This was a little spot on our property that I made my "happy place" in 2004. You had to sort of walk under an archway made by cedars to get inside and there were horses across the fence that would come if you whistled. I "tried" to grow a garden of flowers there and then buried my kitty Phlox on the same spot eight years later. I took this photo just before leaving for a road trip to Virginia and at the same time said goodbye to my old home. When I thought of the theme "Home Life" we were in the process of moving so I thought I'd take a picture of the spot that I would go to sit in the wild flowers with my goat, cry through my growing pains or just to remind myself that the Lord was near to me.

Gila Cliff Dwellings are located about 44 miles north of Silver City, New Mexico. These dwelling date back to the 1270s.
About Red and Rose Valleys
One of the nicest and most most beautiful places to go walking in Cappadocia is in Red and Rose Valley . The two valleys are next to each other and are easily combined. You can see small farms and villages full of people living in traditional houses. You can see the Cavushin village in which people have made several-storey homes. There are several eroded rock formations in the valley as well a some really olde churches carved and painted into the soft rock.
Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument offers a glimpse of the homes and lives of the people of the Mogollon culture who lived in the Gila Wilderness from the 1280s through the early 1300s. The surroundings probably look today very much like they did when the cliff dwellings were inhabited. It is surrounded by the Gila National Forest and lies at the edge of the Gila Wilderness, the nation's first designated wilderness area. This designation means that the wilderness character of the area will not be altered by the intrusion of roads or other evidence of human presence.
May 8, 2023: Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Manitou Springs, Colorado. Here's a second batch of images from the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. These photos are of the three-story Pueblo-style building that contains museums and a gift shop.
These dwellings are from a partially excavated site of the Elden Pueblo indigenous peoples who inhabited this site from probably 1070 to 1275.

Cliff dwellings of the sinagua. Built almost 1000 years ago, they were abandoned about 300 years ago. These were photographed in Montezuma's Castle National Monument in Arizona, one of the first National Monuments established in the US.
I lived in this top floor flat with friends while I was at art school in the late 1980s.
This image is part of a set of dwellings aimed to reconstruct a timeline of houses I have lived in over the course of my life.
As a recollection of sites of intimacy, the project has brought up many questions.
