This delightful outdoor museum was the next stop on our road trip to Telemark and back to Sandnes.. The vest-telemark museum is adjacent to Eidsborg Stave Church. In a beautiful forest setting, the old traditional buildings are a fascinating insight to the architecture that is uniquely Norwegian.

I absolutely adore the landscape and forests of southern Norway.

Brynestein fra bruddet i Eidsborg, liggende klare for utskipning fra Dalen, Tokke i Telemark. Produksjonen ble drevet profesjonelt og industrielt. Antallet bryner på bildet er anslått til 50.000.

Forekomsten i Eidsborg har vært utnyttet siden vikingtiden, og bryner herfra inngår i arkeologiske funn i og utenfor Norge.

Continuing towards Dalen, we stopped at the Vest Telemark Museum and the adjacent Eidsborg Stave Church. Located in Stokka, this beautifully preserved church dates back to c.1250

Wooden stave churches such as this one are among Norway's cultural treasures. This one was locked on the weekday we drove by, likely as somewhat of a precaution against the vandlism that has been committed against such churches over the past several years by thoughtless (to put it kindly) people.

Eidsborg stavkirke er en stavkirke fra midten av 1200-tallet i Tokke i Telemark. Kirken er enskipet og blant de minste i landet. Eidsborg stavkirke ligger like ved landets største friluftsmuseum (målt i areal), Vest-Telemark Museum, og omvisninger i kirken arrangeres fra museet.
