Datant du XVIe siècle, le nouveau fort a été construit dans l’objectif de renforcer la fortification de la ville. Cette structure imposante est encerclée par le canal qui assurait la protection de Livourne.

derrière les murs des remparts encore intacts, on peut admirer le paysage sur le canal et le centre historique. La promenade nous amène dans un charmant jardin en plein cœur du château

Il nuovo forte, risalente al XVI secolo, fu costruito per rafforzare la fortificazione della città. Questa imponente struttura è circondata dal canale che proteggeva Livorno.

Dietro le mura dei bastioni, ancora intatte, si può ammirare il paesaggio del canale e del centro storico. La passeggiata ci porta in un incantevole giardino nel cuore del castello.

El nuevo fuerte data del siglo XVI y se construyó para reforzar la fortificación de la ciudad. Esta imponente estructura está rodeada por el canal que protegía a Livorno.

Detrás de los muros de las murallas, que siguen intactos, se puede admirar el paisaje del canal y el centro histórico. El paseo nos lleva a un encantador jardín en el corazón del castillo

Saint-Cado et sa célèbre maison aux volets bleus

Avant de commencer votre balade, admirez la fameuse petite maison aux volets bleus posée sur l'îlot rocheux de Nichtarguer. Surnommée aussi la maison de l'huître, elle était autrefois la demeure d’un gardien de parcs ostréicoles et de sa famille.

Aujourd’hui inhabitée, cette maison invite à la rêverie et donne envie d’y séjourner pour les vacances d’été. Vous croiserez sûrement quelques peintres ou photographes immortalisant le paysage et l’histoire légendaire de ce petit coin de terre, devenu un des clichés les plus célèbres de Bretagne. Depuis le quai, profitez d’un cadre magique pour contempler de magnifiques couchers de soleil.

La légende de Saint-Cado

Selon la légende, Saint-Cado voulait construire un pont pour relier l'île de la Ria d'Etel au pays. Mais faute de moyens, un jour, il fut visité par le diable. Ce dernier lui offrit son aide à condition qu'il reçoive l'âme de la première créature à traverser le pont.

Saint-Cado accepta et le démon créa la structure de pierre en une nuit. Tôt le matin, Saint-Cado a attiré un chat à travers le pont. Le diable ne s'y attendait pas, mais c'était comme ça !

Promenade romantique à Saint-Cado

Partez à la découverte de cet îlot plein de mystères, relié par un pont en pierre et accessible à pied. Vous pourrez y découvrir de charmantes petites maisons de pêcheurs et approcher quelques monuments religieux.

Construite par les moines du prieuré au 12e siècle, une somptueuse chapelle romane dédiée à Saint-Cado trône sur la place centrale. Dans le village, découvrez aussi le calvaire orné de sculptures et la fontaine régulièrement submergée par la marée.

Empruntez le sentier en contrebas de la chapelle et faites le tour de l'île à pied. Le circuit vous offre un joli point de vue sur la rivière d’Etel entre parcs ostréicoles, forêts et petites anses où naviguent des embarcations colorées.

Saint-Cado and its famous house with blue shutters

Before starting your walk, admire the famous little house with blue shutters on the rocky islet of Nichtarguer. Also known as the Oyster House, it was once the home of an oyster farm keeper and his family.

The legend of Saint-Cado

According to legend, Saint-Cado wanted to build a bridge to connect the island of Ria d'Etel to the country. But for lack of funds, one day he was visited by the devil. The latter offered his help on condition that he received the soul of the first creature to cross the bridge.

Saint-Cado agreed and the demon created the stone structure overnight. Early in the morning, Saint-Cado lured a cat across the bridge. The devil did not expect it, but it was like that!

Discover this islet full of mysteries, linked by a stone bridge and accessible on foot. You can discover charming little fishermen's houses and approach some religious monuments.

Built by the monks of the priory in the 12th century, a sumptuous Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint-Cado stands in the central square. In the village, also discover the Calvary decorated with sculptures and the fountain regularly submerged by the tide.

Take the path below the chapel and go around the island on foot. The circuit offers you a nice view of the Etel river between oyster parks, forests and small coves where colorful boats sail.

En Grèce sur l'île de Thirassia.

Port a Sec de Polynésie Française a Maupiti Système ingénieux des polynésiens pour mettre leur embarcation au sec. Les deux roues servent à tourner les deux barres horizontales sur lequel s’enroule les câbles qui font monter ou descendre le bateau .

Les pointus de Sanary se sont mis aux couleurs de Noël, le spectacle est aussi dans le port avec des embarcations parées de lumière. De quoi ravir les visiteurs, qui chaque année viennent photographier ces belles embarcations provençales, décorées avec soin par leurs propriétaires.

Après un parcours inédit en barque le long de la Rivière Plane, la voûte s’élève, les parois s’élargissent et laissent apparaître le Lac de la Pluie… Cette zone d’infiltration permanente est une vision unique incroyable. Le plafond plus fin et plus fissuré laisse passer les gouttes de pluie venant de la surface qui alimentent inlassablement ce lac souterrain.

Chargées en calcaire dissout, elles le redéposent sous forme de stalactites qui, au fil des siècles, dessinent un décor spectaculaire.

Le quartier de la Venezia

Cet ancien quartier, à la fois maritime et industriel, est considéré comme la partie de la ville la plus intéressante et la plus pittoresque à visiter. La « Petite Venise » de Livourne (parfois aussi appelé la « Venezia Nuova« ) s’étend principalement au nord de la grande Place de la République (Piazza della Republica). Mais un canal réapparaît du côté opposé après s’être poursuivi, en sous-sol, sous la Place de la République elle-même. Off the small port of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, I saw the Tatihou island - Manche - Normandy - France - Europe

L’île Tatihou, au large du petit port de Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue et à deux pas de Barfleur, est le domaine privilégié des oiseaux marins, des passionnés d’histoire, de nature et d’environnement.

Vous pourrez y découvrir le musée maritime, les jardins et l’atelier de charpente navale où sont restaurés les bateaux traditionnels. L’île Tatihou doit son nom aux Vikings puisque Tatihou associe un nom noroit (hou : terre entourée d’eau) et un nom propre (Tat).

La traversée entre Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue et l’île Tatihou se fait à marée haute comme à marée basse à bord du bateau amphibie. Cette drôle d’embarcation est capable de rouler sur le fond de la mer !

La tour Vauban et le fort

La construction des fortifications débute en 1689 après la Bataille de la Hougue et l'inspection de Vauban. Construite en 1694, la tour Vauban est depuis 2008 inscrite au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, tout comme la tour de la Hougue. Un lazaret, édifié en 1720 dans le but d'éviter la propagation de la peste, complète ce patrimoine maritime. Ces bâtiments sont classés au titre des Monuments Historiques.

Le musée maritime

Ouvert en 1992, il a été créé pour accueillir le mobilier archéologique provenant des épaves de la Hougue (bataille de mai-juin 1692). A ce titre, il est inscrit sur la liste des musées contrôlés par la Direction des Musées de France depuis novembre 1991. Désormais on y aborde également d'autres thèmes : l'histoire de la pêche et de l'ostréiculture, l'histoire naturelle du littoral, l'archéologie terrestre, les beaux-arts et les fonds anciens. Des expositions temporaires sont également proposées par le musée.

Le jardin maritime

Sur près de sept hectares, à l’abri du lazaret, les jardins de Tatihou présentent les plantes du littoral normand mais aussi celles des bords de mer plus lointains... La meilleure période pour les admirer se situe entre le début du mois d’avril et la fin du mois de juin. Toutefois, la diversité et la variété des végétaux en fait un lieu attractif toute l’année.

A découvrir : un jardin d'acclimatation, un jardin botanique et un grand jardin maritime.

La réserve ornithologique

Trois hectares ont été établis en réserve ornithologique en 1990. Au fil de l'année, plus de 150 espèces différentes d'oiseaux nicheurs, migrateurs ou visiteurs occasionnels peuvent être observés sur l'île Tatihou.

A voir aussi : un atelier de charpente, une halle à bateaux, une chapelle, la maison des douaniers...

Un grand projet pour l'île

Lors de votre visite de l’île Tatihou, vous remarquerez que des travaux sont en cours. Quelques explications…

L’île Tatihou recèle un patrimoine naturel et architectural exceptionnel et protégé. Mais il semble insuffisamment valorisé. Le projet, démarré en 2020, a pour objectif de mettre en valeur cette grande richesse patrimoniale mais aussi d’améliorer votre expérience lors de votre visite ou votre séjour sur l’île.

Pour se faire, différentes actions vont voir le jour d’ici à 2022 :

- Les hébergements et lieux de restauration vont être réhabilités et améliorés. L’île Tatihou pourra ainsi accueillir les scolaires dans de meilleures conditions. Les visiteurs pourront séjourner dans des hébergements aux gammes hôtelières variées, allant du village vacances à l'hôtel 4 étoiles, et déguster des produits locaux dans le restaurant de l’île.

- Les contenus du musée maritime vont être revus et le programme des expositions temporaires densifié.

- Les jardins vont connaître un réaménagement avec un nouveau parcours naturel, sensoriel, artistique et ludique.

- Une maison d’accueil va voir le jour pour recevoir, guider et sensibiliser les visiteurs.

- Les cheminements vont être repensés pour préserver le patrimoine naturel.

- Un comptoir touristique et culturel va être créé sur le port de Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. Les visiteurs y trouveront de l’information touristique et achèteront leur billet pour la traversée vers l’île. Entrer dans ce lieu, sera votre première immersion avant la découverte de Tatihou.

Les travaux se termineront au printemps 2022. Leur but ? Que votre visite ou votre séjour soit plus agréable, tout en protégeant le patrimoine naturel et architectural de l’île Tatihou.

Tatihou Island, off the small port of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue and a stone's throw from Barfleur, is the privileged domain of seabirds, history, nature and environment enthusiasts.

Here you can discover the maritime museum, the gardens and the naval framework workshop where the traditional boats are restored. Tatihou Island owes its name to the Vikings since Tatihou associates a noroit name (hou: land surrounded by water) and a proper name (Tat).

The crossing between Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue and Tatihou Island is done at high tide as at low tide aboard the amphibious boat. This funny boat is capable of rolling on the bottom of the sea!

The Vauban tower and the fort

The construction of the fortifications began in 1689 after the Battle of La Hougue and the inspection of Vauban. Built in 1694, the Vauban tower has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, as has the Hougue tower. A lazaretto, built in 1720 in order to prevent the spread of the plague, completes this maritime heritage. These buildings are classified as Historical Monuments.

Maritime museum

Opened in 1992, it was created to accommodate archaeological material from the wrecks of La Hougue (battle of May-June 1692). As such, it has been on the list of museums controlled by the Direction des Musées de France since November 1991. From now on, other themes are also addressed: the history of fishing and oyster farming, natural history. of the coast, terrestrial archeology, fine arts and ancient collections. Temporary exhibitions are also offered by the museum.

The maritime garden

On nearly seven hectares, sheltered from the lazaretto, the gardens of Tatihou present the plants of the Norman coast but also those of the more distant seaside ... The best period to admire them is between the beginning of the month of April and the end of June. However, the diversity and variety of plants makes it an attractive place all year round.

To discover: an acclimatization garden, a botanical garden and a large maritime garden.

The ornithological reserve

Three hectares were established as an ornithological reserve in 1990. Over the year, more than 150 different species of nesting, migrating or occasional visitors can be observed on Tatihou Island.

Also worth seeing: a carpentry workshop, a boat hall, a chapel, the customs house ...

A great project for the island

As you visit Tatihou Island, you will notice that construction is underway. Some explanations…

Tatihou Island has an exceptional and protected natural and architectural heritage. But it seems insufficiently valued. The project, started in 2020, aims to showcase this great heritage but also to improve your experience during your visit or stay on the island.

To do so, various actions will be launched by 2022:

- Accommodation and places to eat will be rehabilitated and improved. Tatihou Island will thus be able to accommodate schoolchildren in better conditions. Visitors can stay in accommodation with a variety of hotel ranges, from holiday villages to 4-star hotels, and taste local products in the island restaurant.

- The contents of the maritime museum will be reviewed and the program of temporary exhibitions increased.

- The gardens will undergo a redevelopment with a new natural, sensory, artistic and fun route.

- A reception center will be opened to receive, guide and educate visitors.

- The paths will be redesigned to preserve the natural heritage.

- A tourist and cultural counter will be created in the port of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. Visitors will find tourist information there and buy their ticket for the crossing to the island. Entering this place will be your first immersion before discovering Tatihou.

The work will end in spring 2022. Their goal? May your visit or stay be more enjoyable, while protecting the natural and architectural heritage of Tatihou Island.

Du moins c'est ce qui est écrit...

Manakara (Madagascar) - Généralement les pirogues avec ou sans voile sont de toutes petites embarcations qui n’accueillent qu’un seul pêcheur. La pirogue sur la photo est donc atypique avec sa grande voile et un équipage de quatre personnes. L’embarcation revient de la haute-mer où les marins ont pêché toute la nuit avec de très grands filets. C’est la taille du filet qui détermine le nombre de pêcheurs, afin de pouvoir le remonter à bord avec plus de facilité. Les bidons jaunes dans la pirogue servent de flotteurs pour maintenir la partie supérieure du filet à la surface.

Downwind

Manakara (Madagascar) - Generally the canoes with or without sail are very small boats which usually only accommodate one fisherman. The canoe in the photo is therefore atypical with its large sail and a crew of four. The boat is returning from the high seas where the sailors have been fishing all night with very large nets. It is the size of the net that determines the number of fishermen, in order to be able to bring it on board with more ease.

Eccoci all'interno del forte, da dove scopriamo "La Petite Venise"

Varanasi (Inde) - Un matin, sur le Gange à Varanasi. Cette fois nous sommes fin 2016. Les pèlerins bravent le froid pour faire une balade en barque à moteur sur le fleuve sacré. Je suis également sur une embarcation. Il ne se passe rien. La lumière n'est pas éclatante et la brume est à couper au couteau. Je désespère de prendre une image intéressante. Subitement, les pèlerins jètent du riz et du pain dans l'eau, attirant une nuée de mouettes affamées. Et un rayon de soleil perce miraculeusement les nuages et la brume, réchauffant la scène. Je n'ai plus qu'à monter la vitesse de mon appareil photo pour figer les oiseaux et pour neutraliser le mouvements du bateau qui s'avance rapidement vers moi.

J’augmente aussi la sensibilité pour avoir un diaphragme m'autorisant une bonne profondeur de champ. Je vise et déclenche deux fois. Sur la première photo, une mouette cache la tête du pèlerin qui est de dos et filme avec son smartphone. La seconde, vous l'avez sous les yeux.

Varanasi (India) - One morning, on the Ganges in Varanasi. This time we are at the end of 2016. The pilgrims brave the cold to take a motorboat ride on the sacred river. I am also on a boat. Nothing happens. The light is not bright and I despair of taking an interesting picture. Suddenly, the pilgrims throw rice and bread into the water, attracting a swarm of hungry seagulls. And a ray of sunlight miraculously pierces the clouds and mist, warming the scene. I just have to increase the speed of my camera to freeze the birds and to neutralize the movements of the boat which is advancing rapidly towards me.

I also increase the sensitivity to have a diaphragm allowing me a good depth of field. I aim and shoot twice. In the first photo, a seagull hides the head of the pilgrim who is from behind and films with his smartphone. The second, you have it in front of you.

A ma décharge, je faisais mon cadre, alors que la pirogue dans laquelle je me trouvait tournait sur elle même, empêchant une stabilité suffisante pour composer sereinement l’image. J’ai dû me contorsionner pour compenser le mouvement rotatif de l’embarcation. J’ai déclenché trop vite. Impossible de refaire la photo, l’enfant ayant aussitôt tourné la tête. Il faut savoir parfois accepter quelques imperfections.

Manakara (Madagascar) - This photo has a small defect: the point has not been made on the face of the child. To my credit, I was doing my frame, while my canoe in which I was embarked turned on itself, preventing sufficient stability to calmly compose the image. I had to contort myself to compensate for the rotating motion of the boat. I triggered too quickly. Impossible to redo the image, the child having immediately turned his head. Sometimes you have to accept some imperfections.

Manakara (Madagascar) - Contrairement aux apparences, il ne s’agit pas d’un bateau pour enfants. Cette pirogue à voile unique et sans balancier est destinée à la pêche en mer, aussi surprenant que cela puisse paraître.

Dans cette partie de la côte du Sud-Est, les embarcations avec ou sans voiles sont souvent de taille très modeste. Ce sentiment de miniaturisation est renforcé par la présence de la voile.

The wind in the sail

Manakara (Madagascar) - Contrary to appearances, this is not a children's boat. This unique sailing canoe without an outrigger is intended for sea fishing, as surprising as it may seem.

In this part of the South-East coast, boats with or without sails are often very modest in size. This feeling of miniaturization is reinforced by the presence of the sail.

Champasak( Laos) - Quand il ne se passe pas grand chose, il faut s’armer de patience au cas où une scène intéressante se présenterait. Mais à ce petit jeu on peut attendre longtemps. On peut alors utiliser les objets à sa disposition pour composer une scène qui ne vient pas d’elle-même. C’est ce que j’ai fait avec cette photo. L’homme qui écope sa pirogue qui prend l’eau, je l’avais photographié sous plusieurs angles, mais la photo restait désespérément sans relief. Je repartais un peu déçu et frustré, quand je suis passé devant ces nasses pourtant bien visibles, mais j’étais trop concentré sur mon piroguier. En me retournant une dernière fois, j’ai aperçu à travers ces casiers, l’homme dont l’embarcation semblait toujours se prendre pour « le tonneau de Danaïdes ». Et là, la scène s’est imposée d’elle-même. Je n’ai eu qu’à me rapprocher et me baisser légèrement pour composer mon cadre… Et attendre que l’homme se relève.

Manakara (Madagascar) - Pour faire des photos, une pirogue est bien utile pour circuler sur la lagune de Manakara. Elle permet d’accéder à des lieux reculés, difficiles d’accès et d’obtenir des angles de prises de vues intéressants.

Mais lorsqu’on a recours à une telle embarcation, rien ne serait possible sans les piroguiers. Ils connaissent le secteur comme leur poche et acceptent volontiers de se rapprocher d’une rive où d’une autre pirogue pour faire des photos.

Cet homme est le propriétaire de la pirogue. Le commandant de bord en quelque sorte. Il avait un autre piroguier, son fils, sous ses ordres. Ces deux hommes sont avant tout des pêcheurs. Mais lorsqu’ils peuvent louer leur force de travail à des touristes, c’est tout bénéfice pour eux. Une demi-journée à les balader sur la lagune peut rapporter jusqu’à trois fois plus qu’une journée de pêche. Et c’est moins dangereux qu’une sortie en pleine mer.

Négombo (Sri Lanka) - A une quarantaine de kilomètres au Nord de la capitale Colombo, Négombo plonge le voyageur dans une faille spatio-temporelle, grâce aux « oruwas », des barques de pêche à voile. Ces voiliers à balancier unique semblent sortis tout droit d’une époque révolue.

Pourtant ces voiliers traditionnels du Sri Lanka, sont toujours utilisés en ce XXIè siècle. Les plus anciens sont en bois de jacquier, mais depuis quelques années, on commence à en construire en fibre de verre. Autant dire que ces embarcations typiques ont encore un bel avenir.

Il est à noter que les voiles sont en coton. Afin de permettre à l’eau de ruisseler pour ne pas alourdir l’embarcation, elles sont enduites d’une mixture végétale, lui donnant cette étrange couleur.

Tangalle (Sri Lanka) - Le thon est un peu l’or des mers pour le Sri Lanka. Il est le premier pays exportateur de thon frais dans l’Union européenne. Mais devant la pêche illégale, l’Union européenne avait mis un terme à ses importations du Sri Lanka en 2014. Devant ce manque à gagner, les autorités de l’île ont finalement accepté de mettre en place un véritable système de contrôle pour la pêche en haute mer. Depuis 2016, le Sri Lanka a pu reprendre ses exportations de thon frais.

Chaque année le pays exporte 18.000 tonnes de poisson frais pour une valeur de 300.000 US.$ (chiffres de 2016 selon une étude de Fish Life).

Le Sri Lanka dispose d’une flotte de 1.600 bateaux de haute-mer et 2.200 embarcation de pêche côtière pour 600.000 marins-pêcheurs embarqués.

Champong-Chhnang (Cambodge) - J'aurais préféré avoir un élément humain avec ces deux chiens. Mais les propriétaires de la barge étaient absents, probablement partis vendre du poisson en ville. Ça ne se voit pas trop sur la photo, mais ils n'étaient pas amicaux et grognaient en me voyant approcher d'un peu trop près de leur habitation flottante. Quand je me suis éloigné, ils se sont mis à aboyer. Je ne peux pas leur en vouloir, ils faisaient leur boulot de gardiens.

Pour cette scène en légère contre-plongée, je ne suis pas dans l’eau, mais allongé dans la barque. Cette position m’était imposée pour éviter d’avoir dans la partie supérieure de mon cadre, la toile du parasol planté au milieu de l’embarcation pour nous protéger du soleil.
