A natural dye sample set, using a weed (think black eyed susan only rust instead of yellow) that was in my backyard last summer.

The building behind this small formal pond and fountain is dedicated to the memory of Charles Dyer, a gardener. He was a member of The Royal Naval Reserve and enlisted at the start of World War One, joining the obsolete cruiser HMS Charybdis. He transferred to HMT Rosa perhaps after Charybdis was damaged in a collision and laid up for lengthy repairs. Rosa, a requisitioned trawler, was engaged on minesweeping operations. Charles was wounded at The Battle of Jutland and was treated at HMS Pembroke Naval Hospital but disappeared and was recorded as a deserter. His body was found in woodland and his alleged desertion expunged.
