A familiar path is like an old friend who welcomes you back, to enjoy another moment together. There is an association that although commonplace, is beyond the recognized and more engaging.

Trekking nature's pathways may divulge different opportunities given our various seasons. It is another reason to enjoy the familiar while experiencing the changes that unveil new opportunities.

The American white ibis is territorial, defending the nesting and display sites against intruders. Agonistic or threat displays include lunging forward with the bill in a horizontal posture, and standing upright and snapping the bill opposite another bird engaging in the same display. Birds also lunge and bite, often holding onto an opponent's head or wings. ~ Wikipedia

Engaging return to this Alpine valley after seven months.

The last snowfall in April still left pleasant traces on the higher peaks and north-facing slopes.

All the meadows are richly coloured with flowers and are a joy to behold.

Molto piacevole il ritorno in questa valle alpina, dopo sette mesi. Montagne ancora discretamente innevate, dopo una abbondante nevicata in Aprile, mentre nei boschi e nelle verdi praterie, le fioriture danno spettacolo.

Mothers teach us a lot, don't they? They teach us tolerance, they teach us patience along with acceptance (at least hopefully most do), they guide us through difficult times and teach us coping skills, how to become independent with the tools we need in order to live on our own.

They teach us compassion for others and how to show kindness to all living beings whether feathered, 4 legged and furry or the 2 legged kind that can sometimes be difficult.

I could go on and on with this list but it would take too long. This is a tribute to my mother who passed away on this day in 1994. She was way too young and I really would love it if she was here still today. But we will meet again someday and it will be a wonderful reunion that I have faith will happen.

Love you mom.

In this photo, mom is in the middle and her two cubs were doing their best to engage her in some rough and tumble play in the middle of the river. She was engaging them a bit but I loved this photo, even though her back is to the camera because you can see how each cub has a paw on mom's back. They really wanted her to play

Cherish your mom if you still have her.

Our smallest bird and such an engaging one at that.

Bruno looking extra handsome on a walking path in the tall grasses. This park is close to our house but we'd never brought Bruno or the other dogs there before. Bruno got to do a solo walk which are his favourite.

He also saw his first prairie dogs or Richardson ground squirrels. I'm not sure which they were, but either way Bruno wanted to meet them. Bruno tried to yell at them to find out if they were ground squirrels or prairie dogs. But, they are apparently not as social as him and chose to scatter instead of engaging in polite conversation.

He spent more time on the walk and photo session eating tall grasses than behaving properly. So much that I considered one of the photos of him in full munch mode for his project. But in the end I could not resist this goofy grin for his project photo. The grass buffet picture is linked in the comments.

Sorry, I'm on a bear roll right now so bear with me.

After engaging in a very successful pollen-gathering session, a bee cautiously emerges from the bright flower of a Prickly Pear cactus (Opuntia sp.) in the Sonoran Desert, Santa Rita Experimental Range, Arizona. As I sat there with the camera, it really did appear to be watching me, gauging the level of risk that I might pose. Once I was deemed suitably harmless, or maybe it got desperate?, it was off to another destination.

Thanks for your visits and comments, and happy belated Earth Day!

A different view of the Salish Sea brought forward an unusual moment. A brake between two properties allowed me access to this view. When the owner of one property returned home, we struck up a conversation. Our discussion led to a future invitation and access was granted to another spot.

But it was the conversation that was engaging, friendly, and informative. This is the best that evening offered in the form of a photo. However, it was the meeting of a kind heart that I will always remember.

The tender moments of smooches and nuzzles between a young moose calf and its mother are vital to their development. After engaging in some spirited head-butting, the calf demonstrates its strong bond through sweet nuzzles and affectionate smooches with its mom. This morning, they graced our backyard once again, filling me with joy upon seeing them. There's something truly special about watching the calf frolic and play as its mother grazes peacefully, making for a heartwarming start to the day.
