On October 3, Eats announced their closing, and that their last day of business would be Friday, October 17, 2025.

I've been enjoying Eats since around 2003, when I began going as an undergrad at Tech participating in "orchestra dinner" events after GTSO rehearsal on Thursday evenings. After graduation, after getting a job in Midtown, I resumed visited regularly during lunch. After the closure announcement, I was able to come three more times; the crowds were big and the lines were long during those final couple weeks.

It's already hard to believe Eats is no more. It will be missed by so many.

This location opened on December 27th, 2024; it was previously Audiovox Cellular, which opened in the early 1990s. It became Business Communications of Virginia/eTel Superstore in April 1997, which closed in 2003, Lee Family Dentistry in 2003, which relocated to 7347 Bell Creek Road in 2013, Allied Cash Advance operated in part of the space in the late 2000s, and the entire space became a TitleMax in 2013, which closed in 2020.

Serious Eats is a pretty great foodie website (it really is more than just a blog) that Andrew and I got to visit while we were in New York. Andrew met one of their staffers, Alaina Brown, at SXSW several years ago when he did a panel about city-themed blogs. She was a blogger who wrote about eating and it makes sense for her to be working for them.

Over the last year-plus I've become quite a fan of Serious Eats (hello! even Alton Brown stopped by to visit them--swoon!) and realized that going to NY I'd get the chance to meet them. So we show up and there is this very modest office space with great computers, lots of cookbooks, lots of food, and just a handful of people. I didn't really expect a glossy-surfaced, super-fancy office. But I also expected something much, much fancier. I will say that even though I didn't get a picture of it, they do have a pretty great kitchen which I can imagine them using occasionally.
