"Chassis No. SBCCXXCCDCHJ88295 The six cylinder diesel cargo was apparently restored some six years ago and taken to a couple of shows but since then was left standing in a yard. The vendor states that it has new tyres and brakes all round and starts, runs and drives as it should with everything in working order. Offered for sale with V5C and with a new MOT. Estimate £2,000 - £2,500."
Sold for £3200.
Even though its been almost 30 years since the Canadian National bought out the Illinois Central, the IC's sd70 fleet is still seen running the "Mainline of Mid America" on a daily basis. Generally the IC sd70s are seen on the A trains (A408/A407), but this one led a E271 from Markham to Champaign.
CN E271 is normally an autorack-only train, but today, in addition to the interesting standard-cab consist, a large cut of double stacks on the head end make this train a bit more interesting than it's usually bland makeup.

CN train #E271 is crossing Melrose diamond on CN's Strathroy sub., led by SD70M-2 8936 and ES44DC 2227.

CN 3192 is solo on CN E271 as it crosses the Humber Bridge, CN L559 could be seen waiting for them on the north to clear before heading to Mac yard with GMTX 2279, GMTX 2264 and GTW 6420.

Empty container wells make up the front part of CN train #E271 crossing Melrose diamond behind a lone SD70I, 5620.
CN seems to prefer using DC power for long auto-rack trains. Here SD70M-2s 8941 and 8851 are leading #E271, Montreal to Flat Rock, west of Wanstead, on CN's STrathroy sub.
Still looking very new, CN ES44AC 3911 leads train #E271 as it approaches Scotchmere Drive, between Poplar and STrathroy.

After waiting around Tolono hopping for a good E271, a M334 showed up with a duo of IC sd70s leading. With lighting working mostly in our favor we took off after the train, landing this shot at Mattoon.
CN C44-9WL #2513 looks a little worse for wear as it leads CN 148 through Bayview on a very pleasant morning. They would meet CN E271, also with stacks, at Aldershot just ahead.
After a little bit of time figuring out what to do, we decided to kill a little time along the CN Chicago Subdivision for the rest of our afternoon. Not long after arriving at the Metra Electric station in Flossmoor, IL, we see CN E271 ripping southbound out of Homewood with a "priority manifest train" led by BNSF ES44DC 7593 and a KCS ES44AC.
