This room is set to be completely gutted and redone in October, 2006. So I've been using it for "messy" crafts all summer, 2006. This is a picture in late September, 2006, just before I clean everything out so the contractors can get to work.
Sadly, I'll have to do tie dyeing either in the garage our outdoors after the room is redone - it will be a shared office/family room (with new hardwood floors that I won't want to permanently stain with cellulose-reactive dye!).
The shirts hanging in back have been soaked in soda ash solution, and are drying. Can't put them in the dryer, because they have a chemical residue. However, by pre-soaking them and then drying them, you get much better color penetration, brighter colors, and less white areas. But they are harder to deal with because you have to dry them, and then all folding has to be done with latex/nitrile gloves on.
The putty colored metal cabinet is full (to bursting, almost) with dyeing and fabric painting equipment, chemicals, and other stuff. When I take up a hobby (I started this in June, 2006, and this picture was taken just 3 months later), I really go all out!
The girls' aunts have come to check on their progress. Bad decision wearing white into the dye room, Mary.
Pants and top both done in various shades of purple. Technically they were different dye batches (thus not the exact match) and the shirt was lavender to start with whilst the pants were khaki
So, I've had bad luck with some hair dyes in the past (like, ending up at Urgent Care / in the ER bad luck), and they recently discontinued my favorite dye. Having gotten sick of being a blonde, and hating my real hair color, I decided to try another dye. But, I was smart (for some value of), and actually did the skin test. This is what happened.

I'm guessing that Garnier 100% Color is on the "not safe for meri" list.

After getting off work, I decided to do a little drive around starting with the CSX Monon Subdivision. Good thing I did because CSX Q642 was rolling into Dyer with a CSX SD70MAC leading a C40-8W

Got the iron and bricks idea from my mother-in-law. Paraffin wax in the little tin on top of the iron, set to low.
Tried natural dyes, but only the onion skin color on the left did well. Didn't do enough research, just winged it with the pickled beet juice and coffee grounds. Resorted to making a batch of blue and green Paas dyes.

I was at Dyer waiting for a late running Q642 to get through town when I heard him call a "clear" at the Dyer diamonds, the crossing of the CN ex EJ&E mains. I started to get set up when a CN work train came rolling through at track speed, running right in front of the northbound CSX freight. Q642 went in the big hole and managed to stop in time as the yellow CN train kept rolling east. So, Q642's conductor had to walk the train to make sure the hazmat cars were all OK. Unfortunately, the train had Route 30 blocked for over half an hour at 600pm, not good. Back on the move, SD70MAC 4827 finally comes into the interlocking.

Graffiti list á sér talsvert langa sögu á Íslandi en það má segja að gróskan hafi verið sem mest um miðjan tíunda áratuginn. Graffað var víðsvegar um borgina en það geta allir verið sammála um það að mekka graffiti í Reykjavík hafi verið í undirgöngunum í Hlíðunum.
Það var mikil gróska á þessum tíma og þetta var eitthvað nýtt. Hip Hop, Hjólabretti og Graffiti en besta við þetta allt að það voru allir vinir!
Hlíðargöngin hafa staðið auð í um tíu ár annaðhvort hvít eða í mesta lagi nokkur tögg. Fyrir um viku síðan var hóað í allar gömlu Graffiti kempurnar og hittust þær í undirgöngunum. Allir voru í massa stuði og tilbúnir í að Graffa á ný og gera þessi göng eins og þau eiga að vera!
Á Menningarnótt var blásið til opnunar í göngunum og mættu þar listamenn og áhugamenn um götulist. Það myndaðist frábær stemning og ljúfir tónar fengu að hljóma um göngin, en það var enginn annar en Frímann Kjerúlf Björnsson sem þeytti skífum.
Nokkrir snillingar eru um þessar mundir að vinna að heimildarmynd um undirgöngin í Hlíðunum, en einn af þeim er Björgvin Sigurðarson, en hann skipulagði einmitt þennan flotta viðburð.
Frábært framtak og meira svona húrra, húrra, húrra!
