Steel etching plate, 17.5 cm x 8.5 cm.

My 8 year old daughter did this ink etching in art class today. She scratched the design with a nail and then inked it and stamped her paper.

I thought it was great!

The Nice, The Bad and laser engraving toronto

Laser etching produces a visible etching or depression into the material. Laser etching replaces traditional process like mechanical press or pin scribing. Laser etching can be done with either a Co2 or YAG laser on virtually any material surface and to any depth from very light etching to very deep etching For example, laser etching is used to engrave serial numbers into metal gun frames. Generally speaking with laser etching the material being laser etched is vaporized at the laser etching point due to the typically high power densities of the laser beam at the point of laser etching

Laser etching and laser marking generally do not produce any color changes and create a colorless impression. There are exceptions as certain plastics will sometimes react to and change color under either Co2 or YAG laser light. Also, in some cases, additives can be incorporate into the materials being laser marked or laser etched in order to produce a color change. Another exception occurs when the wavelength of either the Co2 or YAG laser is changed from those typically used in laser etching and laser marking. This can produce a color change after laser etching on some materials.

Laser annealing is another popular form of laser marking. This type of laser marking is generally undertaken with a YAG laser on metal surfaces using lower power, high frequency and slow writing speeds to produce heat on the surface of the product. Laser annealing can be used to replace electro chemical etching and ink marking as the laser annealing process creates a black mark with no etching Care must be used, as the heat generated can cause iron in some metals to be pulled to the surface, and rust can result if the parts are subjected to sterilization after laser annealing.

Moreover, you will find that laser engraving has been very much existed since in the early sixties. Another name of this particular process is laser etching. For this particular process, you will need no masks or chemicals unlike the conventional etching. You will find that the process will be really simpler and easy using the laser. If you look at the overall history, the laser engraving supplies were first used in around the 1960's. At that time, the laser was expected to be able to engrave at the least diamonds and types of metals. five.li/s

3” x 4” copper plate soft ground etching proofs on Graphic Chemical's 150 lb. cotton rag house paper and their Bone Black ink. The proof on the left was final wiped with newspaper, the one on the right was hand-wiped.

Please excuse the scanner lines that in the right photo are particularly bad.

After the first proof I noticed the ghost image circled above and thought it was something I had done during the wipe. But it appeared again on the second proof so I moved the plate slightly on the bed and got the result seen above on the right, the same ghost in a different place. I then examined my felts carefully and found a matching depression in the catcher and cushion and then also in the woven pusher on the cylinder. This ghost hadn’t appeared in any other proofs up to this point and it pretty much matches the size of the coil in the noose. I did in fact run the plate through the press at right angles to the direction I pulled the proofs, which explains the orientation. So my conclusion is that I should have used more padding and perhaps slightly less pressure when running the grounded plate through the press.

Another lesson learned.

Using the wonderful- and technically fascinating piece by Marc Chagall to bring up the subject of etching to Virginia.

Her facility with the medium of scratchboard brings this up.

She would do it in a class, though. Otherwise it is much too big a 'kit' to do it in the studio. It requires all kinds of gear, including a press.

Prehistoric rock etchings.....dates back to 6000 BC......one can spot human figures..........men having raised hair (Tribal chief) .He holds an angular object in his right hand and seems to be wearing a tight garment that reveals an hour-glass torso. Another man next to him has a square-shaped head and spiral belly. Some of the figures are wearing masks and heavy garments. The figure of a woman is easily recognizable
