Title: Water Elemental

Self Portrait with the help of Cynthia Kannan

This image was a fun one to shoot. I have started to revisit the concepts I had for an elements project a few years ago but never started. I did do a project with elements but I shot them in studio inside different glass containers like rocks dirt, smoke, ice, grass, color, etc. My original concept was a portrait project and I wanted to finish what I started. I picked myself for the subject of my water image because I feel personally connected to that particular element over any other. The freedom of water and the flowing the magic is just undeniable.

I didn't want to just photograph a subject in the water and call it done. I wanted to incorporate a surreal element into the shot as well. I started by just adding in more water slashes but that wasn't enough. I added the second set of ams to better fit with my fantasy dreamlike theme. Superimposing images together is an important aspect of my work and I am to improve with each image I create. Connecting human and nature through the elements is the main concept for this project. Most of my work does incorporate Nature in some way, this project should be a more literal representation of that.

My Name is Amanda Meyer, I am 22 years old and I am a fine art portrait photographer. I am most inspired by Annie Leibovitz and Jerry Uelsmann. I am a digital artist because I like to create surreal fantasy like imagery by using bright colors and through photo montage and manipulation. I am also inspired by nature and incorporate a lot of nature and the connection man has to nature in my work. I also work traditionally with a 4x5 Toyo Monorail. This traditional facet of my work highlights fine detail portraits and double exposer techniques in camera and in post. The majority of my double exposure consist of a human silhouette and nature. I have a degree in art and photography (traditional and digital) and am continuing my education. My goal is an artist is to work professionally as a Fine Art Portrait Photographer and to show and sell my personal work.
