The Dutch garden is distinguished by its dense atmosphere and efficient use of space. On an international level, a garden with tulips is also easily labelled as a Dutch Garden.
In England, Dutch Garden was the description given to a particular type of rectangular garden space, often enclosed within hedges or walls, even if part of a larger garden or parkland. This space would be laid out in a highly cultivated and geometrical, often symmetrical, fashion, shaped by dense plantings of highly coloured flowers, and edged with box or other dense and clipped shrubs, or low walls (sometimes in geometrical patterns), and sometimes, also, with areas of artificial water, with fountains and water butts, which were also laid out in symmetrical arrangements. The flower beds and areas of water would be intersected by geometrical path patterns, to make it possible to walk around the garden without damaging any of its features. An example is to be found adjacent to Kensington Palace, due south of the orangery. Another example, less ambitious, is at Clandon Park in Surrey. The Dutch Garden, with its geometry and formality, was in opposition to the Cottage garden, which is characterised by grass, winding and asymmetrical paths (if any) and a blurring of the lines between flowers and grass by allowing shrubs to grow over flower bed boundaries.
The placement of flowers and shrubs in the Dutch garden in Holland, however, may be non-linear and informal, though still efficiently making use of space and light. Because the Netherlandsis one of the most densely populated countries, gardens are generally small and because houses are placed right next to each other, there is not very much light available. Because of these restrictions, the distinctive style of garden design associated with the Dutch emerged.

Plug-in hybrid with a three cylinder turbodiesel engine, with two additional electric motors with 139 horsepower. It allows an acceleration to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 miles per hour (249 km/h).
The lightweight chassis is made mainly from aluminum. The windshield, top, doors and fenders are made from polycarbonate glass, with the body having a drag coefficient of 0.22.

It was are really hot day. We decided to seat and have some lunch. This guy, very professional, brings you the huge beer when you ask for a small one and never lose his smile ;) I kinda liked him and took the photo with asking. This is an instant.
It's a pity that I forgot to ask for his name.

We had a good portuguese meal.
As for the lighting. The white big sun umbrella let the light diffused regularly.

The Pelton Wheel Power system was installed in 1940 and utilized McWay creek with a flow of 500 gpm and available head of 160 ft to provide 6.1 kW of electrical energy to the main house. The wheel was invented by Lester Allan Pelton in the 1870s. The Pelton wheel extracts energy from the impulse (momentum) of moving water, as opposed to its weight like traditional overshot water wheel yielding a more efficient design. Pelton's paddle geometry was designed so that when the rim runs at ½ the speed of the water jet, the water leaves the wheel with very little speed, extracting almost all of its energy, and allowing for a very efficient turbine.
Pelton chose to use a double cup and direct the jet on to the junction between the two cups. This ensured that no water would miss the cup.

The wonderfully efficient KTM Komuter train whisked me from Kuala Lumpur to Seremban, the capital of Negeri Sembilan, in just over an hour. That state is sometimes called "The Special Abode", and this honorific brought to mind Homer's "Odyssey" and his Land of the Lotus Eaters.
It's not very clear what plant Ulysses's Lotus actually was, but one of the candidates is the Nelumbo nucifera. His men ate from it and gave up caring about returning home to Greece. The Rover had to tie them down to their galley seats and force them onwards, onwards... ('The Odyssey, Book IX).
Seremban, Negeri Sembilan's capital, is a lovely and pleasant provincial town. Originally a tin-mining community, it is now a thriving market centre, only recently made a 'city'. In its centre quite close together are a huge new mosque, a large Hindu temple, and a much older Catholic church, built by Chinese contract laborers, dating from the nineteenth century. Together they are dominated - as contemporary times dictate - by an enormous shopping mall with the ubiquitous Parksons and Starbucks. But all remains quite picturesque.
The centre of town is made airy and green by a huge Lake Gardens. Just about every tree and shrub is carefully labeled, and the two large lakes are exquisitly landscaped. In an appropriately muddy pond in these Green Grounds is a patch of lotus lilies. That's where I took this photo as Homer sang in my mind.
I saw these stuff in the Orossi Market in downtown Phnom Penh...Moving with the times, the owners hung up these intruments and probably replaced them with digital calculators. An ancient art form will soon be lost....

Workers begin demolishing LANL Building 21-2 at TA-21 at LANL in late July 2011.
Efficient contracting and waste management has led to a $6 million cost savings for a $73 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Project at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
The savings has allowed for two additional large buildings to be added to the demolition schedule at LANL’s Technical Area 21 (TA-21). The $73 million in Recovery Act funds was already providing for the demolition of 22 buildings.

Energy efficient 5 star eco-rated office building

The " Meridian Energy Building" in Wellington, New Zealand, is an ultra green office building (5 star quotation).
The building has been developed to reduce energy consumption by 60% and water consumption by 70% compared to similar, regular office buildings. It is one of the first buildings that has been developed and built according to “Ecologically Sustainable Development” (ESD) principles.
The building has been equipped with for example a sun-activated boiler system, warmth recuperation systems, intelligent house automation, a modern ventilation system (through cooled beams), an “active” external wall and a rainwater recuperation system.
De Boer Waterproofing Solutions provided the hi-tech DuO waterproofing system and provided installation details and wind uplift calculations.
The energy efficient construction harbours a coffee shop, Wagamama restaurant, the ferry ticketing service and several company offices.
The “open” architecture creates the feeling of space and due to its design its environment absorbs the building.
"The Meridian Energy Building" is already one of the most modern and advanced buildings in New Zealand.

Part of the Recovery Act projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory was the installation of 16 groundwater monitoring wells. With the project nearing completion slightly more than a year later (2010), almost 10 percent of the overall budget was saved through efficient purchasing and construction and will be used for additional projects.

Accurate and efficient predictions of hydrocarbon diffusivities in zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are challenging, due to the small pore size of materials such as ZIF-8 and the wide range of diffusion time scales of hydrocarbon molecules in ZIFs. Here we have computationally measured the hopping rates of 15 different molecules (kinetic diameters of 2.66–5.10 Å) in ZIF-8 via dynamically corrected transition state theory (dcTST). Umbrella sampling combined with the one-dimensional weighted histogram analysis method (WHAM) was used to calculate the diffusion free energy barriers. Both the umbrella sampling and dynamical correction calculations included ZIF-8 flexibility, which is found to be critical in accurately describing molecular diffusion in this material. Comparison of the computed diffusivities to extant experimental results shows remarkable agreement within an order of magnitude for all the molecules. The dcTST method was also applied to study the effect of hydrocarbon loadings. Self and transport diffusion coefficients of methane, ethane, ethylene, propane, propylene, n-butane, and 1-butene in ZIF-8 are reported over a temperature range of 0–150 °C and loadings from infinite dilution to liquid-like loadings.

Passive house is a green building design and construction approach that results in highly efficient residential and commercial buildings.
Although commonly referred to under the term “passive house”, buildings constructed to this standard can be built to commercial scale as well as single family residential.
The passive house standard is somewhat complex because there are two separate organizations that promote this type of construction…
PassivHaus in Germany was the originator of the standard… and PHIUS (Passive House Institute U.S.) in the United States was subsequently formed to promote the standard here in the United States.
PHIUS has made changes to the PassivHaus standard to better reflect the differences in climate across the U.S.
Passive house is becoming more popular in the United States. Eco-friendly and energy conservation-minded people are interested in home building options, such as net zero homes1 and passive house construction, to increase their resilience and reduce grid dependency.
