Founded in 1070, this vibrant city has long attracted travellers to its unique harbour setting and its ancient medieval streets still hark back to the days of the Hansa merchants, who turned this northern port into one of the pivotal centres of their expansive commercial empire. You can take a stroll through the labyrinthine streets and alleys of old Bergen, visit the traditional Hanseatic painted warehouses in the Bryggen district, or take in the hustle and bustle of its engaging fish market.

FAQ

NATO's Medium Extended Air Defense System (or MEADS for short) is built up of four primary building blocks, the first of which serves the mmost glamorous function--actually engaging the enemy. The Transporter Erector Launcher (TEL) utilizes the MIM-104F PAC-3 MSE missile, carried in modular eight-pack cannisters. An evolution of the venerable PATRIOT missile, the MSE increases the system's range and lethality over the baseline PAC-2 & PAC-3 variants of the PATRIOT misile that have been in service since 1990. This interceptor's capability gives NATO's MEADS batteries game against both aircraft and ballistic missile targets.

The TEL vehicle itself is also one of the key features of MEADS' "Plug-and-Fight" design. Since most of the electronics and combat systems reside on the missile pack itself, it can be loaded on almost any vehicle which is equipped with a standardized Load Handling System (LHS). In US Army service, MEADS TELs are almost always an M1120A4 HEMTT LHS. This can vary in other NATO member nations, such as the German or Dutch contingents in ZEUS, which utilize heavy-duty RMMV HX trucks.

Shoutout to Corvin for designing the missile pack component. A multinational system in real life as well as in Lego!

You may have heard of Bob Ross's legendary “happy little trees” or “happy little clouds.” This art world icon created a legacy that spans across generations. With his calming voice, endless creativity, and signature afro, he became a cherished public figure and a name everyone knows.

These trees are part of Bournemouth’s Christmas Tree Wonderland, a beautiful festive path that meanders through the lower gardens of Bournemouth, adorned with enchanting lights. Brimming with magic, sparkle, and awe, the Christmas Tree Wonderland trail is animated by frequent light displays, moving characters, and live music throughout the journey. The event took place from 15th November to 31st December 2023, showcasing more than 100 sparkling trees and illuminations.

The Lower, Central, and Upper Gardens offer various environments and activities. Since 1999, all three gardens have received Green Flag awards. They stretch approximately 3 kilometres from Bournemouth pier to the Poole boundary. The gardens are included in the Bourne Valley Greenway and are Grade II listed in the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens. Numerous activities and events occur in Bournemouth Gardens, or you can just take in the beautiful surroundings.

The Lower Gardens, though relatively brief in length as it stretches from the pier to the town centre, is always bustling with activity. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy attractions such as mini golf, a bandstand, the Hedgehog Kiosk for snacks, Street Food Corner, an aviary, and one of the longest-running open-air art exhibitions in the country. Various events occur all year round, including the remarkable Christmas Tree Wonderland, which showcases a beautiful trail of Christmas trees and festive activities, drawing in thousands of guests.

The modest structure located in the middle distance is the public toilets of the Lower Gardens. During the summer, these facilities are open from 7:30 am until 5:30 pm, while in the winter, the hours change to 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Additionally, it features a Changing Places toilet designed for those with disabilities, as well as a family room equipped for baby changing needs.

The prominent building visible in the background is the ODEON Bournemouth BH2 cinema. This establishment boasts 10 screens that present cinematic marvels in stunning RealD 3D and engaging immersive iSense experiences. The auditoriums are equipped with Premier and Recliner Seats for added comfort. Additionally, the cinema features a spacious Costa coffee shop and a Bar for refreshments. ODEON Bournemouth BH2 is conveniently located within the car park of the BH2 leisure centre, making it easily accessible for visitors.

RealD 3D is a cinema technology that uses circularly polarized light to create a stereoscopic image projection. It's designed to provide an immersive experience with high-resolution video, surround sound, and realistic scenes. iSense is ODEON's cutting-edge cinema technology that combines the best sound, picture and venue design for a truly immersive cinema experience.

The Cullasaja Gorge - A Winter Scenic

A couple weeks back during our cold spell here in the Southern Appalachians, I wondered up to the Highlands like many to witness Dry Falls frozen over and to play a bit in the Cullasaja Gorge. The skies were insignificant in terms of cloud cover and color, so I climbed around the gorge for a good bit finding beautiful ice formations and potential compositions, ultimately waiting for the sun to rise and bring life to what in winter is truthfully a landscape without much color! I settled onto a scene and composition--that you see here--which at the moment I thought was something special. I squeezed and narrowed my aperture down to hopefully invite and perhaps even entice the sunshine to bring its warmth into my frame, full well knowing that at f22 sharpness is not necessarily optimized and that many in the photographic community would view the lens flare among others as technically inferior (gotta shoot for yourself at the end of the day you know!). In many aspects I was embracing the process of photography and milking a scouting shot for everything I could imagine, if for nothing else than to practice the craft and enjoy a morning out of doors in a really neat place.

When I returned home I was actually excited that I might have made something out of my excursion--funny how an hour or so in the car with a few new shots on the memory card will get your hopes going! However, once I downloaded and performed a light wash on the images in Lightroom I wasn't very moved by the product. Certainly something that I would appreciate in my private library for the personal experience and one of many photographs that would represent the diversity of excursions that silently comprise a body of work defining me as a photographer, but not a piece that I would feel comfortable selling as "fine art". No big deal in the scheme of things--I practiced, I put in work, I engaged the process, I packed the weight, I broke a sweat, I did all the things necessary to sharpen the axe or to please the Muse as author Steven Pressfield would say. I got closer than I was the day before to understanding this area and to piecing together all the elements to eventually create that piece of fine art photography--and well, for me, that's good enough.

Have a wonderful weekend folks!

An engaging hill top ruin was built by William the Conqueror. It dates back to the 11th century and commands a gap in the Purbeck Hills on the route between Wareham and Swanage. Originally it was one of the first castles in England to be built using stone. Corfe Castle underwent major changes in the 12th and 13th centuries. In 1572, the castle was sold by Queen Elizabeth to Sir Christopher Hatton.

Sir John Bankes bought the castle in 1635, and was the owner during the English Civil War. His wife, Lady Mary Bankes, led the defence of the castle when it was twice besieged by Parliamentarian forces. The first siege, in 1643, was unsuccessful, but by 1645 Corfe was one of the last remaining royalist strongholds in southern England and fell to a siege ending in an assault. In March that year Corfe Castle was demolished on Parliament's orders.

Owned by the National Trust, it is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Articulated puppet of Milhaus from my LEGO brickfilm animation Bort Sampson. This is course was based off the real Bart Simpson's bespectacled friend Milhouse.

This is an elaborate and ambitious mixed-media project that I've been gradually producing since late October 2019, which blends stop-motion with live action – similar to my Zelda Cereal Animation and Shrek Chicken Nuggets videos.

Without giving away any spoilers, this video involves Bort and Milhaus engaging in combat over some gasoline discovered in a nature park in Sprungfeld. The main set was a large tabletop scene of LEGO flowers and trees, with a lot of backgrounds and B-roll reused. The climax features a large mountainside set constructed of Springfeld Gorge. Each puppet was built with the same articulation and design patterns of my previous Link and Kokiri kid puppets in the Zelda Cereal video, such as the usage of Mixels joints.

An engaging and curious dance performance, Black Victorians highlights and celebrates the diverse black presences in 19th and early 20th Century Britain.

Watch as the dancers bring to life the complex, but often forgotten generation of black men, women and children in pre-Windrush Britain, previously hidden over time and now brought to your attention in challenging, contemporary times.

From the Artistic Director and Choreographer, Jeanefer Jean-Charles MBE, Black Victorians is inspired by Black Chronicles – The Missing Chapter, an ongoing curatorial research programme led by Autograph, which focuses on unearthing nineteenth century photographs of black presences in Britain’s archives.
