The birdie population in SoCal is just exploding everywhere. It was another May Gray day at the pond today, but just delightful. There were lots of scurrying little shorebirds, turf interactions, etc. not to mention some mating amongst friends. Here an American Avocet with one of her chicks. Check it large!

Tagine is a slow-simmered stew of northwestern Africa traditionally cooked in a covered earthenware pot. The pot is commonly called a Tagine, too.

Crazy Tuesday: #Water

A funny note! After taking pictures of puddles near my apartment and getting wet (it's finally raining today); I didn't like the pictures I took. Then I thought about some water drops on some paper, mirror, plastic, etc inside my house. I tried several times and it seems my mind wasn't quite awake yet. I put some water drops with a spray bottle on some iridescent paper and click. But I didn't like them either. Nah! I wiped them off with my hand and these drops remained diagonally and well...cute... here they are. 😊

I'm fortunate (for a change!) that this Green Heron has been hanging around a small creek about 3kms from my home. So i have had some opportunities to get some shots, and even to get him to pose for this more formal portrait!

Unlike european cuckoos (common cuckoos etc.), the guira cuckoo does not practice brood parasitism: it does not lay its eggs in the nest of other individuals.

Contrairement au coucous d'Europe (coucou gris...), le guira cantara ne pratique pas de parasitisme de ponte : il ne pond pas ses oeufs dans le nid d'autres individus.
