My lime green Eames chair arrived. I've been eyeballing it for 15 years.
It feels GREAT.
My pops gave me the Mattiolo lamp. It's an original from 1962.
The Eames House was built in the late 1940s as Case Study House #8. One of a series of innovative designs in John Estenza's Case Study House Programme it was designed by Ray and Charles Eames as a family home for their own use.
Ray and Charles Eames are the subjects of a recently released film, "Eames: the Architect and the Painter."

The Eames Plastic Armchairs for Vitra were first presented as part of a New York Museum of Modern Art competition, "Low Cost Furniture Design". Their organically shaped plastic seat shells were later combined with various different bases and manufactured in their millions.

Ok! So this is an oldie but a goodie - I know I have a whole BUNCH of books on my flickr but would you believe they're only a tiny sample of what I have lurking in my iPhoto files? haha.
This is a medium sized sketch book I bound using chevron-shaped stitches, and the cover was stamped with - yes, you're correct - Eames chair stamps! - onto raw book board (aka Davey board). I used an eyelet setter to make the holes in the cover a little more presentable. It's stitched with Irish linen thread
*NOTE* What I learned - it's structurally important, on a heavy book like this, to either have more sewing stations (two more may have done it) or at least two straight lines of kettle stitches - one at the head, one at the tail, to give the book more structure - this one came out pretty "floppy".

I found a second splint in the same shop. It looks as though this second splint might have been made by Alvar and Aaino Aalto's company, Artek-Pascoe
