Visit to Northlandz in January of 2010. An astonishingly large HO model railroad layout, recommended for train enthusiasts. It occupies a building the size of a large 3-story warehouse.
Pros:
+ Quirky - some of the scenes are pretty amusing
+ Detailed - lots of fine work. You can spend a long time in one place, just looking at the subtleties
+ Huge - Very extensive dioramas
+ No that does not quite do it, how about "Gargantuan?"
+ No, still not right. I think this: "You're lying. It cant be that big." - No, it is. Jaw-dropping. That link shows only part of one of maybe a dozen rooms. Plan on 90 minutes if you jog through, three hours if you take your time and enjoy it.
+ Organ music - The builder and owner, Bruce Zaccagnino, is a skilled organist and plays for visitors (I think every day) in a little theater in the middle of the building.
Cons:
- Dust - Lots of it. I'm sure it's a nightmare to clean, but it needs it. At HO scale, it's up to the inhabitants' ankles.
- Disrepair - Plaster landscape cracking in places. Little figures fallen over. Not too often, but enough to jar you from your reverie.
- Few trains! - When we visited most rooms were largely silent; I guess it made the trains more exciting when they did come through, but they did so rarely, and often only a handful of cars.
- Somewhat inflexible - you have one shot at moving through, then you need to buy another ticket if you want to revisit a scene. Not a big deal... except there's only one bathroom inside at the halfway point. Remember, it's HUGE. Know your kids' tolerances if you go.
All in all if you like railroads (or have kids that do) you should probably see it at least once.

Inspired by the fact that I love digging around in junkyards, airplane graveyards, abandoned buildings and other places I shouldn't be. And Ming & FS is raw, dirty New York hip-hop/drum & bass, so the two compliment each other well.

Lightning and winds kill large saguaros and droughts weaken and kill all ages. The saguaro is vulnerable at every stage of its life. The declne in recent years have been thought to be caused by freezing, which occurs in the northern and eastern range of the Sonoran Desert, where cold winter temperatures occur most often.
Every year we have a pre Christmas gathering so we can get all the family together for the day. On the real Christmas Day some of our family live on the mainland and rest have see other relations to visit so it gets all to hectic. This way we get two Christmas Days so it's double the fun. Happy Christmas everybody and a great New Year.

I tried to use Lilypond to notate random pitches. Here, they were interpreted as relative pitches. Oops! They just keep going up and up!
So last week i went to longboat key in florida. Sara and i go every year to visit her family who all come down for about a week. This year, i left my bag on the plane in Tampa. This bag contained my camera (d90) with my 18-200mm nikkor lens and a host of other equipment including my wallet. I realized i left my bag about an hour after the flight, but they plane had already left tampa. Anyway, i spent the whole week feeling pretty sick to my stomach as sara navigated the NWA phone system to try to track it down. I was pretty sure the bag was gone for good, when out of nowhere it showed up in Detroit. Anyway, i got the bag back today on my birthday no less, everything in tact. So, no pics from Florida but at least it all turned out okay.

Every Night the Trees Disappear: Werner Herzog and the Making of Heart of Glass (Chicago Review Press, May 2012) is Alan Greenberg’s firsthand account of his experience observing and working with Werner Herzog for the first time . In Heart of Glass, Herzog exercised control over his actors in an absolutely unique way: by hypnotizing them before shooting every scene. The result was one of the most haunting movies ever made. In tapping into the subconscious of his actors and encouraging them to ad-lib while filming, Herzog conducted the perfect blend of mystery, disarray and impending madness that set the unnerving tone for the film. Every year Nehru Institutions of Information Technology and Management organize a National Level Inter Collegiate Cultural Meet - ‘Confluenze’. The meet comprises of technical and cultural events where the under graduate students can showcase their talents and potentials. This year Confluenze 2022 was organized on 13th (Friday) of May 2022.
The event commenced with a prayer song by NIITM students Ms. Stenia Joy (I MBA) and Ms.Indulakshmi (I MCA).
Dr. K Ravi Kumar, Principal welcomed the gathering with his thoughtful words. All the distinguished guests on the stage performed lighting of kuthuvilaku and invoked the programme. Dr. P Krishna Kumar, CEO and Secretary of Nehru Group of Institutions presided over the function and gave away the presidential address. The Chief Guest for Confluenze 2022 cultural fest is Mrs. B. Malarvizhi, founder Kaizen Academy. She is a You Tuber with one million subscribers for her channel. Ms.B.Malarvizhi is popularly rated and featured in YouTube Spotlight, Indian Express, Brut India and Logical Indian. Ms.Malarvizhi also featured on the front page of reputed newspapers like Economic Times, Times of India, Financial Express, Malayala Manorama, Vijaya Karnataka and Dhinathandhi.
The Special Guest for Confluenze 2022 is Mr.Vignesh Antony Anchor, Actor, Comedian, Mimicry artist & Vijay TV KPY9 Finalist. The Special Guest gave valuable and interesting sparkling inputs for the participants to groom in life with a proper attitude is youngster’s responsibility. The sparkling crowd got electrified and added value to all the stage events of Confluenze 2022.
NIITM Newsletter ‘Shristi’ was released on the stage by the CEO and Secretary, Nehru Group of Institutions and the first copy was received by Dr.K.Ravi Kumar.
Welcome dance was performed by NIITM students, followed by on stage events - Solo Dance, Solo Song, Group Dance and Fashion Show and Off stage events like MIME, Facial Painting, Debugging, Web designing were conducted simultaneously. External Judges of the individual events evaluated the performances of the participants. The adjudged winners of each event have been declared by the programme convenor Mr.T.Thiyagarajan, at the end of the progrm. Around 1000 students registered from over 58 colleges. Winners were awarded with cash prizes and all the participants of Confluenze 2022 were given with participant certificates. Srinivasa Arts and Science College registered and participated in all the events, topped up the score board with highest points took away the overall shield trophy of Confluenze 2022 programme.
Head of the Department of Management Studies Dr M. Sathis Kumar delivered the vote of thanks and concluded the events by expressing the gratitude for the grand success of Confluenze 2022.
The participants expressed their feedbacks by appreciating the organizers and students coordination for the success of the programme. The participants and the faculty members accompanied thanked for the hearty hospitality and food provided to them.

Every day, I walk out to my front yard and peer into the plants in search of the little treefrogs that sit on the stems of our flowers. I try and take as many pictures as I can with different compositions - this being one of my favorites. The frogs are always doing their thing and never seem to mind the camera!
Our Swain Destinations party met the fascinating Huli Wigmen at a small village in the Southern Highlands near Tari. The Huli people, one of the largest indigenous groups in PNG, have lived in this region for more than 1,000 years, and continue to practice many of their ancestral cultural traditions. Huli culture has long been based on “land, pigs and women,” for which men have fought for centuries. During combat, men cover their bodies in colorful clay pigment and headdresses made from human hair, bird of paradise feathers and flowers. Fortunately, we were guests at a special ceremonial event known as a singsing, and not an actual skirmish. The ceremony was quite intimidating and every bit as awe-inspiring as it looks here. The Tari region is not visited by travelers nearly as frequently as other parts of PNG, which is a shame – the cultural highlights here are incredible.

Approved for construction in 1890 by the Jefferson County Commissioners, the Romanesque style courthouse was designed by Seattle architect W. A. Ritchie, and built at an estimated cost of $150,000.00. The Jefferson County Courthouse Clock Tower was installed in November 1892. The original plans called for a tower 140 feet tall, but for some unknown reason the tower measures only 124 feet, 4 inches. The bell rings out every hour of the day.

Every morning before the Powell / Market Cable Car reaches Powell and Jackson Street turn, maintenance crew clean the track of dirt and debris that has fallen below the rails surface.
Every night a cannon shoot rumbles at 9pm so called "El Cañonazo de las 9", a custom, kept from colonial times, signaling the closure of the city wall doors. Havana, Cuba.
Every year Alex Thien sets up a stall and sketches people during the convention. I've been back every year, as it's fun to see his interpretation of me, and to watch his drawing style over the years.
