The "Hafenmarkt" is the oldest exisitng row of half-timbered houses in Germany. All structures were built between 1328 and 1331.

This very old buidling in the town of Esslingen was used since 1819 as a synagogue, then 1938 it was defiled by Nazis, now since 2012 it is used again a a synagogue of the Jewish community in Esslingen.
Esslingen: Dieses noch ältere Gebäude wurde seit 1819 zur Synagoge umgebaut und genutzt bis zur Schändung im Jahre 1938, seit 2012 kann die Synagoge wieder von der Jüdischen Gemeinde genutzt werden.

The Kielmeyer House used to be home to the wine presses of the important St. Catherine’s Hospital, located in today’s market square up to 1811.
On the right:
Also a Baroque building, the New City Hall, used to be the city residence of the influential Palm family. It has been the lord mayor’s house since 1841.
Not only is the market square, a good place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables twice a week, this is a place for celebration – the Onion Festival, city fair, and the Christmas fair attract droves of visitors from far and wide every year.
Ein historisches Wasserrad wird tatsächlich demonstrativ zur Stromerzeugung eingesetzt. Zwei weitere Schaufelräder sind nicht in Betrieb. Zu besichtigen unterhalb der Brückenhäuser.
