Tickets can be purchased to ascend by stairs or lift (elevator) to the first and second levels. The climb from ground level to the first level is over 300 steps, as is the climb from the first level to the second. Although there is a staircase to the top level, it is usually only accessible by lift.
The puddled iron (wrought iron) of the Eiffel Tower weighs 7,300 tonnes, and the entire structure, including non-metal components, is approximately 10,000 tonnes. As a demonstration of the economy of design, if the 7,300 tonnes of metal in the structure were melted down, it would fill the 125 m2 base to a depth of only 6.25 cm (2.46 in), assuming the density of the metal to be 7.8 tonnes per cubic metre. Additionally, a cubic box surrounding the tower (324 m x 125 m x 125 m) would contain 6,200 tonnes of air, weighing almost as much as the iron itself. Depending on the ambient temperature, the top of the tower may shift away from the sun by up to 18 cm (7 in) due to thermal expansion of the metal on the side facing the sun.

The football club Paris Saint-Germain and the rugby union club Stade Français are based in Paris. Paris hosts the annual French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament on the red clay of Roland Garros. Paris hosted the Olympic Games in 1900, 1924 and will host the 2024 Summer Olympics. The 1938 and 1998 FIFA World Cups, the 2007 Rugby World Cup, and the 1960, 1984, and 2016 UEFA European Championships were also held in the city and, every July, the Tour de France bicycle race finishes there.

We had eaten in a brasserie not too far away from the tower and we were on route to the Arc de Triomphe to take the tower from above
As I've mentioned in other shots, I believe they have coloured the tower blue as part of their celebrations for holding the EU presidency. If I had had more time I would have loved to have taken a shot standing directly underneath to get the open square, looking up to the top.
