When the Rhiwbach Tramway ceased operations in 1961, Maenofferen quarry took it over to ensure its transportation link - at the time it had no road access. All traffic to and from Maenofferen went over the tramway for the next 20 years.
This is the entry point to Maenofferen proper. To the left is the foot of Rhiwbach No. 3 incline. This bridge leads over the River Bowydd and beyond forms a reversing spur allowing trains to gain height up to the mills level of the quarry.
Temple of Khnum, Esna, Egypt.
The deities of Esna seem to have been the triad – Khnum and Neith, and Heka their offspring. The temple of Esna, dedicated to this triad, was remarkable for the beauty of its site and the magnificence of its architecture. It was built of red sandstone, and its portico consisted of six rows of four columns each, with lotus-leaf capitals, all of which differ from each other.
With the exception of the jamb of a gateway – now converted into a door-sill – of the reign of Thutmose II (Eighteenth Dynasty), the remains of Esna belong to the Ptolemaic or Roman eras. Ptolemy III Euergetes, the restorer of so many temples in Upper Egypt, was a benefactor. He is depicted upon the walls of the temple, followed by a tame lion, in the act of striking down the chiefs of his enemies.
Although the scale of the ruins are impressive, their sculptures and hieroglyphics attest to the decline of Egyptian art. - extracts from wikipedia.

Shot for the firm I work for, Meacham Apel Architects. A entry detail. Shot with a D300 and a Tamron 11-17mm lens. All post pocessing with Capture NX2.
The entry way was used for food service. Tables placed in an L shape with the doors closed to the ceremony room.

I've researched, trying to find out what these gates lead to and according to jddoren08, it is the side entrance to Dunecht Estate. Built in 1820 as the family home of the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres, the house has a grand ballroom, chapel and observatory and is surrounded by extensive gardens. It also has an observatory, built by James Ludovic Lindsay, the 26th Earl of Crawford. The house is currently owned and occupied by Hon Charles Pearson, brother of the 4th Viscount Cowdray.
We were on the road from Aberdeen to Kildrummy when we passed by these gates and I hollered for Will to stop the car. There has to be an important piece of property up on the road but we didn't check it out. Just stopped for pictures of this grand entry.
Dunecht is located 12 miles (19.5km) west of the city of Aberdeen and is situated by the confluence of the Kinnernie and Bervie burns. Formerly known as Waterton, it was renamed to Dunecht in the 1820s when the Crawford family built Dunecht House. The estate achieved a certain measure of notoriety in 1881 due to theft of the remains of the 25th Earl of Crawford.
Via maps.google.com I was able to find out its location even with a huge truck parked in front of the gates.
If your UK street sign is made of metal and has raised lettering then there's a good chance that it was made in the Royal Label Factory in Chipping Norton
The company got its Royal Warrant in 1876 for supplying metal identification tags for Queen Victoria's rose garden. In her old age the queen's sight was fading so she used the raised lettering as a kind of braille!

I was honored to be invited to photograph the home of the late Leta Mac Stripling before renovation begins. Inside this well-maintained c. 1920s farmhouse are Mrs. Stripling's furnishings and objets d'art, including a set of Currier prints, documents of local historic interest, and many, many books.

My wife and I went to the first exhibition in Germany about Adof Hitler since the end of the war,needless to say its a touchy subject. The exhibit was located in the German national history museum and when you went inside the museum you would never know there was an exhibit about Hitler. I asked if i could take pictures and i was told i could without a flash but i managed to go in and snap a few pictures before i was told i was not allowed to,
The exhibit makes a strong point to explain the rise of Hitler,his impact on Germany,its people and crimes the crimes committed by this regime. The stories i read about it in English language German newspapers say they did not want the exhibition to be something Neo Nazis would not flock to.
The whole exhibition covers Hitler's rise from obscurity,the Nazis grab of power,life in Nazi Germany,Racial laws,the start of the war to the end and Hitler's legacy.
As well as the public's perception of Hitler from his time to present. I found it a bit strange to hear laughter during the exhibit but this came from scenes from Charlie Chaplin's parody of Hitler to videos from youtube with the meme of "Hitler's reaction to.." from the movie the Untergang. The youtube video "Hitler's reaction to Micheal Jacksons death" was on display which garned alot of laughs.
The whole exhibit had many relics from Nazi Germany. There were all sorts of uniforms from the 3rd reich like posters,children's books,painting,nazi street signs,Field Marshall baton's, strips of uncut yellow fabric the with star of David and "jude" written on it. Some of the artifacts were in such pritine condition they were down right errie looking.
The whole exhibit was really interesting but the disappointing part is that the main sections of the exhibit were described in English as well as German but alot of the individual artifacts and displays were only in German which gave me the impression that the exhibit was mainly for Germans.
