Wroclaw is a town in southwestern Poland. It's the fourth-largest city in the country, and its most distinguishing characteristic are its gnomes.
The gnomes are a recent (maybe about 20 years now?) phenomenon. They were originally a sign of anticommunist protest. (A fella explained it to me, and I've forgotten, but the gist is that the Polish word for dwarf is similar to something to do with protest, so...there you go.) There are some of the originals around still.
The movement transformed when someone wanted to take down the originals and there was a mild uproar to keep them around. Then businesses jumped on the bandwagon, and a lot of businesses have paid to have their own gnomes and now...there are about 800 around, with more going up all the time. Some are on private property and inaccessible, but the majority are not.
You can pay about $5 for a guide at any of the visitor centers on Market Square (which I did...but not a smart investment). That book is a bit dated and turns out to be a souvenir. Your best bet is to download the app Wroclaw Dwarfs on your phone. It's interactive, has pictures & locations and you can make a bit of a game out of it. The upside is that you get a lot of walking exercise while distracting yourself by finding quirky little gnome statues all over the place. Most of them have names (usually related to the business that sponsored them, or to what they're doing). It's a fun way to spend your time in Wroclaw if you have nothing else planned.

Instead of being the rock - the foundation there needs to be a forceful reversal of habits, a hat changing where educators become the fluid powerful crash of a wave.
