When you take away an essential part of a flower - its color - you get the other visual parts that are essential to it - its shape and its texture.
This picture belongs to a new mini series that can be found on my blog Forget the Camera.

Major James Sanford Logan.
US First Army Infantry Division.
James Sanford Logan was born on 24th February 1920 in Alton, Illinois, USA. He graduated from Niagara University, New York, and began his service in June 1942 aged 22. His education saw him commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and, after completing a motor maintenance course at Fort Benning, he joined 701st Ordnance Light Maintenance Company, attached to the Ordnance Department of the US First Army Infantry Division.
James spent a brief period in England before the First Infantry Division were deployed to North Africa in November 1942. Between April and August 1943 he served in Tunisia and Sicily and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in the North African field of operations.
The First Army Infantry Division returned to England to train and prepare for D-Day. On 6th June 1944 James Logan led the first Ordnance unit on to the now notorious Omaha sector of the northern beaches and was essential in supplying the fight.
James was involved in campaigns across Northern France, in the Rhineland and Ardennes as the First Infantry pushed into occupied Europe. He was promoted to Major and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Discharged from the regular army in May 1946, James remained in reserve until August 1959. During the time spent in England with the First Army Infantry Division James met and got engaged to Kathleen Parry Smith from Worsbrough, Yorkshire.
On his return to England, James married Kathleen on the 14th May 1945 at Worsbrough. Kathleen became pregnant but James was forced to return to America with his unit. On 24th December 1945 Kathleen left her family and friends in England and travelled on the merchant vessel Fosna from Liverpool to Philadelphia to start a new life with James in Niagara Falls, New York. They returned to England in 1968 and lived in Grisrhorpe, Filey where their family still live.
