UP 2217 leads the A&S 102 job eastbound up the approach to the MacArthur Bridge in Downtown STL, with two other UP SD60s in the consist. I arrived with only seconds to spare to run up the ramp at 7th Street and get this shot, as when I was getting off the interstate, they were leaving the yard.

One of my favourite places for strolling around.........the beach!!

It's been a while, but here's a new photo taken last week during our holiday on Schiermonnikoog (a Dutch island).

I've been busy with other things than Flickr lately, but today I finally did some catching up. Besides that I'm still trying not to spend too much time behind computers.

See you later, have a nice day!

We had a few magical days living with the eagle hunters and joining them on their hunts. This particular evening could not have been any better. When I first started learning about mirrorless cameras, I never thought they could outperform DSLR's for fast action shooting. With the latest Sony a7's and a9, I don't think that is the case any longer. In this sequence, I took a burst of around 60 shots. The camera/card didn;t slow down one bit! I used Continuous AF along with Sony's lock-on function. I shot hand-held through the viewfinder and the camera locked on to the rider and followed him through the frame. I even zoomed out as he got closer. Looking through my shots, almost every single one was tack sharp. On my DSLR, I probably would have lost 30-40% of the shots from soft focus. Mirrorless is definately the wave of the future!

We've been having a blast on our Desert Southwest Expedition with PhotoPills! When we arrived at this photogenic arch, the sky was full of patchy clouds. We hoped the clouds would part and reveal the Milky Way but Mother Nature had her own plans. To take advantage of what Ma Nature gave us, we took long exposures and captured the dynamic cloud movement. In the end, I really liked how the clouds looked like emanating rays!

This is one of my favorite places I've visited. High up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, it's situated with all of the things a guy could want. Less people around, a wonderful river to fish and enjoy, beautiful mountains, aspen and pine trees, etc. I wish I could visit more often!

Also, the little Olympus XA was a wonderful vacation camera. It pretty much lived in my pocket and capture many photos that made me glad I had it with me.

In this shot - Mountains full of manganese, a stream, some autumn colors in trees and that light in the far mountain ahead .. why I enjoy landscape photography so much :)

The season may have been spring, but it felt a bit more like winter standing on this overpass. 6420 was one of a handful of GTW-painted GP40-2s still in service. As of early 2024, it lives on. The GMD-1 model experienced a bit of a revival starting in late 2018 but all have since been retired by Canadian National.

Timelapse movies had become my new way of capturing my travels besides regular photography. Dubai is a very dynamic city, perfect for timelapse. See for yourself at :

"Dynamic Zion"

Most often the Zion Narrows are captured with sunlight glowing around each corner; however during my visit overcast skies prevailed providing an opportunity to focus on even lighting with cooler tones in the canyon. And doubly nice was our timing in capturing autumn. A colleague and I dressed ourselves in dry suits, and wandered up the river. I spent hours waiting for both the crowds to disappear and the wind to provide a light breeze which made the leaves glitter in a painterly-like pose. The dynamics of the scene, from deep shadows, to cool highlights, made for perfection.

God is not a static thing...but a dynamic, pulsating activity, a life, almost a kind of drama. Almost, if you will not think me irreverent, a kind of dance.
