Finished model with lights sinking in a resin ocean.

This is what I did labor day weekend. ...we WERE supposed to be doing labor, right?

Anyway, the pictures you see here are the easy part. All the hard work isn't shown. Moving all my tools and stuff out of the garage was hard. Using a tool to scrape off decades old carpet glue was hard. Etching the concrete and cleaning was very hard. Painting in comparison was easy.

In the end, the results are fantastic. The original floor looked like crap because of the carpet glue and abuse the garage has taken over the years. Even after I scraped the glue away the discoloration make it look pretty awful, so switching to this look is awesome. Unfortunately now I feel obligated to paint the garage to make the rest of it look nice also! =D but that's ok because that was my plan anyway. fix floor, make other garage things nicer!

10/3/03 – It was a beautiful, blue sky day and I took the boat out for some pictures late afternoon. This is the best time for pictures I think. A man was fishing so he helped me carry the boat to the water. I thought I might be able to handle myself, but it is a bit too awkward to balance on my head. I will have to make some kind of transport dolly.

I have built three other wooden boats and sold them for various reasons. I will keep this one for sure.

Another view. The question is why did the plank hold up so much better than the tank top? Part of the answer is pretty clear: look at the strip of tank top along the plank. It is coated with epoxy because it's near the glue joint and it has held up nicely.

I used a paper plate and old pencil to mix my epoxy. I was generous in the amount used on his broken joints.

For Sabrina. Custom Icy. SO much epoxy, man.

I spent the better part of my Saturday hand scrubbing the floor with some Degreaser from Home Depot. It doesn't look as good as I had hoped, but I suspect the degreaser did it's job anyway. It's just one step on the way to the Epoxy Floor.

Right Shoulder and wrist are going to be really sore tomorrow :)

I spent the better part of my saturday degreasing the floor by hand with some degreaser from Home Depot. It didn't come out visually as good as I would have hoped, but the real purpose of this step is not to make it look pretty anyway so, ah well :) In any event, it does look a lot better.

I also used a Medal scraper to remove any debris from the floor as I went, so it really took quite a while.

The cabin and decks are shown here with rubbing strakes, glassed and sanded. Because time was tight, I had to sand the cured epoxy prior to a second coat. Wet on wet is easier and less time consuming but you have to be there before the epoxy hardens to put on the wet second coat.

Clean any excess epoxy that has squeezed out from under the clamps.

My best guess at what might put Mr. West back together was good old Five Minute Epoxy. Super Glue would probably work, but has a tendency to go places you don't want it to. And it dries somewhat brittle. The last thing this Johnny needs is brittle repaired joints. www.actionfigureuniverse.com/marx_original_johnny_west_01...

11/16/02 – To make the laminated rowing outrigger oarlocks I wound up using (4) stacked pieces of 1/8” bendable plywood from Lee Valley Tools. I tried to resaw and plane some spruce but it did not work out. This plywood idea came from Tom Shepherd and worked out great. I glued up (4) 1” pieces of wood to make the bending jig.

They started getting dinged up (Pine is SOFT), so I put a coat of Epoxy on it - IT LOOKS SO GOOD, and is tough as nails now!
