Flower arrangements at the Easter Show

Great title I came up with right?! :P

Anyway. I'm SOOO SORRY FOR NOT BEING ON HERE FOR SO LONG.....

It really sucks. I finally get a pro from an amazing person and I've sort of abandoned my flickr because of school workload...I don't want my pro to be wasted so I'm trying to be online as often as I can :)

I went to the easter show yesterday!! Once I saw the ferris wheel, I can't help but take TONS of photos with it, because the colours and the wheel..I dunno, it makes me think of taking a photo of this and show it to you lovely flickr friends<3

I actually took more than this, I'll upload the rest of the ferris wheel series in the next few days! Hope you won't be bored of ferris wheels :))

Camp draft is an Australian rodeo event. The rider must first cut a beast out of a yard (corral?) containing about 10 beasts. Once the beast has been cut out, the yard gate is opened and the rider must guide the beast around a figure of eight course and then through a final gap.

Very exciting. And you have to like an event where the competitors wear ties.

Last but not least my proud third placer! How proud, well you only have to check out the other cakes to understand.

Inspired by many a thing of seen and developed from an idea I've had for quite some time. There were some design issues if you look at it side on the shelf is leaning... so I'll just show you front on pictures hehehehe.

Cake decorating at the Sydney Easter Show 2007

This was my sugar piece inspired by a kitchen tea cake I did, I'm really happy with it, but the standard was very high and if Anna Maria could only manage a highly commended this year with her amazing piece then I can see why this didn't place, but I love it all the same.

Afternoon delight.

Ferris wheels are the best to be in at any point of the day, But they start to look nicer at night time.

This was my wedding cake entry, again very high calibre and quite a few entries, I'm just chuffed it had a spot right at the front of the case! :D I'm happy with the design, but could have worked more on the finish. Flowers inspired by my wonderful friend Pam's daughter's shoe box cake!

District Exhibit Displays

The uniquely Australian District Exhibit displays provide a colourful, creative and captivating tapestry of the country's best produce.

The District Exhibit competition consists of five regions that represent Southern, Northern, Western, Central NSW and South East Queensland. The exhibits are the end result of a year of hard work by passionate agriculturalists, farmers and volunteers, who plan, source, collect, design and install the spectacular constructions for pre-Show judging. More than 50,000 pieces of fresh fruit, vegetables, grains, pulses, wool and other produce are used to create the exhibits.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show, also known as the Royal Easter Show or simply The Easter Show or The Royal, is an annual show held in Sydney, Australia over two weeks around Easter. It is run by the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales and was first held in 1823, with the aim of encouraging the colony's rural industries. Queen Victoria awarded the society and its show the right to use the word "Royal" in its name.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is the largest event held in Australia, and the sixth largest in the world.

The Show is historically an event where "city meets country" and the rural industries of Australia can be shown and celebrated once a year.

The Show comprises an agricultural show, an amusement park and a fair and combines the elements of each, showcasing the judging of livestock and produce. This comprehensive fair has many competitions including arts and crafts, photography and cookery, as well as tests of strength and skill such as wood chopping. The Show also has shopping, restaurants, commercial stands and exhibits, a horticultural display, a national accredited conformation dog show and cat show, and stage and arena shows.

This was my mini cake entry, it didn't win anything and when I got there the colours had taken a significant fade. It's inspired by a recent blog post I saw where I think it was Pinkcakebox doing a full size one and also by the suzyhascakes dress cake!

I do like the woodchopping, unfortunately the skies grew quite dark.

This year I have media accreditation to shoot the Sydney Royal Easter Show. On my first exploratory outing yesterday, I met this delightful carnival booth operator dressed as a clown trying to get me to shoot targets and win one of the stuffed toy prizes behind him.

Brave show-goers take on one of the fast 'twisty-turny' rides on the last day of the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The vibrant, high contrast colours come from the direct late afternoon sunlight.

Royal easter show fashion parade. No idea who the designer was but the fashion show was put on a number of times each day at the easter show inbetween sheep shearing events. Probably to showcase Australian designers and products.

The clothes were quite nice, although the skirts were somewhat short. At least the styles and colour combinations were very nicely done.

A lof of greys and neutral colours with primary and secondary colours in colouring blocking style.

The models were very stylised in appearance and very thin.

I was just sitting on a chair in the audience taking this picture and others.

This was not a portrait set up. It was a stage; some models sat while others took turns walking the catwalk. So I zoomed in on a sitting model!!!

Took my kids to this annual event to see the animals and didn't expect to have bumped into this man, Duncan McCosker. Duncan is a Professor of Art and a documentary photographer from San Diego, USA and he's using a camera called "Sciliano" (I hope I got it right). He explained that only 50 of these Scilianos were ever made in the world. It is a 6x9 camera using 120 roll films with a 75 F5.6 lens

Interesting. Ah... and he also shoots with an X100.

CORRECTION - Duncan just emailed me - name of this camera is "Siciliano-6X9"
