In the 2023 Electrify Tech Camp, students learned to:

*Explore the components of an electric vehicle

*Construct a device run on solar energy

*Maximize a system’s power efficiency

*Use an electronic circuit to channel power

*Scavenge energy from the environment

Electrify Tech Camps is offered by the Electrical & Computer Engineering division at the University of Michigan.

They could at least have used the power for a fan or something. Perhaps its odor less only on a bright clear day.

Hyundai just revealed its all-new 2025 IONIQ 5 N at AutoMobility LA, which represents N brand’s electric vision and a fresh opportunity for performance enthusiasts. The fiery IONIQ 5 N hatchback hits 0 to 60 mph in about 3.25 seconds (w/ N Launch Control and Grin Boost function utilized) while representing the first electrified ride from the Hyundai N brand.

Impressively, its electric motors spin up to 21,000 RPM to provide an estimated 641 horsepower (478 kW) with N Grin Boost engaged. N Active Sound + works collectively to deliver a futuristic electrified sound with ICE-like engine and exhaust tunes for a more engaging experience behind the wheel. Available at Hyundai dealers in March 2024, paint schemes will be offered in Performance Blue Matte, Abyss Black Pearl, Atlas White, Soultronic Orange Pearl, and a later availability for Ecotronic Gray Matte.

In partnership with the Hinatuan Partnership for Peoples Empowerment (HIPPE) and funded by Johanniter International Assistance, ICSC’s RECharge Pilipinas team successfully coached 29 participants from the municipalities of Malimono, Placer, San Francisco, Tagana-an, Dinagat Island, Bacuag and Surigao City in Surigao del Norte in assembling portable solar batteries - or TekPaks - during the second SolarScholars Training held at Surigao City from March 28 to 30, 2022.

These communities located in the Hinatuan Passage were badly hit by super typhoon Odette last December 16, 2021. Without electricity from the damaged power grid, local governments had a hard time powering life-saving responses for affected families.

Responders from the municipalities of Bacuag, Claver and Gigaquit who benefitted from the first Solar Scholars training last November 2021, however, had a different story to tell. They used the TekPaks to electrify command posts, evacuation centers and relief operations in the wake of Odette. TekPaks lent by Salcedo, Eastern Samar Mayor Melchor Mergal to HIPPE were also deployed in other municipalities providing renewable energy to affected LGU operation centers.

In the face of frequent extreme weather events, the LGUs and communities under the Hinatuan Passage Development Alliance (HIPADA), have realized that it is time to integrate renewable energy into disaster response and community development. They are now working together in collaboration with HIPPE, ICSC, and Johanniter International Assistance to build back a better and brighter future for all.
