When I originally posted this photo, I had misidentified it as a blue flag iris (also blue, also native to the eastern United States). I was wrong!

Still intact at the beginning of the fall

One from my last trip up to the lakes before Christmas, it had been snowing on and off so I wanted a go at this image with the snow coming down the slopes of the Mountains to the rear, initially I was a bit miffed as there wssn't as much snow I would have liked, but standing theere looking at the fact thewre was less also allows the lonely fishing hut to stand out far more against the background with the colours on the mountainside being able to come through as well.

The lonely little fishing hut is completely dwarfed by it's surroundings, it must be a great place to get away from it all, I'm no fisherman but if I was I'd be heading here.

Another image from summer vacation :) I liked this shot from Kauai and the Na Pali coastline's cliffs dwarfing the touring catamaran down below. The mast of the catamaran was roughly 80' if I recall, and I could count close to 15 people on the deck, just to provide some scale.

..had the pleasure of seeing this colourful sumac the other day in some friends garden...I found it a hard to shoot, busy subject so isolating a few branches seemed the way to go :) By darkening the shaded background to black, it seems to set off these fiery leaves! Other: The genus name, âOenotheraâ, means âwine-scentedâ and refers to the use of the roots in winemaking. The species name, âcaespitosaâ, means âlow growingâ and refers to the stature of the plant flowers. Source: www.nps.gov/arch/learn/nature/onagraceae_oenothera_caespi...

This ground-hugging, fine-textured relative of the more common chenille plant grows no more than several inches tall. Dwarf Chenille Plant gets its common name from the fuzzy plumes of tiny red flowers that trail above a thick mound of small, serrated leaves. Given enough light, this plant blooms nearly year-round.

Even the mighty oak adapts along the windswept dunes of Thy National Park in Denmark. Here it grows, on sandy ground, not as towering trees, but as low, bush‑like forms, known as dwarf oak.

Their small stature is shaped by salt air, strong winds and poor soils, yet their resilience adds a quiet beauty to the coastal landscape.

A reminder that strength can also be found in staying close to the earth...

Paintedleaf is native to North and South America. It is also called Wild Poinsettia, because it is closely related to the common Poinsettia. Similar to that plant Painted Leaf typically produces red to orange-red tipped leaves adjacent to its green flowers. Each cyathium contains several male flowers (yellow) and a single female flower. The female flower consists of a 3-lobed ovary with 3 divided styles

It is deer and rabbit resistant.

Built for MELO - a scene from The Fellowship of the Ring

Steam reaches for the sky on a bitterly cold 3rd February 1979 as coke is quenched at the Grube Anna and coking plant at Alsdorf, near Aachen, just as Henschel 0-8-0 tank 'Anna N.1' (Works No.25167 built in 1949) shuffles through the exchange sidings, dwarfed by the emitting steam.

The Common dwarf mongoose is Africa's smallest carnivore. It lives mostly on abandoned termite mounds, but in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania, it can also be seen on the granite outcrops called kopjes (pronouced 'kopies'). This cute little mongoose was caught as it paused briefly while scampering around on a kopje.

At home. I found this beauty in the greenhouse.

A few days ago, Lani Elliot posted a beautiful image of Convolvulus, commonly known as Morning Glory. In appreciation of her lovely work, I decided to share this image of a jeweled dwarf convolvulus photographed after a night of heavy fog. You can see her image by clicking the link below.

Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.
