For the next year, my plan is to dive into black and white and share an image a day. :) An exploration into contrast...and grain.

Part of the Essence series.
"The world we see with our senses is very different than the wold we see through our essence. Our essence perceives the deeper layers of existence. The first step of perceiving the world essence is to have no goal other than to understand. Understanding has to be the ultimate goal. Only then can we solve the problems." - Peter Kabakci
A muslim girl was walking up the stairs to the roof of a Masjid, while she looked constantly at the camera with what I was shooting.
Since in general girls are not allowed inside any Masjid, it was nice to see girl inside the Masjid.
Thick cloud cover but a brief brightening as these two matched cowls passed us at Iron with Minorca limestone empties.
We Might Have To
Medicate You
Resist your temptation to lie
By speaking of separation from Infinite,
Otherwise,
We might have to medicate
You.
In the ocean
A lot goes on beneath your eyes.
Listen,
They have clinics there too
For the insane
Who persist in saying things like:
"I am independent from the
Sea,
Infinite is not always around
Gently
Pressing against
My body.
~ Hafiz
I sought to capture the very essence of these precious moments when nature offers us a spectacle of rare intensity. That afternoon, the mist shrouded the forest in a mysterious morning-like veil, creating a subtle dialogue between different textures: the softness of emerald moss, the roughness of centuries-old trunks, and the carpet of fallen leaves. I deliberately chose a composition that guides the eye through different planes, from the mossy rocks in the foreground to the ghostly silhouettes of trees vanishing into the mist. The diffused light of this autumn afternoon allowed me to reveal subtle shades of green and touches of red persisting in the foliage, creating an atmosphere both melancholic and enchanted. This image is an invitation to contemplation, a pause in time where the forest reveals its most intimate secrets.
With my Canon 100mm Macro lens, I was able to capture the true "Essence of Beauty" of one of our Hibiscus flowers. Hope Y'all enjoy this wonderful image. Lol.

Missabe 403 and 193 hustle the Lexington Group inspection train over the Cloquet River. The day started with thick clouds, then cleared for full sun, then back to clouds (at least along the shore thanks to a marine layer off Lake Superior). Not quite a still reflection due to a slight breeze, but this is one shot I wanted to get of the paired DM&IR power.

HI EVERYONE!
so i've been so absent practically this whole month. i can't really explain it, but i have had absolutely no desire to take pictures lately and it's getting tiring. it's the most beautiful time of the year and i barely go outside :( fortunately, november is pretty much the south's october, so the leaves are basically just starting to turn, as you can see here. this tree in my yard has the most amazing colored leaves; yellow, orange, and red all in one! i don't really know what gave me the urge to take this, but the good thing is i DID, so goodbye flickr absence. i'm having my first ever fashion shoot tomorrow, so i'll be uploading lots of pictures from that in the coming weeks. it's been really stressful planning it, working everything out, and praying the weather is nice, but i /think/ its going to turn okay. wish me luck!

for weeks i've been shooting evergreens, not quite capturing their beauty. this morning, in the sub-zero air, in a different part of town, i saw this tree. and i realized its beauty comes not from its boldness but from its essence.

Bennilover posted a picture of The Essence of Benni - maybe not technically perfect but one that she couldn't bring herself to delete - and invited us to post similar photos.
I took this picture in mid April. Winter was hanging on and the temps had only warmed up to the 50s and then suddenly one day it was 85 degrees. We had no time to get acclimated to the warm weather but I was more than ready to brave the heat and go look for flowers. Jimmy followed as I walked all over our complex. I would stop to take pictures and he would find some shade to sit under while he waited. After a half hour I stopped to take pictures of tulips along a fence and the only shade Jimmy could find was a 2 inch strip on the side of an electrical box. When I started to leave, Jimmy got up to follow me and I finally noticed that he was actually panting. I walked straight home so so he could get out of the heat.
This picture is over exposed, blown out, there are weeds, the electrical box is ugly and Jimmy is blurry. But it is also the essence of Jimmy. He will do whatever it takes to be by my side. How could I possibly delete a picture that reminds me how lucky I am to have such a true friend.
