One of my favourite places for strolling around.........the beach!!

It's been a while, but here's a new photo taken last week during our holiday on Schiermonnikoog (a Dutch island).

I've been busy with other things than Flickr lately, but today I finally did some catching up. Besides that I'm still trying not to spend too much time behind computers.

See you later, have a nice day!

We've been having a blast on our Desert Southwest Expedition with PhotoPills! When we arrived at this photogenic arch, the sky was full of patchy clouds. We hoped the clouds would part and reveal the Milky Way but Mother Nature had her own plans. To take advantage of what Ma Nature gave us, we took long exposures and captured the dynamic cloud movement. In the end, I really liked how the clouds looked like emanating rays!

A Grand Trunk Western GP40-2 and a CN GMD-1 work Sarnia Yard on a windy and chilly May afternoon. The season may have been spring, but it felt a bit more like winter standing on this overpass. 6420 was one of a handful of GTW-painted GP40-2s still in service. As of early 2024, it lives on. The GMD-1 model experienced a bit of a revival starting in late 2018 but all have since been retired by Canadian National.

This is my first attempt shooting star trails. The image is the result of the merging of about 200 light frames and 25 dark frames. Unfortunately the moon was really bright...

I used my Nikon D7100 and the 10-20mm Sigma.

The lesson here: don't pack up too quickly!

On this particularly magical night, a dynamic storm was moving through. We hiked up to a wonderful viewpoint to photograph the lights of the rifugio at blue hour. The clouds blowing over the top of the left mountain created a neat long exposure effect. I took several panoramic passes and was about to pack up when some very late sunset color suddenly appeared in the clouds. What a nice surprise that was!

We have only one spot left for 2023!

Frigorífico Anglo del Uruguay

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frigorífico Anglo del Uruguay was a meatpacking plant located at Fray Bentos, Uruguay, on the Uruguay River bank.

In 1924, the Vestey group purchases the old installations of Liebig Extract of Meat Company and the production goes on under a new name.

During its peak period, El Anglo had 5,000 workers whose ranks included English, Belgians, Russians, Spanish and Italians. It finally closed in 1979 after Europe and the United States had cut back their purchases from Latin America. Small brick houses with thick walls running along the river's edge in Fray Bentos form the "Barrio Anglo," a city-within-a-city where meatpacking workers lived that featured a hospital, a school, a social club and a football squad.[1]

Taking the back routes away from, or over, the A13 London road. It's calm enough here but I noted a mile further on everybody eastbound had come to a halt. Just when I was heading past them. Smug? Who me...? 😇

Most often the Zion Narrows are captured with sunlight glowing around each corner; however during my visit overcast skies prevailed providing an opportunity to focus on even lighting with cooler tones in the canyon. And doubly nice was our timing in capturing autumn. A colleague and I dressed ourselves in dry suits, and wandered up the river. I spent hours waiting for both the crowds to disappear and the wind to provide a light breeze which made the leaves glitter in a painterly-like pose. The dynamics of the scene, from deep shadows, to cool highlights, made for perfection.

1959 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88

1959 was the last year of the big Horsepower for Oldsmobile until the muscle car era would arrive, it was also the last time Oldsmobile won the Daytona 500, with Richard Petty at the wheel of his 1959 Olds Dynamic 88 Hardtop, he won by only a fender length. Oldsmobile had three series for 1959, the Dynamic 88, the high-performance Super 88, and the ultra-luxury Ninety-Eight. The two-door hardtop was named the ‘Holiday SceniCoupe.’

The Oldsmobile Eighty Eight was a representation of an image. Especially during the beginning three years, the Oldsmobile 88 was one of the best performing automobiles. This was most likely due to its small size, along with the lightweight and advanced over-head valve high-compression V8 engines.

The Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 for 1959 had fins that started atop the front fenders and rose as they went to the back in rocket-shaped appendages. The Oldsmobile designers called it the ‘Linear Look’ and was an extreme departure shape from its highly chromed 1958 predecessor. The Dynamic 88 was powered by the standard 371 cubic-inch ‘Rocket’ V8 engine and fitted with an optional 4-speed ‘Jetaway’ Hydra-Matic transmission.

After completing their drill moves at Track 8 and Chefler Foods within PC Yard, the NYSW WS-2 continues east with DL M420W 3560 and NYSW SD40-2 3024. The 3560 is on lease to the Susquehanna to combat a power shortage on the railroad.
