I was quicker and caught Jack Frost loitering in some leaves still frozen in the shadow of trees. People are jumping in the sea here to celebrate our shortest day so many of you will be having very long days. Keep cool we will equalize in just 90 days.

Four years ago today, 123 departed Rockingham with a mixed bag of power consisting of IC, BNSF and CN for roadnames. The BNSF C44-9W was enough of an anomaly for the maritimes, let alone the straight IC 70 up front, which drew quite the crowd as the train went west, and quickly became a candidate for the best consist in Halifax in years. Engineer JH is in the process of equalizing the brakes in the leader, as Q12311 22 will be underway for points west shortly consisting of traffic entirely for Montreal and Brampton on July 22, 2022.

The Diemelsee or Diemel Reservoir (German: Diemelstausee) is a reservoir with a surface area of 1.65 km²[1] and about capacity of 19.9 million m³[1] on the River Diemel in the counties of Waldeck-Frankenberg in North Hesse, and Hochsauerlandkreis, Westphalia, Germany.
It is part of the Diemeltalsperre hydropower system (DiT)[3] comprising the Diemel Dam, the equalizing basin, the power plant and the reservoir itself, owned by the Federal Waterway and Navigation Authority and managed by its Hann. Münden office. The Diemel Reservoir, along with the Edersee is part of the water regulation structure in the catchment area of the River Weser.

With a couple more small tweaks I have an image that is considerably better than the one i started out with.
Some might argue that I left too much boring blue sky, but I like blue sky, so I left it in (also I kinda feel like it helps balance out the really vibrant reds). And some may feel that the red earth is still too saturated, but I feel that it really makes it POP! And I like it.

Black Vulture seen along the way sitting on the roof of this little old farm house that has sat vacant for about a year now. As we drove by a group of about a dozen were taking baths in a little creek that runs in front of the house. They would come out of the water and find a spot to spread their wings to dry in the morning sun. It's interesting that they pick this rather odd spot and come back to it; I've seen groups of up to two dozen using this creek.
The Black Vulture is a magnificent creature, please take the time to watch them, read about their symbolism and learn their history.

Powerful stuff.
Some are critical for posting smart phone images on Flickr because they are seriously inferior to dSLR and larger format cameras. However, through the use of post-processing software, the gap between various digital cameras can become more equalized.

The eye sees things differently than what a camera sees so the reality of any image is open to interpretation. That's what photography is all about!

Second picture of the serie Lights.
(This time, I chose the original proportions to equalize the focus of the sky and the beach, and was taken a few minutes after the previous image)
This is probably an image that summarizes my photographic work of the past two years.
That day was one of those days where luck was on my side, I drove my car to this magnificent beach of El Saler and gave me the most spectacular sunrise I had ever witnessed.
In those moments, I took and did some typical shots, but still contemplating the spectacle of lights, I crossed my mind show something different, something we're not used to seeing with our own eyes.
This photograph does not have filters or subsequent effects on processing, is a photograph 30 seconds of exposure, with a neutral gradient filter three steps, with the camera on the tripod, a hand holding a black card to avoid high sky lights for several seconds and with the other hand I carried a repetitive sweeps from side to side to create the effect of movement.

A classic view of the Manhattan skyline at dusk from Brooklyn harbor.
On such a photo, the clouds and the lights are absolutely crucial to the composition. To take this picture, I choose an angle that I likely, and I sat on a bench for an hour, looking at the light changing and the clouds moving. I took a few shots (one never knows if the situation is going to get better or worse) and selected the best.
As always, I post-processed the shot using the open-source software "Darktable". I worked mostly on the colors on one side, and the contrast and lighting on the other side.
In terms of color, I used a variety of color correction filters. I first desaturated a tiny bit the image. Then I made the highlights in the sky at the center of the image (but only there) more yellow and the lights of the city at the center of the more more orange. And finally, I used a split-toning filter on everywhere but the upper part of the sky, to make the shadows a bit bluer, and the highlights a bit more yellow.
In terms of contrast and ligthning, I used a contrast equalizer in clarity present on the skiline to make it more contrasted. I also use a set of tone curve filters to increase the contrast between the sky and the buildings, making the buildings very dark. I decreased the brigthness of the lights on the side of the pictures, and I made the light parts of the sky, between the clouds, darker near the edge and top of the image.
When I arrived a Schwabacher's landing there were only two cars in the parking lot! I was surprised, but not complaining, that there were so few people in this typically busy place, enjoying such a wonderful morning.
Because of the clear blue sky I needed to pay careful attention to framing and composition. I was glad to find a nice clump of wild flowers in the foreground to balance things out.
This image is a layered result of a 5xp hdr image with a 5xp digital blended image both produced with Photomatix. For this scene I was trying to preserve the realistic feel without the obvious look of hdr. Digital Blending in Photomatix gives a realistic result while traditional tonemapping (hdr) does a better job at equalizing the dynamic range. Layering and blending the two results allows for something congress can't seem to do, a compromise!

Keeping a lookout atop the roof of a condo at Equalizer Lake in Loveland, Colorado. Perhaps wanting to join the condo owners' association?
On a rainy evening, the "Popradské Pleso" lake in the Tatras mountains, Slovakia.
This shot was taken with a mobile phone, as my camera broke down at the very beginning of this trip. I locked the ISO setting of the phone to 100 ISO to try to get as much as possible out of the camera phone, and then resorted to post-processing to try to get a quality image.
For post-processing, I used darktable. I used non-local means denoising, and adjusted the tone curves to have a strong highlight in the center of the image. I use both the equalizer filter (in clarity mode) and the local contrast filter, with masks selecting the center of the image, to increase the contrast gradually toward the center. My goal was to make more visible the different layers of mountains.
Then, I worked a lot on the lower part of the image, the lake, to enhance the highlights in the reflection. For this, I started with a strong modification of the tone curves. However, this created a lot of noise as the sensor of the phone is not too good in the shadows. To fight this noise, applied a set of filters only on the lower part of the image: I used a stronger non-local means that I combined with a wavelet-based denoising (using the "profiled" denoising filter of darktables) as these have different types of artifacts. To cancel out the artifacts, I added to these a low-pass filter that smooths out the image. On top of this, I added artificial grain, to restore the grain of the image destroyed while smoothing.
Finally, I worked a bit on the clouds. I wanted to crop the top of the image, in order to focus more on the horizon line, but I was interested in the shapes of the cloud. So I used a liquify filter to warp these clouds down. Last, in a minor and classic trick, I created a vignetting-like effect by making the top and left clouds darker with a tone-curve filter.
This is Drøbak, Frogn and the Oslofjord where is splits into Drammensfjorden and Oslofjorden near Oscarsborg. The stripes in the mountainside on the right hand side is traces made from the Stena Line ferry Stena Saga on its laste stage in to Oslo.

I was used to see my Amaryllis* plant blooming 2 symmetrical flowers, one opposite to the other. This time it blossomed three and the third and last (in the middle) just flowered this morning.
*Correct botanical name of these flowers above: Hippeastrum (genre Amaryllis).
Shot today in manual modality, in natural in-door noon light with my glorious Fujifilm XS-1 and its potent hyperzoom Fujinon lenses 624, an almost vintage camera exemplair bought last year pristine in box from the collection of a photographer. A great camera, a little complex as it's needed every time a manual set up and equalization of colours but apt to give true tones and such detailed textures in the things photographed that usually escape to the eye sight.

The Pleiades also known as the Seven Sisters and Messier 45, is an open star cluster in the constellation Taurus.
This image is a mixture between a starless image and one with stars. I removed most tiny stars but kept the brigther ones, this allows you to see the faint nebulosity and also the colorful stars! I did this in Pixinsight by creating a starless version and then masking out all the small stars using a star mask. I then combined both images using Pixelmath.
