A familiar path is like an old friend who welcomes you back, to enjoy another moment together. There is an association that although commonplace, is beyond the recognized and more engaging.

Trekking nature's pathways may divulge different opportunities given our various seasons. It is another reason to enjoy the familiar while experiencing the changes that unveil new opportunities.

Engaging return to this Alpine valley after seven months.

The last snowfall in April still left pleasant traces on the higher peaks and north-facing slopes.

All the meadows are richly coloured with flowers and are a joy to behold.

It was the perfect time to walk along the waterfront, there was a nice atmosphere, people chatted on the edge of the pier, someone prepared the take-off of a small paper balloon, many took photos of the boundary between sea and sky, with the light fading gently second by second. A ritual full of harmony and engaging aspects, was already a beautiful summer evening.

"The Happy Family" is a renowned painting created by the Dutch artist Jan Steen. Painted during the 17th century, Steen was known for his ability to capture scenes of everyday life with a touch of humor and wit. "The Happy Family" exemplifies his style and showcases his talent for storytelling within a single image.

In this painting, Steen depicts a bustling household filled with various members of a family engaged in different activities. At the center of the composition, a jovial couple sits at a table, surrounded by their children and other relatives. The scene is filled with laughter, lively conversation, and playful interactions. The family members engage in various activities, such as eating, drinking, playing music, and engaging in games. Steen's use of vibrant colors and intricate brushwork further enhances the joyful atmosphere of the painting.

Despite the apparent chaos, "The Happy Family" also carries a deeper message. It serves as a reminder of the importance of familial bonds and the joys of shared moments. Steen's portrayal of the diverse characters and their interactions reflects the complexities and dynamics of family life. Through his portrayal, he highlights both the humorous and challenging aspects of domesticity.

the wonder of the sea is that you can see it, hear it, smell it, taste it and feel it . . .

Who doesn’t love a head on pose? The bill and those eyes, I’m not sure which I find more engaging. I was very lucky in my encounter with these birds - typically skittish and out to sea, they became very comfortable with my presence at low tide one late morning with beautiful steel light. Eventually they came close until some idiot in a kayak decided to paddle right beside me and scare them all away. Atleast I got a number of shots of the drakes and a few hen.

After engaging in a very successful pollen-gathering session, a bee cautiously emerges from the bright flower of a Prickly Pear cactus (Opuntia sp.) in the Sonoran Desert, Santa Rita Experimental Range, Arizona. As I sat there with the camera, it really did appear to be watching me, gauging the level of risk that I might pose. Once I was deemed suitably harmless, or maybe it got desperate?, it was off to another destination.

The photograph captures a vibrant scene at the Naschmarkt flea market in Vienna. Several people, a mix of adults and young adults, are intently examining a table laden with various antique and vintage items. The table displays a diverse collection of objects, including brassware, small picture frames, and other trinkets. The people are dressed in casual, contemporary clothing, suggesting a relaxed and leisurely atmosphere. The market is outdoors, with tents providing shade and creating a lively, colorful backdrop. The overall impression is one of a bustling and engaging urban marketplace.

In recent years, rhinos have been threatened by poaching, urbanization and pollution, which have left certain rhino species on the brink of extinction while leaving other species severely endangered.

Rhino horns are in great demand in many southeast Asian countries like Vietnam. The Chinese use it as an aphrodisiac and make traditional medicines with it. More than ever, rhinos need care and conservation now. Organisations and non-profit groups across the world are engaging in anti-poaching measures.

The rhinoceros is our planet’s armoured giant. There are five species of rhino – white and black rhinos in Africa, and the greater one-horned, Javan and Sumatran rhino species in Asia.

This is Suria KLCC, one of the largest shopping centres in Kuala Lumpur (which may not be saying much, as KL has dozens upon dozens of humongous shopping complexes throughout the city). Suria, which is Malay for “sunshine”, is located at the base of the Petronas Towers, the tallest twin towers in the world. “KLCC” is the acronym for Kuala Lumpur City Centre. Suria KLCC has over ***400 stores***.

This image was taken from the sixth and highest floor of the shopping complex looking down to the main floor, where a Christmas play was in progress. You can see numerous spectators along the balustrades of each level observing the program. Needless to say (literally), the place was packed on account of customers engaging in their last-minute holiday shopping on Christmas Eve. The large, vertical, tubular platform to the right (that somewhat resembles the human spine) is actually an elevator!

On a cold cold evening ... Arkon has what appears to be an allergy to fleas. He was at the vet a few weeks ago and we came home with a treatment. He has been a very itchy boy and mutilating himself whilst engaging in strange aggressive grooming and has had to wear a cone for far too long to stop him from this behaviour. His back is healed up, but the itching is slow to abate. So this evening we got steroids to help stop the itching. He has been slowly improving since the flea treatment. The steroids will hopefully clear up the itching very quickly.

Hawker Hurricane P2902 was built in 1939 as a Mk.1 by Gloster Aircraft and first flew in October of that year starting life with 245 Squadron at Drem in Scotland flying shipping patrols. On May 31 Hawker Hurricane P2902 carrying the code DX and R for Robert was heading for the French coast to provide cover for the evacuation of thousands of allied troops trapped on the shore around Dunkirk. Pilot Officer Kenneth McGlashan engaged a Messerschmitt 109 who managed to hit the Hurricane. The badly injured pilot managed to bring the damaged aircraft down to crash land on a beach in Dunkirk, where it remained until recovered by French enthusiasts in 1988. It was obtained some time later by warbird operator Rick Roberts who subsequently employed the services of several restorers before finally engaging Hawker Restorations, where it was returned to flying condition.

Voigtländer Color-Dynarex 135mm f4 is one of few slowish 135mm I have. They are all on the very sharp side wide open but not a bokeh monsters.

However in right conditions , with right background and addidtional helicoid to get closer than 1.6m MFD, unexpected and intriguing resluts my be produced.

This one is a typical, smooth telephoto or macro bokeh. Nice, not distracting, but not engaging and it does not add anything to a photo.

I spent a very engaging half hour on a late afternoon with this young Grebe, who was testing its ability to run across the water for liftoff. After every run, it would swim back to a remote part of the shore where I was hidden, groom itself, and then get ready for another go.

Because it was late afternoon/early evening, there was no one else around, and I was both hidden and still. The bird was focused on its work preparing for southbound migration and I was the lucky witness.

Of course the principal feature of this image for me is a look at its enormous foot. Attached at its back end, instead of underneath its central body, the feet make diving easy and walking/running a lot more complicated.
