Elk jaar zie ik ze bloeien hier in de binnenstad waar de ficus bomen tegen de muur groeien , kon er nooit achter komen wat de naam nu van deze prachtig bloem was , maar ben er nu eindelijk achter, heb ook nooit geweten dat een ficus bloemen kon hebben

De bloemen worden omsloten door een structuur die op een vrucht lijkt. De werkelijke vruchten zijn tot 2 cm lang, eivormig en worden rood tijdens rijping.

Every year I see them blooming here in the city center where the ficus trees grow against the wall, could never find out what the name of this beautiful flower was, but am finally now aware, never knew that a ficus could have flowers to have

The flowers are enclosed by a structure that looks like a fruit. The actual fruits are up to 2 cm long, egg-shaped and turn red during ripening.

Macro Monday: #Curves

Width of the frame: 7,5 cm / 2,9 inches

I was quite lost in curves, to be honest, and for quite some time without a clue what to do for the theme. As usual, of course ;-) In the end it was the silver chain (super nice bokeh!) or the rubber band. The rubber band "won", because you all know how much I like sci-fi, and this looked, again, like something that could have been spotted by Lieutenant Uhura on the "viewscreen" of the USS Enterprise (Kirk: "On screen! Maximum magnification!").

The inevitable tiny dust particles (the true antimatter of every home!) that settled on the mirror immediately after I had cleaned it also resembled stars so nicely that I decided to only remove some bigger and definitely "un-starry" pieces of fluff. I held a black rubber foamsheet above the mirror (dull side up, or rather down, because the glittery side, which usually works so well to create a starry background, looked too noisy this time) for the dark background. Shot composed as HDR from a three image bracketing in LR. Processed in Luminar 3, where I enhanced the small and medium details, darkened the background with the "Advanced Contrast" filter, and this time also experimented with the "Adjustable Gradient" filter.

Verloren im Weltall...

auf einer Endlosschleife ohne Ausgang...

Wieder so ein vermeintlich einfaches Thema, für das mir erst mal nichts einfallen wollte. Immerhin kam mir dann doch noch die Eingebung und ich musste mich dann sogar zwischen mehreren Gummiband-"Skulpturen" und der Silberkette (tolles Ketten-Bokeh!) entscheiden. Dass es das (Alien-)grüne Gummiband geworden ist, liegt natürlich an meiner Vorliebe für Science Fiction. Denn dies könnte mal wieder ein "unbekanntes Objekt" im All sein, das der Enterprise unter Captain James T. Kirk in die Quere kommt ("Auf den Schirm! Volle Vergrößerung!").

Fotografiert auf einem Spiegel, über den ich eine Moosgummiplatte als dunklen Hintergrund gehalten habe, dieses Mal mit der matten Seite sichtbar, weil die Glitzerseite, die sich sonst hervorragend als Weltall-Hintergrund eignet, zu unruhig wirkte. Dafür habe ich dieses Mal echten "Sternenstaub" dabei, denn die Staubkörnchen, die sich unvermeidlicherweise sofort nach dem Blankpolieren wieder auf der Spiegeloberfläche niederließen, gaben hier erstaunlich gute "Sterne" ab, sodass ich nur den einen oder anderen größeren Fussel wegretuschieren musste. HDR aus einer Belichtungsreihe von drei Fotos, in LR zusammengefügt, und entwickelt in Luminar mit folgenden Filtern: Details (klein und mittel), erweiterter Kontrast und anpassbarer Verlauf.

Und natürlich haben Kirk und Co am Ende doch den Weg aus dieser Endlosschleife in die Freiheit gefunden, vorher gab es aber noch folgenden Wortwechsel (Originalzitat aus "Das Spukschloss im Weltall", 1967):

Kirk: "Wie kommen wir nur hier weg. ... Haben Sie eine Idee, Mr. Spock?"

Spock: "Tja, Ideen habe ich schon. Aber mit der Durchführung hapert es im Moment."

For Macro Monday's "Relaxation" theme. A really tough one ;-) Three short rubber bands in the moment of transition from being taut to returning to their relaxed state. I'm not really happy with this, and it is the third capture in a row for MMs that involves motion blur, but was even less happy with my other two ideas / shots, so here it is. Width: between 1,37795 and 1,77165 inches (3,5 - 4,5 cm)

Für das Macro-Monday-Thema "Relexation". Das dritte MM-Foto in Folge mit Bewegungsunschärfe, drei sehr kurze Gummibänder, im Moment des Loslassens und der Rückkehr in den entspannten Zustand. Ich bin nicht richtig zufrieden damit, aber meine beiden anderen Ideen / Fotos haben mir noch weniger gefallen...

Ist das nicht ein Wunderwerk der Natur?

So ein Baum kann eine Höhe 20 bis 40 Meter (selten bis 60 Meter) erreichen und einen Stammdurchmesser bis zu 2 Meter haben. Dieses Exemplar muss schon sehr alt sein. Der Durchmesser seines Stammes misst einiges mehr als 2 Meter.

These living bridges are created by the War-Khasis, a sub-tribe of the Khasis who dominate this region of India and beyond. They cut down a betel nut tree and split it in half. They hollow out a foot path in the trunk and lay it across the space they wish to bridge, usually a stream. They take the secondary roots of the Ficus elastica tree, which come out of the ground and grow aerially in the moist climate. They train these roots to grow across this hollowed out trunk. The roots attach and grow horizontally to the other side and attach themselves into the far bank. Along the way, the roots are trained to grow where needed, forming hand rails, and added support. It is an act of patience as it takes 15 years for it to become fully usable. Some of these bridges are believed to be 500 years old or more. The Umkar bridge, shown in this picture, is in the village of Siet and was destroyed by a massive flash flood a couple of years ago. What you see in this image is a replacement bridge after a couple of years of growth. It is a living bridge in the making. You can see the bamboo cross pieces inserted as part of the training process. They'll eventually rot away and the roots will take over. When done, these bridges can hold as many as 50 people.
