Match Report: SV Zulte Waregem (Essevee) 1-1 Norwich City

Overview

SV Zulte Waregem (Essevee) and Norwich City played out an eventful 1-1 draw in a pre-season friendly at the Elindus Arena. Both teams ended the match with ten men after first-half and second-half red cards. Despite being behind at the break, Essevee showed resilience to secure a deserved equalizer late on.

Key Moments

Early Drama: After just eleven minutes, Essevee’s Lofolomo received a straight red card for a dangerous challenge, forcing the home side to play with ten men for over an hour.

Norwich Take the Lead: Norwich dominated possession and created several chances. In the 40th minute, Errol Mundle-Smith curled a shot into the far corner, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Goalkeeper Heroics: Close to halftime, Essevee’s Gabriel denied Josh Sargent in a one-on-one situation, keeping the deficit to just one at the interval.

Red Card for Norwich: Shortly after the restart, Norwich were also reduced to ten men when AJ Bridge, only on the pitch for a couple of minutes, was sent off for a reckless foul.

Momentum Switches: The game opened up as both sides now had ten players. Essevee came close through Vossen and Erenbjerg, but Norwich’s substitute goalkeeper Reyes pulled off impressive saves to preserve the lead.

Disallowed Goal: Norwich appeared to double their lead, but the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

Deserved Equalizer: With about ten minutes remaining, Essevee won a corner. After consecutive attacks, Ablo (also referred to as Traoré in some reports) fired a powerful shot from outside the box to level the score at 1-1.
