Spring is here... and we are finally starling to get some breaks in the weather. This shot was taken a couple of weeks ago on a day that had otherwise been rather gray and boring. But I looked out my window and saw that there was potential for a nice sunset to form and reflect against the clouds. I only had about 30 minutes and it was rush hour but I decided to risk it. I ended up getting to the 12th Street bridge just 5 minutes before sunset and man am I glad I made the trek! This was one of those "are you kidding me, is this real?" moments.

About the shot, I chose the Rizal bridge to try out my filters from Fotodiox for my Nikon 14-24 wide angle lens. I'm pretty happy with the results. I also went to the Rizal bridge for a bit of revenge! I had been to this bridge 2 other times during the previous week on days that I thought the sunset was going to be great only to watch the inevitable cloud of doom move in and the sunset ended up being a bust. This was payback, I got you this time oh elusive sunset! (shakes fist at sky)

Rainy day -- so I need to remember last year. I was hoping they would self seed again this year.

The Phare Ponleu Selap circus was founded in Battambang, Cambodia, to give street kids a creative outlet and an opportunity for employment. It has become so successful that it now tours internationally, and funds numerous youth projects in Cambodia. The intimate tent in Battambang, and the enthusiasm and skill of the perfomers, make their show a charming and impressive experience.

This Chevrolet 3100 Advance design pickup truck, looking like it's been abandoned in a field, was actually at the Marsh Farm Motorfest. This is 3 exposures with -1+ stops bracketing, then Photomatix for HDR and tonemapping, and finally Photoshop for the finishing touches.

ESO’s La Silla Observatory is a very dynamic place. Once the night settles, astronomers start buzzing around, as can be seen by the traces of parking lights. The telescopes come to life, scanning the sky in search of their targets, while our Earth continues its journey through space and around the Sun — a movement we can deduce from the star trails visible in the sky. Such trails are obtained by using long exposure times. As the stars seem to move across the sky, they leave behind a trail of light, similarly to how the car lights are captured in this picture.

Although Panhard was known for its quirky and different post-war cars, the pre-war ones were even more odd ones.

The extravagant Dynamic was very special. Especially when you realize it was a factory made model. To my opinion one of the most remarkable French cars of the 1930s. She has some beautiful Art Deco details.

The streamlined car had all kind of new features like a three-piece windscreen with three wipers. Also notable are the integrated head lamps. It's one of the earliest examples of French cars with this feature.

It was designed by P&L's in-house designer Louis Bionier, and introduced at the Paris Motor show in Oct. 1936.

Note the central position of the steering wheel. After drivers had complained about it the wheel regained its conventional position.

The 'SS' on the grille stands for 'sans soupapes' which means without valves.

Me on the right, and my little bro on the left, as we appear in Halo 3. While these two are usually trying to kill eachother, they occasionally pose for photos.

Also, the Elite figure was pale orange when I got it. It's the only one of my figures that required a complete re-paint.

"Dynamic By Nature" - that is the slogan for the Town of Petawawa, Ontario, Canada - the place I call home. I don't often share "middle of the day" shots where the light is less flattering, but I wanted to share this photo as a tribute to the natural beauty of my community. I had a guest minister and his wife with us this weekend, and this morning I took them around and "showed them the sights". I was reminded how beautiful Petawawa really is, and how privileged I am to live here. I took this shot this morning, and so here is a fresh look at this beautiful Canadian community. The two young ladies on the paddleboards have it right - this is an outdoor playground...dynamic by nature.

Finally the hectic Christmas and New Year period is over.

Here is my first "soulscape" image for 2013.

While I still find myself shooting the generic colourful panoramics to cater for possible print sales I far prefer shooting and processing scenes such as this. Food for the soul. Hence "soulscape".

Kind of weird to be posting a selfie that's not "for" something but, I couldn't resist...

You know me...I love me some macro drops!

Found this outtake from 365 while perusing the archives and just HAD to post it.

This was the sunset on Saturday when super moon was coming. As most of the people went to see and shoot the super moon, I was wandering in Terra Nova watching the sunset.

I forgot to bring my ND filter and so my Nikon was struggling to capture the high contrast in the scene.

I am always lazy and careless in making sure of high technical quality in the pictures. I don’t think much details in highlight and shadow are recorded and this is of course a flawed image.

Many photographers including amateur and professional care a lot about technical quality in pictures.

I always give myself the excuse and argument to escape from this. When you put a lot of effort in getting the best technical quality, you may be putting less effort in aesthetic quality at the same time.

With the advance of technology, the technical quality in the pictures will be surpassed in 10 or 20 years the most. But the great aesthetic beauty in Atget’s Paris pictures or works by Henri Cartier-Bresson will last 100 years or 1,000 years even when the modern cameras and lenses can produce better quality than the ones used by Atget or Bresson.

So I remain lazy in learning the high dynamic range in Photoshop and all the sophisticated techniques in digital world. I am still shooting JPEG and using cheap glasses. I am not interested to analyze the test results of all the gears and optics. I wonder if Van Gogh will bother to choose the brushes and paint before he draws the sunflowers and self portraits.

Happy Monday and great week ahead!
