The blue Helix Bridge designed by Marcus Taylor is one of a number of innovative bridges incorporated into the regeneration of Paddington Basin. The distinctive feature of the Helix Bridge is that it retracts by rotating like a corkscrew. The buildings under construction are at Merchant Square, the final phase of the Paddington Basin redevelopment . beyond that is waterside House by Rogers, Stirk, Harbour.
A short drive from the Kelpies took us to see the Falkirk Wheel. A couple of weeks before, we had spent a weekend on a canal boat on the |Llangollen Canal. After manoeuvring Welsh canal locks and swing bridges, the Falkirk Wheel was a must-see destination.

Just as the Anderton Boat Lift near Northwich lifts canal boats from the River Weaver Navigation to the Trent & Mersey Canal The Falkirk Wheel serves a similar purpose but in a different way. My photos show the Wheel in operation at different stages of a lift operation.
