you make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.
The Minolta MD Rokkor 50mm f/1.7 paired with the Olympus OM-D EM-5 is quite a thing.

Hand held. Anaheim Hills / Corona fire just before dawn. Got a late start, just started to climb the hill and didn't have time to set up the tripod before the color disappeared. I did manage to get back to the HDR filter as opposed to shooting last eveing all in "cross filter" which basically ruined everything. The more I shoot the more mistakes I make, it seems.
Matthew Morgan : Well, you don't love life itself. You love, uh, places, animals, people, memories, food, literature, music. And sometimes you meet someone... who requires all the love you have to give. And if you lose that someone, you think everything else is gonna stop too. But everything else just keeps on going. Giraudoux said, you can miss a single being, even though you are surrounded by countless others. Those people are like... like extras. They cloud your vision, they're a meaningless crowd. They... They're an unwelcome distraction. So you seek oblivion in solitude. But solitude only makes you wither.

After thousands of birds had passed over head and the tide had come in I looked out to sea and it was so quiet and still and I saw this lone osytercatchers feather floating on this dead calm sea,the madness had stopped and peace had returned, I hope you like it
Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
and the years approach when you will say,
"I find no pleasure in them"-
before the sun and the light
and the moon and the stars grow dark,
and the clouds return after the rain;
when the keepers of the house tremble,
and the strong men stoop,
when the grinders cease because they are few,
and those looking through the windows grow dim;
when the doors to the street are closed
and the sound of grinding fades;
when men rise up at the sound of birds,
but all their songs grow faint;
when men are afraid of heights
and of dangers in the streets;
when the almond tree blossoms
and the grasshopper drags himself along
and desire no longer is stirred.
Then man goes to his eternal home
and mourners go about the streets.
Remember him—before the silver cord is severed,
or the golden bowl is broken;
before the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
or the wheel broken at the well,
and the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
"Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Guru
"Everything is meaningless!"

while walking around at longwood, this colorful one caught my eye because it looks like while the stamens are all playing around in a circle, one of them stops and smiles at the camera. what do you think?
speaking of which, while thinking a lot about my style and how i can improve my photography this year, i came across this very interesting article by darwin wiggett that talks about style and vision development. after reading this article, i think i'm gonna continue on my path of shooting anything and everything (instead of just sticking to one subject, like landscapes) to further improve my skills and see where i go this year. :)
