Turbulence is in our lives everyday. Our happiness is somewhat defined on how we handle turbulence and equalize it by the time we devote to the people and things we enjoy everyday. We do have choices everyday.

Whether your day was all you wished for or it fell short. A sunset is like an equalizer. At “Days End” let go of the negative events. The beauty of the day is in each Sunset and its free admission. Enjoy it and share it here on Flickr. Thanks for viewing my work. Gratitude and Kindness are always present at sunset no matter your location.

A sunset with a cloudless sky is s tough shoot. I was fortunate to catch this moment when the sunlight, sky and land were nicely equalized. I say "bingo" on this low-key shot. At the 2024 Beaver Dam Farm Sunflower Festival south of Buchanan, Va. ©2024 | John M. Hudson

The Butterfly (painted lady) was backlit, so I used my flash to equalize the lighting on the wings. Using Manual mode with High-Speed Sync (HSS) is the only way I've found to get the lighting balanced. Thanks so much for your views, comments, and faves!!

The Diemelsee or Diemel Reservoir (German: Diemelstausee) is a reservoir with a surface area of 1.65 km²[1] and about capacity of 19.9 million m³[1] on the River Diemel in the counties of Waldeck-Frankenberg in North Hesse, and Hochsauerlandkreis, Westphalia, Germany.

It is part of the Diemeltalsperre hydropower system (DiT)[3] comprising the Diemel Dam, the equalizing basin, the power plant and the reservoir itself, owned by the Federal Waterway and Navigation Authority and managed by its Hann. Münden office. The Diemel Reservoir, along with the Edersee is part of the water regulation structure in the catchment area of the River Weser.

Here we have what will for now be the final state of this image.

Remember, it came from this image, and one click in Photoshop made it look like this.

With a couple more small tweaks I have an image that is considerably better than the one i started out with.

Some might argue that I left too much boring blue sky, but I like blue sky, so I left it in (also I kinda feel like it helps balance out the really vibrant reds). And some may feel that the red earth is still too saturated, but I feel that it really makes it POP! And I like it.

Frida Kahlo de Rivera born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón (1907 -1954) was a Mexican artist who painted many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico.

Inspired by the country's popular culture, she employed a naïve folk art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society.

Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with surrealism and mystic fantasy.

Black Vulture seen along the way sitting on the roof of this little old farm house that has sat vacant for about a year now. As we drove by a group of about a dozen were taking baths in a little creek that runs in front of the house. They would come out of the water and find a spot to spread their wings to dry in the morning sun. It's interesting that they pick this rather odd spot and come back to it; I've seen groups of up to two dozen using this creek.

The Black Vulture is a magnificent creature, please take the time to watch them, read about their symbolism and learn their history.

Skye couldn't really enjoy it, at least not in the garden. We're retiling the backyard and a young, digging Labrador having a zoomie is the last thing I can use on my freshly equalized sand bed.

Second picture of the serie Lights.

(This time, I chose the original proportions to equalize the focus of the sky and the beach, and was taken a few minutes after the previous image)

This is probably an image that summarizes my photographic work of the past two years.

That day was one of those days where luck was on my side, I drove my car to this magnificent beach of El Saler and gave me the most spectacular sunrise I had ever witnessed.

In those moments, I took and did some typical shots, but still contemplating the spectacle of lights, I crossed my mind show something different, something we're not used to seeing with our own eyes.

This photograph does not have filters or subsequent effects on processing, is a photograph 30 seconds of exposure, with a neutral gradient filter three steps, with the camera on the tripod, a hand holding a black card to avoid high sky lights for several seconds and with the other hand I carried a repetitive sweeps from side to side to create the effect of movement.

I hope you like it. Have a nice Tuesday. :)

Lake Michigan Strand Fund.

Verschiedene Faktoren trugen zu diesem Eiskristallwachstum am Sandstrand bei:

- Ungewöhnlich warmes Wasser trifft auf extrem kalte Luft was Wasserdampf erzeugt.

Lake Michigan beach find.

Several factors contributed to this ice crystal growth on the sandy beach:

- Unusually warm water meets extremely cold air creating water vapor.

- Strong westerly winds from inland blow over the high dunes, pushing the water far into the lake. This lowers the air pressure and the water level on the beach and at the foot of the dunes. This leads to the water surface and air pressure leveling out again due to the headwind and warmer waves. These waves run up the sand on the beach and then retreat, while the headwind equalizes the air pressure and blows the rising water vapor over the slightly higher snow-covered sand, where it freezes on the snow and grows into these feathery crystal formations.

When I arrived a Schwabacher's landing there were only two cars in the parking lot! I was surprised, but not complaining, that there were so few people in this typically busy place, enjoying such a wonderful morning.

Because of the clear blue sky I needed to pay careful attention to framing and composition. I was glad to find a nice clump of wild flowers in the foreground to balance things out.

This image is a layered result of a 5xp hdr image with a 5xp digital blended image both produced with Photomatix. For this scene I was trying to preserve the realistic feel without the obvious look of hdr. Digital Blending in Photomatix gives a realistic result while traditional tonemapping (hdr) does a better job at equalizing the dynamic range. Layering and blending the two results allows for something congress can't seem to do, a compromise!

I visited an auto museum in Zagreb. The Ferdinand Budicki Museum. If you ever find yourselves in Zagreb be sure to check it out. They have a wonderful automobile collection.

Among the cars there is a very old truck...and it had this old clock on top of the hood. It just seemed very comforting seeing something so old ticking it's way in the present.

The lighthouse of Doelan (tiny natural harbor in Brittany) light up by the setting sun.

On this trip, I had forgotten my camera. Hence, I had to use my mobile. Overall, I'm quite impressed by the quality of the image.

In terms of composition, I chose to go for verticality. The lighthouse was actually quite close and I use a wide angle. I used the line of the wall on the sky to create guides toward the ligthouse, as well as a feeling of lonelyness. I could not zoom out more in this direction, as there were actually houses on both sides.

I post-processed a bit the image, using the darktable software, to strength the impression of light on the lighthouse. I made the right end of the wall darker (with tone curve filters). I use a bit of contrast enhancement (contrast equalizer) on the water and on the lighthouse. I used split toning to make the sunlight parts at the center of the image more yellow. I made the top of the sky a tiny bit darker, but not much.
