A powerful and dramatic sky scene featuring a massive accumulation of cumulus clouds. The sun is hidden just behind one large cloud mass, creating intense, fan-like ** crepuscular rays ** (sunbeams) that pierce through the deep blue sky. The bottom edge is anchored by the dark silhouette of treetops, emphasizing the immense scale and dynamic light above.

Seeing an action and trying to catch action.
Some body parts of the boy seemed to be moving in different direction at different speed than others. The legs were sharp and moved toward me, but the head and the arms moved side ways and appeared blurred.

The GT 4623 had been kicking around Quebec and New Brunswick before ending up on the yard job, being the first time a GP9 has ended up in this area in several years. Trailing was IANR GP38-2 3811, a recent acquisition with the purchase of Iowa Northern. Having missed out on the Iron Road era, it was pretty cool to see an Iron Road unit in 2026.
While I had hoped this duo would go out on the Miramichi local, they never left the yard. Only a few days after, the 3811 ended up going back west, presumably with mechanical issues since it was running rough on this day.

We had a few magical days living with the eagle hunters and joining them on their hunts. This particular evening could not have been any better. When I first started learning about mirrorless cameras, I never thought they could outperform DSLR's for fast action shooting. With the latest Sony a7's and a9, I don't think that is the case any longer. In this sequence, I took a burst of around 60 shots. The camera/card didn;t slow down one bit! I used Continuous AF along with Sony's lock-on function. I shot hand-held through the viewfinder and the camera locked on to the rider and followed him through the frame. I even zoomed out as he got closer. Looking through my shots, almost every single one was tack sharp. On my DSLR, I probably would have lost 30-40% of the shots from soft focus. Mirrorless is definately the wave of the future!

"Dynamic Zion"

Most often the Zion Narrows are captured with sunlight glowing around each corner; however during my visit overcast skies prevailed providing an opportunity to focus on even lighting with cooler tones in the canyon. And doubly nice was our timing in capturing autumn. A colleague and I dressed ourselves in dry suits, and wandered up the river. I spent hours waiting for both the crowds to disappear and the wind to provide a light breeze which made the leaves glitter in a painterly-like pose. The dynamics of the scene, from deep shadows, to cool highlights, made for perfection.

This was my first attempt at a 10 image tall/wide panorama to get much more of the sky into the scene.
The Dynamic Duo of NS 4000 and the Erie heritage unit makes it's empty return west after unloading at Port Richmond.
