Distant view of medieval Warkworth castle.
Warkworth is small village a few miles up the Coquet River from Amble.
The first castle on this site was probably built in the 12th century by Prince Henry of Scotland. It passed to the Percy family in the 13th century, and they strengthened and modified the castle repeatedly. The husband of the last Percy heiress, took the name Percy for himself and created the Dukes of Northumberland title in the 17th century. The Dukes created most of the stone fortress that we see today. In 1984 the castle was given to English Heritage, who now manage and maintain the building. It is a popular tourist destination.
Buses Excetera S21 (S21 ETC, ex-RL51 CXD, S21 ETC, RL51 CXD) unloads at Woking station with todays's 1233 ex-Chobham 73.
As can be seen, it has now returned to its cherished S21 ETC plates - it was still RL51 CXD yesterday!
What's going on?!
High Street, Woking, Surrey.
