”কোন পুরুষ যৌনক্রিয়ায় ঠিকভাবে অংশগ্রহণ করতে না পারলে সেটিকে যৌন সমস্যা (Sexual dysfunction) বলা হয় । এর প্রধানতম সমস্যাটি হচ্ছে ঠিকমত ইরেকশন (erection) বা লিঙ্গ সুদৃঢ় না হওয়া । এটি লোকে যা মনে করে তার চেয়ে অনেক বেশি দেখা যায়। ২০-৪০ বছর বয়সী পুরুষদের মধ্যে ৭-৮%, এবং ৪০-৫০ বছর বয়সী পুরুষদের মধ্যে ১১% এই সমস্যায় আক্রান্ত হয়। ষাটোর্ধ পুরুষদের ৪০% এবং ৭০ বছরের বেশি বয়সের পুরুষদের অর্ধেকই এই সমস্যায় ভোগেন।” এটি বিপরিত লিঙ্গের প্রতি আকৃষ্ট, সমকামী, বাই-সেক্সুয়াল বা ট্র্যান্সজেন্ডার যে কারো হতে পারে।”
১) ইরেক্টাইল ডিসফাংশন বা ইম্পোটেন্স (Erectile dysfunction (impotence))এই সমস্যাটি হলে পুরুষদের লিঙ্গ সুদৃঢ় হয় না বা হলেও তারা সেটি বেশিক্ষন ধরে রাখতে পারে না । বেশিরভাগ পুরুষেরই জীবনে কখনো না কখনো এই সমস্যাটি হয়। বিশেষজ্ঞদের মতে “এটি তখনই সমস্যা হিসেবে বিবেচনা করা হয় যখন কোন পুরুষ বা তার সঙ্গিনী এটিকে সমস্যা মনে করেন।”
ইরেক্টাইল ডিসফাংশন কেন হয়?অনেকগুলো কারণে এটি হতে পারে । এই কারণগুলোর কয়েকটি মানসিক এবং কয়েকটি শারীরিক। মানসিক কারণে (যেমনঃ নাইট নার্ভ (night nerves)) কম বয়সী পুরুষদের এই সমস্যাটি হয়। বেশিরভাগ সময়ই এই সমস্যাটি দীর্ঘস্থায়ী হয় না। তবে অনেক জটিল মানসিক সমস্যার কারনে এটি হতে পারে যার জন্য সাইকোসেক্সুয়াল থেরাপিস্টের সাহায্য নিতে হতে পারে। কর্মক্ষেত্র, টাকাপয়সা, সম্পর্কের টানাপোড়েন, পারিবারিক সমস্যা এমনকি ইরেকশন না হওয়া নিয়ে দুশ্চিন্তার কারণেও সমস্যাটি হতে পারে। ইরেক্টাইল ডিসফাংশনের শারীরিক কারণগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছেঃ-
1. হৃদরোগ (heart disease)
2. ডায়বেটিস (diabetes)
3. রক্তচাপ বেড়ে যাওয়া (raised blood pressure)
4. কলেস্টেরল বেড়ে যাওয়া (raised cholesterol): এতে ধমনিগুলো সঙ্কুচিত হয়ে পড়ে। যৌনাঙ্গের ধমনিগুলো এমনিতেই খুব সরু (১-২ মি.মি. ব্যাসার্ধের, যেখানে হৃৎপিণ্ডের ধমনিগুলো ১০ মি.মি.) ব্যাসার্ধের) হয়
5. টেসটোস্টেরনের পরিমাণ কমে যাওয়া (low testosterone): পুরুষদের বয়স বাড়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে টেসটোস্টেরনের পরিমাণ কমতে থাকে, তবে সব পুরুষেরাই এর দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হয় না। যারা এর কারণে সমস্যায় পড়েন তারা ক্লান্ত, আনফিট এবং যৌনক্রিয়ায় অসমর্থ বোধ করবেন এবং এর প্রতি আগ্রহ হারিয়ে ফেলবেন।
যে সব ড্রাগ বা ঔষধের কারণে ইরেক্টাইল ডিসফাংশন হয়ঃ
কয়েক ধরনের ঔষধ (some prescription drugs):
1. এগুলো হচ্ছে রক্তচাপ কমাতে ব্যবহৃত ঔষধ (যেমন বেটা ব্লকার) এবং বিষণ্ণতা দূর করতে ব্যবহৃত ঔষধ (antidepressants) ও অ্যান্টিকনভালস্যান্ট/ খিঁচুনি কমানোর ঔষধ।
2. মদ (alcohol)
3. গাঁজা ও কোকেইনের মত ড্রাগ
4. ধূমপান (smoking): নিকোটিনের কারনে ইরেকশন বা লিঙ্গ সুদৃঢ় হওয়ার সময় পুরুষাঙ্গের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় প্রয়োজনীয় রক্ত সরবরাহ বাধাপ্রাপ্ত হয়।
ইরেক্টাইল ডিসফাংশন হলে কী করতে পারি?
অবশ্যই অভিজ্ঞ ডাক্তারের শরনাপন্ন হোন । বয়স্কদের ক্ষেত্রে ইরেক্টাইল ডিসফাংশন অন্যান্য সমস্যার নির্দেশকও হতে পারে । এটি উচ্চ রক্তচাপ, উচ্চ মাত্রার কোলেস্টেরল এবং ডায়বেটিসের সাথে সম্পর্ক যুক্ত । এর যে কোনটি ভবিষ্যতে হৃদরোগ হওয়ার পূর্বলক্ষণ হতে পারে । ডাক্তার আপনার প্রয়োজনীয় চিকিৎসা নিশ্চিত করবেন ।

Portland, OR, October 23, 2014 — The Philip Feldman Gallery + Project Space at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) presents Breaking Banality: The Dysfunction of Remediation, an exhibition by Eva and Franco Mattes, opening with a reception on First Thursday, November 6, 2014 and running through January 10, 2015. For the exhibition, whose title was created by an online random exhibition title generator, the Brooklyn-based Italian duo will present ten reiterations of one performance from their series “BEFNOED – By Everyone, For No One, Every Day,” for which they commission anonymous workers to realize webcam performances. The Mattes’ hire performers through online crowdsourcing services and post the resulting videos to many of the more obscure social networks around the world. The artists regularly post links to new videos at befnoed.tumblr.com. These works are in the lineage of Fluxus event scores and more recently Hans Ulrich Obrist’s instruction-based project, “Do It.” For this exhibition, to view the videos, visitors will be forced in awkward positions, becoming themselves, if just for a few seconds, performers, and underlying how the act of viewing is in itself performative.

Portland artist Roger Peet will open a show of new installation, video and print work in Gallery 214 at PNCA on the 6th November. The show, entitled “Traps, Flows, Echoes” focuses on the idea of the trap, in both the physical and cultural realms. Much of the show will focus on Peet’s relationship to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he has worked for several seasons to promote community conservation through art. Some of the work addresses Peet’s complex relationship with his father, who faked his death to go AWOL from the British Air Force and to fly helicopters for the CIA’s interventions in Congo in the 1960’s, an event which Peet recreates in a video collaboration with Portland director Jodi Darby. In his travels and work in Congo, Peet experienced first hand the disastrous consequences of the history his father had helped to shape, and this show will contain vivid and evocative print, installation, and sound pieces that evoke the trauma and brutality of that trap of history, as well as the ways that he and the friends that he made in Congo are trying to get out of it. The work also features sound collages and poetry by Portland MC Mic Crenshaw.
Roger Peet is an artist, writer and printmaker in Portland, Oregon. His art focuses on civilized bad ideas, evolution and extinction, predator-prey relationships, and the contemporary crisis of biodiversity and what can and can’t be done about it. He is a member of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative (justseeds.org), a group of socially and environmentally engaged North American artists, and collaborates with activists, artists and scientists across the globe in the service of a more generous and a wilder world. Eva and Franco Mattes: Breaking Banality: The Dysfunction of Remediation

Portland, OR, October 23, 2014 — The Philip Feldman Gallery + Project Space at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) presents Breaking Banality: The Dysfunction of Remediation, an exhibition by Eva and Franco Mattes, opening with a reception on First Thursday, November 6, 2014 and running through January 10, 2015. For the exhibition, whose title was created by an online random exhibition title generator, the Brooklyn-based Italian duo will present ten reiterations of one performance from their series “BEFNOED – By Everyone, For No One, Every Day,” for which they commission anonymous workers to realize webcam performances. The Mattes’ hire performers through online crowdsourcing services and post the resulting videos to many of the more obscure social networks around the world. The artists regularly post links to new videos at befnoed.tumblr.com. These works are in the lineage of Fluxus event scores and more recently Hans Ulrich Obrist’s instruction-based project, “Do It.” For this exhibition, to view the videos, visitors will be forced in awkward positions, becoming themselves, if just for a few seconds, performers, and underlying how the act of viewing is in itself performative.

Portland artist Roger Peet will open a show of new installation, video and print work in Gallery 214 at PNCA on the 6th November. The show, entitled “Traps, Flows, Echoes” focuses on the idea of the trap, in both the physical and cultural realms. Much of the show will focus on Peet’s relationship to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he has worked for several seasons to promote community conservation through art. Although Dr. Werner does not generally see the patients, he reviews all evaluations and lab results, oversees all treatment, and follows all patient care. Upon request, he is always available for consultation after the initial evaluation.
Dr. Werner is a urologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of male erectile dysfunction and male infertility. He began to treat women with sexual dysfunction in the summer of 2001. Dr. Werner completed his specialized fellowship training in male sexual dysfunction at Boston University Medical Center and his urology residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. He received his medical school training at the University of California at San Francisco. He holds an undergraduate degree in biology from Harvard College.
Dr. Werner serves as the Regional Medical Advisor for New York and Connecticut, for the Impotence World Association and the Medical Director of M.A.Z.E. Laboratories. He is a co-author of numerous publications on the subject of sexual dysfunction.
Patients cite his "easy style" and sensitivity, especially regarding the impact of sexual dysfunction on relationships.
