I'm still going through some older shots from before I joined flickr to see if there are any worth uploading. Most of them are the typical GE leaders on the CP, but I'm finding more EMDs than I remember seeing. Here's the second of two eastbounds that I got at sunset on a nice spring evening at Belgrade, MN back in May 2010. This is train 290, the stacks on the head end being a giveaway that this is the intermodal/manifest from Winnipeg.
Pan Am Train DOBO (Dover to Boston) makes their way into the commuter station as they head to Boston with all three painted New Hampshire Northcoast units and 20 loads for Boston Sand & Gravel. With mainly Pan Am freights being all GE powered, it’s nice to have the sound of EMDs especially the former Rock Island GP18 in the middle of the consist. Photo taken Haverhill, MA January 7, 2020
Q217-15 crosses the ancient Thomas Viaduct on a frigid February day.
After hearing that Q217 had an emd leader and it was tied at HX, I made my way over to see for myself. Upon arrival, a crew car left from where the train was tied, meaning the new crew was most likely taking over and the train would be off on the road soon. Since he would (probably) be leaving soon, I decided to camp out at the west side of the Thomas Viaduct, and about a half hour later the train reared its big head over the viaduct under the late afternoon sun. The photo result wasn't too bad.
A burst of orange fireworks almost gives the impression that 4204 has blown up, as Streamliner locos 42105,4201,4204,S311,GM19,GM10,S311 sit on display through the fireworks spectacular at the Streamliners 2022 event at Goulburn on Saturday night 1-10-22
Providence and Worcester WX-1 is seen approaching the crossings just south of Worcester yard on the Providence Line with three EMD GP38s hard at work.
Evansville Western's MCL1 is spotting and pulling Consolidated Grain & Barge Company with a GP38-2 & a couple GP40 slugsets for power. This is the crew's second stop of the morning, after working the elevator on the Southeast side of McLeansboro.
INRD 3808 & INRD 3802, both GP38-2’s leading the HWBLT train across the popular Tulip Trestle. The HWBLT train is usually only about 10 cars. But, luckily enough when I was down in the area, they moved 40 coal cars into storage making for an almost 50 car train. Tulip Trestle finished construction in 1906 and was built for the Indianapolis Southern which then became apart of the Illinois Central. Tulip Trestle is by far the most popular shot across the INRD system but it’s a shot you never want to pass up!

One of Soo Line's five SD60Ms led a HATX former Chessie System GP38 leaser and a dual flag CP SD40-2 through Wadsworth on the C&M Subdivision on a winter afternoon in 1997.
Two very different forms of American muscle are on display at the Woodstown Central Railroad. Resting on steel wheels is Reading Company FP7A no. 902, built by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors in 1950. Riding on rubber tires is a 1965 GTO, manufactured by the Pontiac Motor Division of the same parent company.
A Union Pacific SD40N, assigned to the Ogden Subdivision, rests in Brigham City, Utah the afternoon of Oct. 4, 2020. UP 1846 was built CNW SD40-2 No. 6810 in Aug. 1973.
EMD FT 103, the famous "Diesel That Did It" when it went on tour in 1939-40 and sold railroads on diesels was on another nationwide tour in 1990 when it stopped at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth. For a photo session the Museum pulled out Great Northern Railway Historical Society's Great Northern SD45 No. 400, the first production SD45. I remember friend Rick Knutson and I were wearing shorts and temps were in the 90s when we left St. Paul, but the wind was off the lake and we were very cold taking this shot, even though it was July 3!

A pair of EMDs bring a westbound CSX freight underneath the former Rock Island back in 2004.
Led by a Union Pacific (former Southern Pacific) SD45T-2 and a BNSF (former Burlington Northern) SD40-2, the pair of off-line motors made for a great sight as they blasted through Blue Island.
The morning run to the Harbor has just departed Hoyt Lakes. As expected, the Alco C420 #4218 in the consist is doing most of the smoking...

The IHB is always a colorful place to visit and a view from Halsted Street never disappoints. A trio of retro SW1500's await their assignment below me, the last Harbor 6 axle SD38-2 3861 waits for their crew, and Harbor Veteran's Appreciation unit GP38-2 3800 and older sister 3801 shove back to grab another cut of cars. Out of frame working the yard to my left was IHB 4010, Harbors rebuilt ex SP GP40P-2.

Denver & Rio Grande Western acquired 24 GP9 locomotives from EMD between April 1955 and July 1956. Rio Grande numbered them in groups of four (5901-5904, 5911-5914, etc.), intending to run them in quartets (like F-units) on the main line. The last unit in the series idles away a Sunday afternoon in Provo, Utah on Sept. 11, 1983. The 1750 HP geep was retired from the active roster on Oct. 3, 1991, and sold to National Railway Equipment in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
A nice trio of EMD products consisting of an ST70AH, SD40-2, and an SD40-3 are rolling east on the Plymouth Sub with the daily L303 to Detroit. After hearing 8900 lead L302 into Grand Rapids the night before, many of us kept an ear out, hoping that it would somehow lead back east again. As luck would have it, all 3 units were facing west, so they spun the whole set before leaving.

Its not often that you can catch 3 EMD products leading a train on Class 1 anymore, with PSR having sent so many either into storage or onto the auction block. So when D705 showed up the other day with an SD50-3/SD40-3/GP40-2 combo, I absolutely went out to shoot it. The trio is seen here with dynamics howling as they descend into Grand Rapids, about to take a Medium Clear at Seymour onto track 2.

Yesterday while out looking for fall colors to photograph, I thought to myself, "It sure would be nice if there was a little more red around". And then, there is was in the form of two Canadian Pacific Railway EMD SD30C-ECO locomotives in their CPR bright red paint. A few orange and yellow maple trees in the background would have looks nice. Davenport, IA.
Here FEC 228 which only runs Monday and Tuesday mornings is seen running through St. Augustine with a single EMD motor pulling 5,000 feet of train and making it look easy
NMWA under new ownership CSX approaching Snakeroot rd in Pittsfield. Pulling a good size train of 52x0. Power was 305-316-310. With an early departure from NMJ I was able to chase them the whole way. EMD originally built a couple dozen SD70ACe-T4 demonstrator units. some were painted for and delivered to Union Pacific, BNSF, and Norfolk Southern. Two of these units, EMDX 1608 and EMDX 1609, have been at the Transportation Technology Center near Pueblo, but are now making their way west. The units were sitting near the North Yard tower on this afternoon, waiting to be added to UP's MNYGR to head west.

A BNSF SD40-2, GP60B, GP38-2, & another SD40-2 leads the BNSF L-CHI105 West past a well located puddle of water.
CP 281 was departing eastward at B12 Interlocking with a pair of CP SD60s and the last SOO SD60M. I would have rather had the SOO leader, but in the grand scheme of things, it really didn't matter. Standard cab EMD goodness is pretty damned cool.
A pre-dawn EMD extravaganza was going down on the Peoria Sub this day as a quartet of goodies rolled a SIPE passed the Henry grain elevator in the pre-dawn blue hour of a frozen winter morning.

East Jersey Railroad and Terminal Co. SW1500 no. 321B is seen hauling a cut of tank cars across Hook Rd as they finish switching the eastern portion of the iMTT facility on Constable Hook. The railroad operates mostly within the secure perimeter of the terminal, but ventures out across and along the public Hook Rd to access two outlying sections of the complex.
After chasing the 5127 West, I doubled back to catch a ESPCCAM empty out of Willmar. Caught the COLX empties at the US 12 bridge at Kerkhoven with a pair of worn Oakways. EMD 9031 West on Sept. 18, 1998.
A pair of SD40-2s have a pair of GP38-2s and 7 cars of freight in tow on Q326 as the train leaves Grand Rapids behind.
