Not a shot I had considered going for when I made the eastward trip to find the highly sought after E271. After starting in Port Huron, a couple stops on the way lead to me being convinced to head for the Detroit Art Park. Slowly navigating their way over the high line and the famous FIsher Building standing in the distance, 271 catches an approach at Avery short of heading on to Conrail Shared Assets.
CN E271 crosses the ex-EJ&E at Griffith with an ex-MoPac SD40-2 rebuilt by AMF in the 90s leading two IC SD70s and a loaded vehicle train out of Michigan.
CN 8952 leads E271 through Brantford Ontario amid a perfect suckerhole on a heavily clouded afternoon.
With a long train of empty racks for Ford in Flat Rock, E271 makes the hard charge our of the St. Clair Tunnel with the fan favorite BC Rail heritage leading. To the right of the frame, you can see the portal of the original St. Clair Tunnel into Canada that was closed and sealed not long after the new tunnel opened in 1994.
CN E271 heads west through Griffith Indiana on the CN South Bend Subdivision with a CN SD40-2 leading 2 IC SD70s. Good times to be on the good track road.
CN E271 rolls west along what was once the GTR. A cut of empty racks in tow of a GTW heritage unit seems fit with GTW's big role in the auto industry.
The BC Rail heritage unit, CN 3115, leads CN E271 south towards Flat Rock, Michigan. E271 passes by the old elevator and Grand Trunk depot in New Haven, Michigan on the Mt Clemens Subdivision.

IC SD70 #1009 leads train E271 through Gilman, IL on the CN Chicago Subdivision. UP 6318, still wearing Southern Pacific paint, trails second.
An IC painted SD70 on the point would have made this train even better, but I can't complain with this kind of lash up in 2025.
Train E271 (Battle Creek, MI - Salem, IL) with IC 2460 (Ex LMS C40-8W) overtakes train Q116 (Markham, IL - Flat Rock, MI) with a pair of CN SD60s (5421/5407). E271 would then back into CN’s Markham Yard after completing its train for the SB run on the IC. Q116 would later begin the finishing touches of adding on the cut of Intermodal needed for his EB run on the GTW, once E271 cleared the plant. Taken: 1-25-21.
The honorary IC 1000 is on the point of E271 seen here pulling through Homewood for headroom. The 8408 on display next to the Homewood station can also be seen on the far left.

CN E271 has a nice 90's lashup for power as it tackles the hill at Beare on it's way up the York Sub. I had shot CP H19 here about 40 minutes beforehand and stuck around simply out of boredom, so seeing this train pop out from the underpass was certainly a pleasant surprise considering gevos pretty much rule the York Sub these days.
