VIRTLANTIS is a free resource and open community of practice for language learners and teachers in the virtual world of Second Life®. We offer free informal language learning activities for a growing number of languages including English, French, Spanish, German, Chinese, etc. All of our activities are offered free of charge by volunteer language teachers and/or native speakers.
Everyone is welcome to offer a language activity at VIRTLANTIS. We provide free resources and ongoing support. We also collaborate with and promote other language communities in Second Life.
In addition to our main island and the various social meeting points at Knowingly, we have additional locations which can be used when needed.

In addition to providing our main island as a free resource, we now have a second island which can be used for special language or culture related events such as presentations, workshops, seminars, roundtables, conferences, demos, concerts and parties!
Our new "Paradise Island" can be used free of charge by anyone who needs a private or public space for a large event (maximum 20 avatars). We gladly provide additional support and resources on an as needed basis. We can also modify the look and feel of the island to help create the ideal atmosphere for your event.

This year, we are celebrating Nelson Mandela’s birthday by helping children in need with a stationery gift. 110 orphaned children from the Emfundisweni Primary School in Alexandra Township have been identified as children in need of stationery supplies. Along with stationery, GIBS will also be giving each child a teddy bear and keepsake box. Our Mandela Project this year will fulfill a great need in the learning environment as well as bringing smiles to disadvantaged children.

The Jacksonville State University Office of Distance Education and Blackboard Inc. teamed up on April 21-22, 2011 to present the first Blackboard Partners eLearning Symposium on the JSU campus. More than 250 educators from throughout the Southeastern United States participated.

Formación Digital, a través de su Director General José Ignacio Ustaran, hizo entrega de los diplomas a los ganadores de la primera edición del Concurso de Ideas “Innova en Red”, nacido con la finalidad de promover entre los trabajadores de la compañía la generación de proyectos que, aplicados al día a día de nuestra empresa, ayuden a innovar y mejorar los actuales procedimientos de trabajo.

Our staff sometimes makes professional presentations to their colleagues around the state/area/country. At last year's NJ Library Assn conference, music librarian Cinthia Levy did a poster session on her online classes in medieval and Renaissance music, believed to be among the first of their kind in the country.
