Dick Smith Electronics at Westfield Whitford City Shopping Centre at Hillarys, in Perth's outer northern suburbs. This was following the receiver's sale with the announcement made on February 25, 2016 that all stores (301 in Australia and 62 in New Zealand) would be closing over the following eight weeks with sale starting the following day February 26.
These shots were taken early April 2016 around half way through the closure process. Notably Dick Smith branded TV's have been more difficult to sell with customers wary of warranty issues due to the retailer's demise. The Dick Smith online business has been bought by Ruslan Kogan and was intended to be relaunched in June 2016, but instead was done after closure of the final stores on May 3.
Some old equipment that I did a trade deal back in the 70's. The tall rack on the right was a complete Collins HF CW, Phone Transmitter used by the Galveston Coast Guard back in the early days. Not sure of the model. Wish I had kept it, it would be worth its weight in gold today.

How did the owner of this archaic radar station persuade Hippo Hardware to take it off his hands? Could it be that he had some especially tasty architectural fragments or coveted hardware?
Anyway, it's there now.
It's too modern to lend itself to a Steampunk project. The most obvious reuse would take advantage of the goggle-like viewing station for displaying visual art of some kind. The knobs, switches and buttons would allow the viewer to modify the image or change the content. The art would need to be pretty darn compelling to justify the time and expense of converting the device.
A cheaper alternative would be to place a visual art object inside the hood. The controls would adjust the lighting. The problem is that unless there were multiple stations that each offered a different experience the impact on the viewer would be minimal.
This is probably much like the decision tree others have conjured when contemplating what they could do with this contraption.
Let's just call it a white hippo and be done with it.

Our plumbing department will coordinate refinishing with local companies. The hardware department is able to darken, refinish, clean, and rebuild.
