Árboles, hasta 20 m de altura; copa ancha, umbeliforme. Corteza marrón grisácea. Ramitas notoriamente lenticeladas, glandulares viscosas cuando son jóvenes. Lámina foliar cordada, ca. 40 cm, abaxialmente denso a escasamente piloso, adaxialmente escasamente piloso, ápice agudo. Thyrses piramidal a estrechamente cónica, a 50 cm; cimas de 3 o 4 flores; pedúnculo de 1-2 cm, casi tan largo como los pedicelos. Cáliz superficialmente campanulado, ca. 1,5 cm, exterior tomentosa; lóbulos hasta 1/2 o más de la longitud del cáliz, ovado-oblongos. Corola púrpura, en forma de embudo-campanulada, de 5-7,5 cm, surcada ventralmente, por fuera glandular, por dentro glabra; extremidad ca. 4,5 cm de diámetro. Estambres de 2,5 cm. Ovario ovoide, glandular. Estilo más corto que los estambres. Cápsula ovoide, de 3-4,5 cm, densamente viscosa-glandular pilosa; pericarpio ca. 1 milímetro; lóbulos persistentes del cáliz planos. Semillas de 2,5-4 mm incluyendo ala. cultivadas o silvestres; por debajo de 1800 m. Corolla purple, funnelform-campanulate, 5-7.5 cm, ridged ventrally, outside glandular, inside glabrous; limb ca. 4.5 cm in diam. Stamens to 2.5 cm. Ovary ovoid, glandular. Style shorter than stamens. Capsule ovoid, 3-4.5 cm, densely viscid-glandular hairy; pericarp ca. 1 mm; persistent calyx lobes flat. Seeds 2.5-4 mm including wing. Cultivated or wild; below 1800 m. Rodalies a Lleida!!! Aquest servei R4 amb destinació Terrassa fa la seva aturada a l'estació de Sabadell Nord amb 13 minuts de retard, tenint un problema al display que l'envia cap a la llunyana estació de Lleida Pirineus (si espera passar per Calaf ho porta clar...). Més tard, el R4 que havia d'arribar a Manresa a les 20:25 ho ha fet amb 20 minuts de retard. Más tarde, el R4 que tenía que llegar a Manresa a las 20:25 lo ha hecho con 20 minutos de retraso. Un guarda de seguridad me ha comentado que la causa de los retrasos es el embudo que se forma en la salida del Hospitalet de Llobregat.

Pedicel ca. 2 cm, a 2.5 cm en fruto, pubescente y glandular-setose; lóbulos del cáliz estrechos, hasta 12 mm, densamente ciliados; corola estrechamente en forma de embudo, blanca o rojiza, 5–6 (–7) cm; lóbulos oblongos o oblongo-lanceolados, 2.8–3.5 cm; estambres 10, desiguales, más cortos que la corola, filamentos delgados, pubescentes debajo del medio; ovario oblongo, ca. Setose de 6 mm de color marrón amarillento denso; estilo más largo que los estambres, extendido, glabro a escasamente pubescente cerca de la base. Cápsula cilíndrica, con 6 ranuras, ligeramente curvada, hasta 55 mm, setose densamente con punta de glándula y pubescente. Florida. Bosques de valle abierto, laderas de montañas; 500–1300 m. China (Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang). En Iturraran se encuentra en la zona 3.

Capsule cylindric, 6-grooved, slightly curved, up to 55 mm, densely gland-tipped setose and pubescent. Fl. Open valley forests, mountain slopes; 500–1300 m. Dolina litoral formada por coalescencia de dolinas en embudo y chimeneas kársticas. Karst exhumado de la Formación Lagos- Portimão (calcarenitas miocenas). La erosión litoral del frente de acantilado cercano ha conectado el mar con la dolina por medio de un arco marino a través del cual penetra el agua, por lo que se deja sentir la influencia mareal y la acción del oleaje.

Tidewater sinkhole, Praia da Dédé o Secreta, São Rafael (Portugal)

 

Ancient supratidal sinkhole (coalescence of solution pipes and funnel-shaped sinkholes) that has been reached by the sea, due to marine erosion. The sinkhole is connected to the sea by a sea arch, so the water penetrates with tides and waves. Exhumated karst, Upper Miocene, Lagos-Portimão Fm, Algarve coast, southern Portugal.

This was the first USGS streamgage in the United States and it was established here in 1889. During the event, Mark Yuska, the District’s Operations Division chief, spoke about the importance of the USGS-Albuquerque District, Corps of Engineers partnership of more than 75 years. The creation date isn't the date I shot the footage, but when I compiled it. I need to dig out from my archives to figure out when this was really shot.

Another lighting variation while trying for a different look. I was looking for backlighting to make the flower look translucent, and put an SB600 in a snoot behind and underneath the flowers, and another SB600 in a softbox front left to provide some fill light. Both strobes triggered by the pop up flash on my D90 in commander mode. Strobes were in manual mode and I adjusted output until I got a look that I liked. This stuff is fun to play with and has a great effect on how the subjects look.

The beginning is too shaky, a result of having my telephoto extended on a windy day.

Palmera funcionalmente dioica. Tronco de hasta 25 m de altura, 25-40 cm de diámetro. Estípitea alta, cicatrices foliares elevadas, entrenudos anchos, marrones, fisuras longitudinales prominentes, talones del pecíolo retenidos en los 2 m más o menos bajos, de lo contrario las bases de las hojas son deciduas. Hojas 35-60 en una corona globosa; pecíolo 150-250 cm de largo, 10-20 mm de ancho, con bordes adaxialmente moderados, bordes lisos o con espinas curvas cortas y negras únicas apretadas en la porción proximal, una delgada franja longitudinal de color verde amarillento presente en la superficie abaxial; Fibras de la base de la hoja prominentes, finamente tejidas, similares a láminas, persistentes; lámina costapalmada, segmentada regularmente, ± circular, 100-130 cm de largo, cartácea, adaxialmente verde oscuro, brillante, abaxialmente ligeramente más clara, no cerosa; lámina dividida en el 49-69% de su longitud, con 80-100 segmentos, profundidad de la hendidura apical 50-63% de la longitud del segmento, lóbulos apicales agudos, pendulares; nervios paralelos, 8 a cada lado de la nervadura central; Venas transversas más delgadas que las paralelas. Fruit globose, 12- 22 mm in diam., dull reddish-brown to black, occasionally glaucous; epicarp with scattered lenticellular pores; suture line extends almost the length of the fruit; pedicel 2-3 mm long. Seed globose, 10-16 mm wide. Native australian palm. In iturraran is located in area 4.

 

This is a Cala lilly that I bought and exploited last year. It survived outside for the last 8 months, so I've decided to exploit it again.

 

Strobist info: For this image I wanted strong, hard edged shadows, and to accomplish that I used a bare YN560-II in a Honl snoot to provide that strong side lighting from camera right at about 2 o'clock. The strobe was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603 radio trigger in manual mode.

Strobist info: This was lit with an SB600 in a Honl snoot beneath the flower, and pointing up, to provide the glow in the center, and an SB700 in a softbox camera left to provide a little fill light. The strobes were triggered by the pop up flash of my D90 in commander mode. Power output was set to manual and adjusted until I got the look I wanted.

Los encierros de Cuéllar son una fiesta popular española declarada de Interés Turístico Nacional que se celebra el último fin de semana de agosto en la ciudad segoviana de Cuéllar (Castilla y León), y están considerados los encierros más antiguos de España, pues hasta el momento ninguna ciudad ha presentado un documento anterior al que dispone Cuéllar, fechado a principios del siglo XIII.

 

Primeramente los toros se sueltan en los corrales junto al rio y van acompañados por caballistas durante unos 5 kilometros cruzando pinares y cultivos de cereal. Posteriormente se les imprime velocidad en la bajada al embudo para que al entrar en las calles de Cuéllar sea un encierro rapido y limpio. Acaba en la plaza de toros.

The bulls racers are Cuéllar Spanish festival declared of National Tourist Interest held the last weekend of August in the town of Cuéllar Segovia (Castilla y León), and are considered the oldest bulls racers in Spain, as far no city has submitted a document prior to its disposal Cuellar, dated to the early thirteenth century.

 

First, the bulls are released into the pens along the river and are accompanied by horsemen for about 5 km across pine and cereal crops. Then the horsemen run fast with to the bulls to get speed at which the funnel into the streets of Cuéllar . The race must be fast and clean. It finished in the bullring.
