NS Train 168 is heading into the setting sun on Norfolk Southern's Southern West District at Bartelso Illinois on its way to St. Louis.

On a rainy day, an East bound CSX train with an EMD SD60M leader clears Harpers Ferry, WV.

Khang and I were quite surprised to run into this pair of CN motors on the Marshall Sub. We decided to give a quick chase while waiting for the BN pair. First time shooting a CN 75i, they're pretty neat.

Forget about that trail fail heritage unit. The star of the show is the Spartan cab leader! The SD70!

Intermodal train 21T got a bit of a late start out of Harrisburg and finally thunders over the stone arch bridge crossing the mighty Shermans Creek at CP CANNON.

An Alaska Railroad passenger train loading up full of tourists from the Norwegian Jewel cruise ship after a 7 day cruise. I was one of the tourist from the boat using the Alaska Railroad as their way of transportation to Anchorage. It was a nice ride and of course I had to grab a shot from the port prior to boarding.

Entering Oceanside coming from Los Angeles. I'm not the hugest fan of these locomotives compared to the Chargers I usually see but they are something different.

BNSF M-EVELVW, the Everett to Longview manifest, heads south along the Puget Sound coastline at Chambers Bays Beach. While it may only be a low priority manifest, the SD75M duo sandwiching a triclops SD60M is a prime example of why this train & its northbound counterpart are some of the higher sought out trains in the area since it often gets this kind of power. 6-23-23

Summer 2018

BNSF's racetrack is certainly an amazing place to spend some time. This has been on my bucket list for a while, and I was fortunate to get to spend some time watching trains here. As the famous home of EMD, I knew LaGrange was going to be a target for me. I was elated when this EMD leader crested the hill, allowing me this classic photo of an EMD leader in LaGrange. While not an SD40 or something cool like that, it's still neat I was able nail a proper leader in this famous location.

Electro Motive Diesel SD60 Demonstrator engines EMD #1 and EMD #4 along with Santa Fe SD45 #5382 head Westbound on the #358 train (Kansas City to Los Angeles) on July 19th, 1985.

This was taken at Arrowhead Jct. which is West of Needles, CA.

We had a decent chase of SSR grain train 3248, led by a rare and superb-sounding five pack of C507-RL301-C506-RL306-RL304 (all SD40 equivalents).

Despite unexpected heavy cloud, we were up early and caught the train at a good number of sun spots. Thanks to Graham Cotterall for carting us around.

Twenty one years ago, UP 3339 was repainted green and renumbered the UP 1996 to commemorate the Summer Olympic games in Atlanta, Georgia. Three months after the games, it received both a fresh coat of Armour Yellow paint and a new road number. UP 3101 leads four SD40-2s on a Chicago to Los Angeles stack train emerging from North Yard in Salt Lake City, Utah the morning of Nov. 10, 1996.

SD70M 4232 and EMD friends move empty Rolla, CO - Nephi, UT rock salt train onto THE D&RGW mainline at Dotsero. These irregular winter trains are the only UP train still traveling the length of the Denver - Salt Lake Mainline.

Black River & Western (BRW) SW1200 no. 1202 stands with the railroad's Santa Express at Flemington Station, awaiting departure to Ringoes. The locomotive was built in 1957 for the New York, New Haven & Hartford.

Heading out of The Trench on Main Track 4 of the KCT East-West Corridor at Grand Ave. is UP train YKS62-04 with a pair of SD40Ns. This is a transfer from KCS's Knoche Yard to UP's 18th St. Yard. 6/4/20.

Spanish moss dangles from the trees, swaying in the breeze as the St. Marys Railroad (SM) departs from the interchange yard in Kingsland, headed back to their namesake Georgia town with MP15DC no. 2379 leading the way. The 11-mile class III railroad operates in the towns of St. Marys and Kingsland, Georgia, connecting to the First Coast Railroad in the latter.

NREX GP16 1852 of obvious Seaboard System heritage was bringing up the end of a rather large offering of EMDs in Iowa City in 1996.

Crandic SW14 108 and NREX GP10 7708 were also hitching a ride either to or from NRE in Silvis behind the Crandic road power consisting of CIC GP9s 100-105 as it was preparing to back onto the Crandic road job

I was going to chase this mess to Cedar Rapids, but Iowa Interstate decided to roll through town with a better mess of locomotion. IAIS CBBI was powered by a pair of GP10s, a GP38, the C420 and a M420.

I elected to chase that mess to the Quad Cities instead,

A trio of EMD widecabs leads this Becker load which is just a few hundred feet from diverging into the power plant spur.

I was racing from Big Lake to capture another shot of a westbound. But it was holding in Becker for back to back loaded trains going into the plant.

I made to the crossing just in time to realize that this wasn't an ACe or a GEVO.

This H2 SD70MAC has been playing in the snow, but it looks good on the point of this train in full sun!

There used to be a station sign near here but was removed during the double track expansion. That would've made for a neat shot, but this crossing shanty will do.

A trio of EMD's sit in Tunnel Yard in Port Huron. The GT units await local duties while the SD75I, which came through on Z529 waits to be cut on to another train back to Canada.

Something you just don't see sitting around every day. Seen at Ederville, nothing like having and EMD 567 prime mover in your collection.

New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad (NH) FL9 no. 2006 is on display at the Danbury Railway Museum, adorned with festive lights for the holiday season. The locomotive is one of 60 such dual-mode locomotives built specifically for the New Haven from 1956-1960. The "L" in the model number actually stands for "long," since it is longer than the standard F9 to include a larger steam heating boiler and electrical equipment for third rail operation. The additional weight of the equipment also required a three-axle rear truck to meet loading restrictions, giving the locomotives an uncommon five-axle B-A1A wheel arrangement.

Dozens of EMD's (mostly SD40-2's, but also some GP38-2's and SD9043MAC's) populate the deadline at Weston Yard in Winnipeg.

A pair of Iowa Northern geeps face off with Rock Island E6 630 at Iowa Northern's Manly shop.

The EMDs were a welcome diversion from Chicagoland and the constant infestation of General Electric power.

Wearing a fresh coat of paint, Union Pacific TR5 No. 1874/1874B work the north end of Provo Yard on March 27, 1977. This 'Cow & Calf' pair is from an order of eight A/B sets acquired from EMD in September and October 1951. By Oct. 1981, the 1874 was rebuilt into SW10 No. 1227. The 1874B was retired in June 1982 and scrapped.

The original EMD Engine Plaque still remains on a former UP GP30, which now resides at the Portola Railroad Museum.

I heard through a friend that the B&O was testing SD60 demonstrators out of Cumberland, Maryland. Arriving in Cumberland, we learned that the EMD-4 was leading a train that would head west on the St. Louis main line. Here the new model crosses the North Branch of the Potomac River at Bloomington, Maryland.
