Post-Election Debrief and Discussion with David Masur and PA Pollster Chris Borick

Nov. 12, 2022

Philadelphia

Development in Philly is out of control, worsening conditions for working class people & the environment. Hundreds of community activists took to the streets to set the tone for Philly's 2023 election: anyone running for mayor or city council better have policy solutions for ensuring long-term, working class residents have a place in this city and that Philly is truly tackling and prepared for the climate crisis.

The march was organized by community groups fighting for land justice across our city, including Philly Thrive, Sunrise Movement, VietLead, Save UCTownhomes, Save the Meadows, Cobbs Creek EJ, and more!

Through our Multicultural Leaders in Sustainability program, we provide young migrants and refugees with the leadership skills they need to help their communities live more sustainably.

We take them on a four month training program in leadership and sustainability. Then we help them run their own sustainability projects, taking the message straight to migrant and refugee communities. Our successful graduates are awarded the Certificate I in Active Volunteering, which helps them on their path towards further study or employment.

Arctic sea-ice reductions have significant impacts on climate, wildlife and communities. The opening of open water across the Arctic ocean will have unknown consequences in terms of changes in water circulation and redistribution of species from the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. As sea ice coverage declines, albedo diminishes and more radiation is absorbed by the sea water, in a feed-back process that enhances warming and melting sea ice.

This is a fictitious space for my clothing label UPPERCASE. The space is built a quarter inch to scale and was very tedious, but was an amazing project.

Not a true giant, but a big tree none the less. This only hints at the desolation now surrounding it.

I took this shot towards the end of a 350 event I participated in.

It's a crop, and straining the limits of my compact digital camera. I didn't get any pics of the "350" figure we made with our bodies and orange cloth. It was someone else's day to go up the tree and take that picture.

Hi, waiting for someone?

In celebration of the GreenTown Turkish and Kurdish community program, we held an event at the Alevi Community Council of Australia in North Coburg on Friday, 11 June.

75 people attended, members of Melbourne’s Turkish and Kurdish communities. We showed a documentary that the Alevi community produced, in English and Turkish, about GreenTown and heard a lovely performance by a Turkish sem (like an oud) player. We also gave out certificates of achievement to all 13 GreenTown Assessors and Suzan, our community consultant.

Speakers included: Kelly O’Shanassy, CEO of Environment Victoria; Carlo Carli MP, Member for Brunswick (in place of Premier Brumby); Stella Kariofyllidis, Mayor of Moreland; Surmeli Aydogan, Chairperson of the Alevi Community Council of Aust; Suzan Saka, GreenTown Turkish program community consultant.
