Originally, I wanted to do a macro series of every Intel Pentium Processor chip that has been created, or perhaps more of a chronology of computer processing chips, but I was unable to obtain them in time for a class project I was doing this for. So, these are various parts to electronic devices such as remote controls, alarm clocks, computer keyboards, etc. I used a 60mm macro w/ an extension tube and primarily lit them from behind with a flash gun and filled in the front with on-cam flash.
My 1957 vintage Dynakit (Dynaco) Stereo 70 tube amp is back on the work bench after developing a problem with a red plate (anode) on one of the EL34 output tubes in the right channel. I rebuilt the amp in 2003 and it has worked for 11 years without a problem.
one major improvement is the new glass cockpit which also enhances flight safety. the digital cockpit instruments form part of a cutting-edge, fully integrated avionics suite. the Do 228NG is the first aircraft in its class that has been certified with innovative electronics of this kind. on four large displays (two primary flight displays, and two multifunction displays including engine indication) they have all key flight data at their fingertips at all times. in combination with the optional autopilot system, the digital cockpit is also certified for single-pilot IFR flights.

I soldered wires between the pins of the USB socket and the next component in the circuit. Two of the pins are shorted to ground and I connected them to the ground on that CON2 header... maybe some secret serial header for developing the microcontroller software.
The full story (for a twitter friend!):
When the USB socket came off it tore up the solder pads that it was connected to, so I gave up on reconnecting it and let it sit for six months. Later, I had the idea of following the traces back to the next component!
So, the USB socket has 4 pins, Ground, +5V, and two data pins (tx and rx right? (or am I wrong?)). Ground was the easiest, because it could be soldered to any grounded place on the board, I used the ground pin on the CON2 header (you can tell because it connects to the giant green area which connects to the casing of the USB socket.
Following the other three pins' traces leads to three tiny surface mount resistors, so I soldered pickup wires to each one.
By far the hardest part of this was soldering hookup wire to the TINY pins on the USB connector, the pins are very small since they solder straight on the board underneath. I used some tape to help keep the solder joint together and insulate them from each other.
After the pins were connected I tested the nanokontrol and it worked (phew) so I soldered the USB socket back onto the board and then locked everything down with tape. I added some foam inside the case to squish everything together tightly so that it wouldn't break again.
So far--- everything is ok and I've performed about 25 times with the nanokontrol! (I broke it before I had even one performance when it was new......)
The PCBs for SelWX have arrived! I don't have the parts on hand to start soldering them yet, and not much time due to work, but... soon!

Audio DIY came to prominence in the 50s to 60s, as audio reproduction was relatively new and the technology "complex," audio reproduction equipment, and in particular high performance equipment, was not offered at the retail level. Kits and designs were available for consumers to build their own equipment. Famous vacuum tube kits from Dynaco, Heathkit, and McIntosh, as well as solid state (transistor) kits from Hafler allowed for consumers to build their own hi fidelity systems. Books and magazines were published which explained new concepts regarding the design and operation of vacuum tube and (later) transistor circuits.
While audio equipment has become easily accessible in the current day and age, there still exists an interest in building one's own equipment, including amplifiers, speakers, preamplifiers, and even CD players and turntables. Today, a network of companies, parts vendors, and on-line communities exist to foster this interest. DIY is especially active in loudspeaker and in tube amplification. Both are relatively simple to design and fabricate without access to sophisticated industrial equipment. Both enable the builder to pick and choose between various available parts, on matters of price as well as quality, allow for extensive experimentation, and offer the chance to use exotic or highly labor-intensive solutions, which would be expensive for a manufacturer to implement, but only require personal labor by the DIYer, which is a source of satisfaction to them.
