As the daylight fades, the figures look more and more ghostly and ethereal, soft light illuminating the stories they bear.

Redwoods in the rain, Redwood National Park, California.
Back in November of 2006, I convinced a couple of friends to join me on a quick trip to Redwood National Park, some 8.5 hrs from the Bay area. We stayed at the youth hostel in the national park. We were there for one sunny day and one rainy day...we were lucky to have the sunny day!
As much as the rain is inconvenient for us tourists, I must confess I fell in love with the redwoods in the rain. The whole place is ethereal, soft and lush. It's like being in a dream. The forest smells of rain and damp mud...it smells of life. The tall redwoods reaching beyond the rain and mist for a taste of the sun...And the pretty ferns. It was as if I was in a dreamscape!

One of my Flickr acquaintances, BeeSparkle, uploaded this as a sort of challenge for members of Florabella textures to play with. I'm afraid I didn't do it justice, but here's what I did-Ethereal Soft Light at 34% and Tea Stained Overlay at Overlay 33%, after taking the saturation down. I also cropped slightly-there are so many ways to do it and I haven't had as much time to play as I'd like! Thanks to BeeSparkle for the use of the image. I have so much to learn.....

2018-09-07 ZIPPORAH CAMILLE THOMPSON Black Cloud Prism whitespace Gallery Atlanta
Zipporah Camille Thompson’s first solo exhibition opens on Friday, September 7 from 7 to 10 pm at whitespace gallery. The exhibit explores collective ancestral forces tethered to histories and memories through sculpture, two-dimensional and installation art to reveal the interconnectedness of self to the cosmic whole.
Thompson’s intuitive work unites tension and density by combining seemingly disparate materials and images into a unified whole. The work carefully reveals itself through landscape, ritual, and imagery to present intersections between place and eco-ethno-socio-meterologies and survey ethereal softness and the evolving tension and density of various collections of matter and particles.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Zipporah Camille Thompson is a visual artist and sculptor based in Atlanta, Georgia. Thompson explores ritual and alchemical transformations through the unknown and through universals, including death, catastrophe, chaos, and the cosmos. Metamorphosed, shapeshifters reflect various archaeological, psychological, and ecological perspectives, as well as a personal investigation of self and identity.
She received her MFA from the University of Georgia and her BFA from the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Her work has been featured in a number of print and online publications. She has shown at the Zuckerman Museum of Art, Trestle Gallery in Brooklyn, Rogue Space in Chelsea, the Georgia Museum of Art, and whitespace gallery in Atlanta, GA, as well as a host of other venues and spaces. These were taken in the chapel at Furman University. It was a Sunday afternoon and the place was deserted -- cool, dark and quiet. I've played with these two images quite a bit, but I'm having a hard time capturing the depth of color that was present at the time; perhaps it was too dark inside at the time. The buttery yellow and cream walls, the warm wood of the ceiling and the exposed red beams -- were all set off beautifully by this ethereal soft blue light coming in the square windows at the top of the walls. I'll keep playing with them -- maybe I'll be able to bring it out.
