Haus Esters is one of two modernist villas in Krefeld, Germany, designed by renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for two local silk industrialists, Josef Esters and Hermann Lange, between 1928 and 1930. The two houses, Haus Esters and the neighboring Haus Lange, are significant examples of the International Style and are celebrated for their clean, geometric lines and a design philosophy that integrates the building with its natural surroundings. While appearing rather closed and compact from the street, the villas open up dramatically on the garden side with large windows and terraces, creating a seamless connection between the interior and the meticulously planned gardens, which were also designed by Mies van der Rohe. The use of dark red brick, though not load-bearing, gives the buildings a strong, monolithic character.

Today, Haus Esters is part of the Kunstmuseen Krefeld (Krefeld Art Museums), serving as a venue for temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. It was acquired by the city in the 1970s and opened to the public as an exhibition space in 1981. Along with Haus Lange, it has gained international recognition as a site where architecture and art engage in a unique dialogue. The museum's exhibitions often feature site-specific works that respond to the architectural history and design of the house itself. The preserved villas and their gardens are considered a jewel of classical modernism and a testament to Mies van der Rohe's architectural vision.

The Ester Cinema was one of the first film theatres in the heart of Tel Aviv, Israel. The cinema was opened in 1930 as the Dizengoff Square Cinema. In 1931 it was named the Esther Cinema. It is designed in the German school of architectural style known as Bauhaus that was common from 1919 to 1933. This style has its principles, based on functionalisn and development of existing skills.

Since closing, the building has been recently restored and renovated to become an elegant and unique 82 room hotel, known as the Hotel Cinema. Care has been taken to preserve the characteristic exterior and the beautiful original starcase and chandeliers. On display are the original projectors, movie posters, theatre chairs and classic movies are screened in the lobby, where popcorn is served!

Ester, the little girl whose father was pastor at KCMC church. She had one lovely dress she wore all week, every week, always looking like a flower girl at a muddy wedding.
