The Oriental dwarf kingfisher (Ceyx erithaca), also known as the black-backed kingfisher or three-toed kingfisher, is a species of bird in the family Alcedinidae.
This is a small, red and yellow kingfisher, averaging 13 cm (5.1 in) in length, yellow underparts with glowing bluish-black upperparts. A widespread resident of lowland forest, it is endemic across much of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
The preferred habitat is small streams in densely shaded forests. In the Konkan region of southwest India, it begins to breed with the onset of the southwest monsoon in June. The nest is a horizontal tunnel up to a metre in length. The clutch of four or five eggs hatches in 17 days with both the male and female incubating. The birds fledge after 20 days and a second brood may be raised if the first fails. The young are fed with geckos, skinks, crabs, snails, frogs, crickets, and dragonflies. The rufous-backed kingfisher is sometimes considered a subspecies.
Common name: Dwarf Powder Puff, Miniature powderpuff
Botanical name: Calliandra tergemina var. emarginata (List of synonyms)
- [ (kal-ee-AN-druh) from the Greek kallos (beautiful) and andra (stamen); (e-mar-jin-NAY-tuh) with a notched margin ]
Family: Mimosaceae (touch-me-not family) or Fabaceae s. l. (pea, or bean family)
- [ (fab-AY-see-ay) the Faba (broad bean) family, (formerly Leguminosae, the legume family) ]
Origin: Southern Mexico, Panama, Bolivia
This species has dwarf growth habit, and blooms year round. The plant is always covered with flowers. The name Calliandra comes from the Greek for 'beautiful stamens', and several of the approximately 150 shrubs and small trees belonging to this genus are grown for their dense heads of pink or white silky stamens that appear on short stalks along the upper sides of the branches.
Propagation is easier from seeds, cuttings are also possible. The globular flowerheads can be up to 2.5 inches in diameter (6 cm).
This plant can be trained either in a small standard tree or a nice round bush.

A B&O dwarf (Type VA) stands guard at Wapakoneta, Ohio. Even though CSX is slowly replacing these signals, this dwarf signal has recently received a fresh coat of paint.

Do you need to protect your land against some annoying dragon? Your neighbor’s castle is still not conquered? Do you need some serious artillery on the battlefield?
Call a band of dwarfs engineers! They and their ballista will figure out any issue which you have! :)
Few words regarding construction. There are 4 parts which were not rendered - I have an issue with render chains and ropes - don’t know why. I think this is an issue with the Studio app, but let’s go into details.
When you add a rubber band and one chain to that construction, it should shoot :) I implemented a ratchet mechanism to stretch the string with a small trigger. Also the ballista could be moved up, down, left and right. There are two separate mechanisms for that. Up and down on the bottom, very close to one of the wheels. I used a slizer’s body to make it stable. A little bit higher one of the dwarfs is the controlling mechanism of turning right and left. On the top of construction there are two other dwarfs. One of them is responsible for string stretching and the second one is a shooter.
That guy with the axe in his hand is responsible for loading new spears.
Whole construction is moving, could shooting and turn in all directories - some kind of dwarf’s tank :D
I know that usually dwarfs have shorter Lego legs, but from my perspective with that regular it looks better ;)
We hiked a ride with Beffen across the by fjord in Bergen. This is were it let us off on the Nordnes side.
This is my entry for the “dwarf tales” category.

My chainmail dwarf. I never actually played a dwarf army in the game. This guy saw table time as a Paladin in a short lived D and D campaign. I think it lasted all of two adventures.
I was really proud of how this model turned out at the time. The beard, his mouth, the hammer pretty much everything.
This was one of the last things I painted, until I started painting some Warmachine and Hordes stuff recently.
I stopped by the Amtrak depot in Beaumont, Texas while I was working there for a few days, and noticed a green signal on the dwarf. A few minutes later a BNSF Oil Train appeared. This is at CP LF980.
The Common Dwarf Mongoose is a typical mongoose: it has a large pointed head, small ears, a long tail, short limbs, and long claws. The species can be distinguished from other mongooses by its size. It is much smaller than most other species (18 to 28 cm, 210 to 350 grams); in fact, it is Africa's smallest Carnivore. The soft fur is very variable in color, ranging from yellowish red to very dark brown.

The operations shack is dwarfed by the size of these two massive mining trucks.
• The trucks that haul the ore are larger than many houses and weigh more than a jumbo jet. They stand over 23 feet tall and can carry from 255 to 360 tons of rock.
• The truck driver rides about 18 feet above the ground -- nearly two stories high.
• Each tire on these big trucks costs from $18,000 to $26,000 and lasts just 9 months.
Gray Pine Dwarf Mistletoe, Arceuthobium occidentale. We discovered that the seeds shoot out of the fruit with a zing, and have a viscous coating to help them stick to Gray Pine branches.

They live in the grass and loose soil around and under rocks in mountainous regions. The tails of some are much bluer than this. They shed their tails if picked up by them or if they are mishandled
Wrocław’s dwarfs is the name given to the charming small figurines that first appeared in the streets of Wrocław in 2001. Since then, their numbers have been continually growing, and today they are undoubtedly one of the greatest tourist attractions of the city. Those who would like to combine sight-seeing in Wroclaw with tracking the dwarfs, are offered special brochures and guided tours.
The number of dwarfs in the city has not stayed constant, with new ones appearing in the streets each year, whilst others are stolen or vandalized despite being protected by sophisticated security devices.
had an urge to paint something in purple and gold. cloak is base of liche purple shaded down with badab black and blended up with fortress grey. gold is dwarf bronze washed with ogryn flesh and layered with shining and burmished gold with mithril silver on the extremes. beard is khemri brown washed with devlen mud, then blended up to bleched bone, washed with ogryn flesh and the bleached bone reapplied. one of my favourites i've painted so far.
