I'm afraid this was fairly typical of the condition of most of the place back when I visited. Careful where you walk - I almost tripped and lost my footing a couple of times myself. Surely the liquidators have seen that Morgan and Morgan commercial concerning people falling in stores and becoming multi-millionaires making their law firm lots of money as a result!

WEEK 51 – OB WM, Set III
Instead of an electronics desk, the Olive Branch Walmart just has two checkouts, kinda like you usually see in the garden center. Of course, these checkouts are the old black ones just like up front! The poster features a similarly old photograph of Don Robertson, the store manager, wearing his old Wal-Mart nametag.

Found these pretty blue gizmos while scavenging in my husband's electronics stuff. I'm told they are bypass capacitors for suppressing power supply noise. He's been building computers and other stuff since he was a young boy, and now that my son has similar interests, the volume of stuff has gotten way bigger. They build my son's desktop gaming computer last year, amongst other things.

WEEK 1 – Horn Lake Target, Lights Out... Again
My actual first shot of the store once the backup lights turned on was this one, facing the left side wall where the electronics desk is. Chances are we were kinda moving around a bit, unsure what exactly to do. I have a feeling everyone else in the store had the same confusedness. There was also a bit of nervousness, as indicated by the rather loud screams that went out as the lights shut off!

The valve (or tube) kicked started the world of electronics in the earlier part of the 20th century, but it wasn't until the invention of the transistor by Bell Labs in the late 40s did it really take off. Then when Jean Hoerni and Fairchild invented the planar manufacturing process, the integration of many transistors using fundamentally a photographic reduction deposition and growth process, did the world of Integrated Circuits start. The transistor is now pretty much taken for granted, but it kick started and enabled the modern world.
