When I climbed Arthur's Seat, it snowed and the sky was cloudy and dark. Occasionally, the snow stopped. This was the one time, when even the sun broke through in the distance. As foxglove pointed out, this landscape is the coast of Lothian around North Berwick and the mountain is called The Law. But it somehow looked like a magical island on the horizon.

An oldie from my archives. Taken at Dunraven Bay, Southerndown and edited to give a soft hopefully ethereal feel!

I always love Italian towns and cities at night or early morning well before sunrise it is one my favorite things to shoot, the people have withdrawn for the night and everything is blanketed in an ethereal soft glow giving the mundane a different character, pictured here is sleeping San Fele. San Fele is not overly touristed yet and typically only see’s Italian nature lovers frequenting the town and as such finding accommodations should be done through B&B sites the towns population has been dwindling since 1850 and only 3800 currently live in the municipality.

After fall of the Roman empire North and Central Italy was overrun by Normans, Saxons and Lombard’s with only the South in the hands of the Byzantine’s the Empire in the East, to keep the southern ambitions in check Otto the Holy Roman Emperor of the day began construction of a fortress here in 969AD. The fortress besides blocking the Byzantine advance protected the southern trade route through the Appenine Mountains called the Crocelle Pass and was the West/East pilgrim & crusader trail between Salerno and Bari. San Fele really became a boom town when the inhabitants of the city of Vitalba (of which the fertile valley where the town ply’s its agriculture trade is now named) suffered a large malaria outbreak prompting them to abandon their town to find higher and drier ground to live on.

Living in a volcanic area does not make for the most stable of geological situations, the town has been plagued by not just earthquakes but land slides and even underground flooding of the homes over the centuries with the most recent calamity a major earthquake in the 1980’s. The landslides may have been brough on by the towns people themselves through the deforestation of the area, the region was once covered by thick forests of maple, oak ,beech and mountain pines, a national park now protects all that is left of the ancient forest a small corner of the commune.

I took this on Sept 22, 2018 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 Lens at 48mm 25s f`4.2 ISO 100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , and DXO

Because I was a Gardener before I ever became a Photographer, I usually use the Scientific names of plants instead of the common names. 0 degrees here this morning and the plants are starting to show signs of being rather cold - poor things. This was taken in another garden of mine years ago.

It was getting close to sunset so most of the visitors were leaving but there were still people coming and going. This next shot is a Panoramic image of 5 vertical shots stitched together in Lightroom. Each one 6 minutes in length, so any visitors that did come did not show up in the shot. The exception was a couple that sat there the entire time this was being created. I could have cloned them out but I left them in for their persistence, which means they sat there relatively still for 30 minutes. At six minutes the spray from the waterfall becomes noticeable as a sort of glow in the top frame, which is cool. I was only concerned with sharpness in the foreground, so this also helped to enhance the ethereal softness of the falls and the surrounding area, no need to worry about freezing the trees.

After a night climb and several hours of waiting in darkness, I witnessed this magical moment when the sun began to caress the volcanic landscape of Mount Bromo. What I sought to capture wasn't just a sunrise, but that precise moment of transition when night gives way to day in one of the world's most spectacular natural settings.

The sea of clouds enveloping the Tengger caldera was particularly dense that morning, creating this surreal impression that the volcanoes were floating on a celestial ocean. I deliberately chose a panoramic format to embrace the full magnitude of this majestic landscape - from Mount Batok in the foreground to the proud Mount Semeru rising prominently in the background.

What fascinates me about this place is the duality between the telluric power of the volcanoes and the ethereal softness of the clouds, between the immutable and the ephemeral. The warm hues of the nascent sun contrasting with the deep blue of the sky create this particular palette that exists for only a few minutes each day. This image represents for me the very essence of travel: those fleeting moments of pure beauty that reward effort and waiting, and that remain etched in our memory long after our return.

This is a type of shot I've been after for a while. I finally was able to make it out to an area at the right time to catch this awesome, early fog over the lake. The fog is perfect for isolating the trees from the background and giving the photo an ethereal, soft, and minimal feel.

Hoje apetecem-me flores.

Assim, levemente etéreas, suaves, delicadas, com aroma de Verão que quer chegar e Sol quente no rosto.

Porque hoje... apetecem-me flores.

Today I feel like flowers

Light and almost ethereal, soft and delicate, tasting like Summer wants to knock at your door and warm sun on your face.

Because today... I feel like flowers

I've been a bit out, but I'll try to visit you soon :)

Daybreak brought fog and mist to our shores early on this weekend morning. It made for an incredibly ethereal and beautiful sunrise walk along the Hunter River.

There were infinite moments in time that would have been perfect for Turner and his easel. Indulging his increasing fascination with natural and atmospheric elements in his later years.

A rare landscape from me. This is a genre I am not comfortable with at all so I have made an effort to try to improve!

This weekend gone I was in the need of photographing something different and whilst still getting outside for some much needed air.

So I decided to photograph some Wild Flowers located in the margins around my local park.

A couple of mins walk later I was on my hands and knees talking to myself with a bunch of camera equipment, tripods and filming gear, much to the bemusement of the locals.

You can see how I went about getting the image above and also several more from that day in this Youtube video here >

I hope you enjoy the images produced and it inspires you to think and visit local, look for the smaller everyday details in your local landscapes, parks and communities and you might be very surprised at what you can find to photograph.

A magic morning mood from the Quiraing on Isle of Skye! This was the fifth attempt to shoot at this fascinating location and when we finally got some light I was all over the place trying to make sure I got as many compositions as possible during this short period of good conditions😅 Hope you like it!

Last picture in the sequence of shots from Wake Valley Pond in Epping Forest. The light was just incredible that morning, ethereal, soft and calm. I framed a number of shots and (at least to me) each one has its own charm.

Honestly, I can't even with some of these pictures. What a privilege to be in the right place at the right time.

Got plenty of time for that eh?

Another 'lockdown' project in my garage. I make do with what I've got.

Firstly, thanks all for good wishes... Always very much appreciated... Well at least it's Friday at last... Can't beat Fridays... :)

So this shot was one of a few that I took trying to make use of some ND filters... Not sure which shot I liked best, but you can see an alternative version over on my blog... Thanks again all... I'll be trying to catch up somewhat with you all tonight... :)

One of the country's newest National Parks has something going for it that no other place on this planet can lay a claim on - the largest gypsum sand basin. And that lends this place a surrealism like no other. While most visitors only spend the daylight hours here, the time for photography in this place when the sun crests below the San Andres mountains, and the predawn hours when everything lays still.

At sunset, in the shadow of the mountains, the white sands take on an unnatural blue hue, which, combined with strong winds at dusk, lend an ethereal soft glow to the undulating striations on the dunes. And on those rare occasions, all these happen with a sky lighting up for sunset, like in this scene above.

This park holds within it many such unique photographic opportunities, and I really do hope I can get back there, if only to spend one more night at this amazing National Park
